Career / Re: *****blue Ocean Strategy***** by Jonohjon: 12:38pm On Mar 30, 2009
It's good to know someone here knows about the Blue Ocean strategy phenomenon. First heard about the concept in the last quarter of last year, and made it one of my primary objectives for this year to go to (Fontainbleu) INSEAD for training on this new strategy concept. At the moment am putting in a strong motivation for my employers to pick up the bill, however, come what may I intend to add this to my knowledge base before the end of the year. It will really be great if truly you or anyone for that matter can bring in the facilitators as it can help my present course of action. Please intimate me on your plans as regards, (i) Facilitators (ii) When (iii) Possible cost ,

Might not be able to wait for next year, so hurry man and goodluck!

Govt. should refund sch fees of unemployed graduate.

That is an absurd remark.
For you to be a graduate and think like this, its easy to see why some are jobless for upward of 10 yrs.
Education / Re: Look Who Is Going To School In Nigeria: The Statistics May Surprise You by Jonohjon: 5:14pm On Mar 02, 2009
Having read thru all the numerous responses to this thread, I want to say here that though as informative as it is , it can only be more detrimental to our social growth and development as a nation.
When are we as Nigerians going to start looking at one another first as fellow humans and secondly as a Nigerian?. And to the poster rather put in so much energy and research into feeding us with what I consider unproductive statistical information, that same effort and energy can be channelled into providing us with statistics on Nigerian student population, field of study and its corresponding growth rate
Am sure these figures will give more insight into nation building and how to go about such.

Finecat:

See as all these bank workers dey foam for mouth. You are complaining about the poster exposing PHB, you guys are funny. very soon, all the banks will be exposed. Most banks are looking for ways to drastically reduce their staff salary. I even heard some will go as low as the civil service pay structure. In another month of two, most of the bank workers go foam for mouth some more.

In my view I don't think banks reducing or slashing salaries has anything to do with if they are healthy or not. Haba even HBOS,Lehman bros. Toyota, GM just to mention a few were all affected by this present global economic crisis, does it now mean that the likes of Toyota that has decided to reduce staff strenght were unhealthy.
Pls lets show an understanding of  issues as they are and not just turn ourselves into ignorant comedians'.

Peeps, men its been kinda hectic had to come on here to chill the nerves, spent over 7hours yesterday in two different meetings and by the time I came out , urs truly was like a phantom, hungry, tired and fustrated as mgt practically put a knife to my neck. Its not there fault, its because I don't have liver like Jericho, to go run my own show. Anyhow the gist is that I had worked with my team for about two weeks to produce a report I felt my fetch a big part on the back only for for some over sabi fellow to claim the report area of focus was too futuristic (as if I'm a star trek crew) to cut long story short they want to me re-submit that same report 6 months down the line and reproduce another one that can be operational at a go!
God help me and this telephone business. angry

@TubbyTubby

I must say that i disagree with your "mission". I am of the opinion that its unprofessional and childish. Not to mention that it will prob not make a difference, i mean i doubt any job seeker will turn down a BankPHB post, but each to their own. If you really wanna make a difference I believe there are other better ways you can do so. However, and this is if all you have posted is true, you should take care of the details you post. I do not think anyone will be too bothered but if someone also decided to have a personal vendetta against you, I do not think it will be too hard to figure out who you are.

@Finecat

Companies and "watchdogs" in foreign countries do place appropriate channels for people to "whistle blow", but i can guarantee you that doing so like this is frowned upon. Take the following link for example:

http://www.ceridian.co.uk/hr/content/1,4099,459-289,00.html

Thanks my brother. Tubbytubby hope u learn b4 ur imaginary KPMG fire u.

@jon-oh-betrayer
u fool,cuz thats the only way i can approach, don't u know the kind of country we are in,i didnt put the post against anyone or did i tell you i needed to file a law suit for anything
am a smart guy,i have lost anything in the whole game,i am just a back watcher who sees everything go on and i am advicing people looking for jobs to be careful so why d hell are you telling me to go to court and besided even those that were cheated like mary B,which court will she go to and win against the owner of his bank
please use ur sense, people like you definately can't even have a home talk more less of a job,am sure you will loose the trash you call work very soon
Am doing well at my new job
forward the mail to your friends and help them and stop talking trash on here

Na wah o who said you should go to court? You can't even read and understand? How you got into KPMG (if thats true) worries my imagination. I should go ahead and spread your unfounded and baseless allegation to peeps, how smart. grin
KPMG is in serious trouble!!!

Meanwhile you are good company for a work free day , keep it coming.
Career / Re: Enormous Salaries Of BankPHB by Jonohjon: 10:27am On Feb 05, 2009
@Finecat, Dis guy

I think it will be very childish and uncivilised of me to use the kind of word (idiot) that you (finecat) has used on this forum, well I guess thats just a pointer of how civil and intelligent you are.

Developed world, hmmmmm!!!! have u been there? and if yes have you worked there?. With all sense of humility I would love to inform you that I spent the last 3 years of my professional working career working for a foremost Investment firm in U.K. Anyhow all i can say right now is if Tubbytubby has a case against his employers as a professional he should inform the right authority about it and mind you this can be done annonymously. The last time i checked Nairaland is not the banks'regulatory body.

Well that apart i also sensed in you (Finecat) a man that has so much time on his hands, and has so much animosity against the Nigerian bank, why? I do not know. Now let me help, you out if you've been wrongly(?) dismissed by any and you feel done by I can understand. If you are interested let me give you my no. and addy and for you to forward ur C.V and if by Mid May or so you are not gainfully employed then you are free to come back here and call me names.

Thank u

Hope you have a degree at least
Career / Re: Enormous Salaries Of BankPHB by Jonohjon: 3:09pm On Feb 04, 2009
Having spent the first 8 years of my career in the banking sector, I do agree that some of the banks result posted are at times exaggerated, that is not to say that they are ficticious (I hope the wise and intellects amongst us understand that). No one but a fool will undermine the role these same banks have played in the socio-economic development of this nation of ours (and just before u mention that they don't support the real sector of the economy) if nothing at all they constantly mop up about a fifth of our half baked graduate on a yearly basis. Yeah their business models might not be the best in terms ethical and professional banking, but would we have preferred them do it the western way and employ only those graduates whom are truly fit to work in these organisation. There is no gain saying that less than 10% of Nigerian graduates on a yearly basis will fit into this profile.

As for tubbytubby I really don't know what your mission is , but I do know for certain that the likes of you don't deserve to be employed by anyone let alone an organisation. If at all anything you said is considered true , then you dont have the moral right to spill that out on a public forum afterall part of your employment condition(s) forbade you from disclosing any information you had priviledged access to to anyone or body. Tubbytubby you are an epitome of the average Nigerian graduate , unprofessional and morally bankrupt the your likes are the ones messing up the banking industry.

They are into CDMA and their strategy is to try and cover first all those places that we and and our like ave considered not profitable for now. And the big one is they are being funded by World bank. Still digging in men will give u more load down as it emerges.
Ol boy ur placement memorandum fill me in is it on private placement, make we see am now abi u think say we sef no get millions to invest grin grin grin ( hope my employers wont see this if not I go explain myself).

@Contactuzo

How far with ur presentation prep. The trick is to first of all know as much as there is to know about what u are presentation , with that knowledge comes this feeling of confidence and bravado. Secondly, be calm nobody will eat u. Next rehearse it to urself (if u cant find someone to rehearse to ) and arrange ur slide sequentially for smooth carriage, maintain good eye contact,and don’t try and be too fast but keep to time while u carry ur audience along.
U be sharp bobo , ‘m sure u will get it rite. cool

@Topic
Am ashamed of myself , embarassed can u imagine got to work this morning and was expectant. Then alas the girlie walked in and even before I responded her ‘Morning sir’ I said how far? And she was kind of confused……, at that point I had to say it …didn’t u come wt ‘pufpuf’ this morning and the whole office u just went haba oga atleast greet the girl first now. Anyhow good enough she brought enough and even gave me the lion’s share. Pufpuf and tea, kai ‘m leaving the life. So simple yet absolutely luxurious.
Wish u guyz and galz a wonderful wkend.
Career / Re: Welcome To My Office by Jonohjon: 9:43am On Jan 29, 2009
@Cristalz

Hey ya how unkind for someone to have drank your juice, pele, get your mind of it cos it's too early in the day to vex.
Presentation went well, of course as expected mgt had one or two issues with the business model I used, they would ave preferred something that had ability to generate more revenue than my forecast . Though I knew it was going to come to that, but then i would rather forecast a more obtainable revenue figure than build castle in the air.
@Topic
Discovered we have a new competitor in the market that's planning to start from the rural areas and at ridiculously low tariff. Now thats has turned my headache, as mgt want me to adjust a bus. plan for the year to accommodate the presence of this over sabi coy.

Had hot 'puffpuff' this morning one correct girl in my office just gifted us all. kai its been long sha, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Preparing for a meeting, and seriously looking forward to Friday

Career / Re: Tony Elumelu Of UBA Graduated With Third Class? by Jonohjon: 11:30am On Jan 23, 2009
Ignorance thats all I can say
.
If not do you think that the Nigerian employer Elumelu inclusive do not know that some people that graduated with a pass degree can perform on the job? Sure they know that. Employers insisting on a particular grade limit use it as an opportunity to screen the number of application / applicant they want to attend to or can u imagine Mobil trying to recruit fresh graduate without a grade limit, do u think they want to waste manpower and resources controlling and organising crowd when it is obvious that they can still get the right candidate even if the list is limited to only 50.

Ignorance I say is a killer. I pray God bless u folks that believe otherwise really well and when you become an employer place an advert for fresh graduate without a grade limit and try and see if u can cope with it.

Bottom line , do whatu can that will guarantee u a minimum of a second class degree period.
Career / Re: Tony Elumelu Of UBA Graduated With Third Class? by Jonohjon: 1:48pm On Jan 22, 2009
I wonder where u guys get ur information from concerning Tony Elumelu.
The guy did not finish with a 3rd Class, and neither did he attend Uniben.

Second class candidate from then Edo state university,in Economics and he also bagged an Msc in Economics from Unilag.
Just think about how many 3rd class candidate do u see that have the courage to go and further in thesame field they've earned a third class? Very few if any.
Career / Telecom Job In Place Of Investment Job. Pls Read by Jonohjon: 4:58pm On Jan 16, 2009
Hi Fellas,

This is my first time on this forum, just want to hear other pple opinion about my present situation.
In all I have about 8 yrs working experience ( all in the finance industry) of which two of those yrs was wt an investment boutique in the ? (western world).

Recently, returned to Nigeria from ? (western world). where I bagged an Msc in finance, and 'm  CFA LV 2 candidate.Whilst, ave been fortunate enough to find a job. (Guess where?) In a Telecom firm, the salary wtout doubt is fantastic, official car and all the managerial extras, yet I dont' feel fulfilled cos my present job disposition is quite different to the Investment banking/fund mgt world I have always known.

Thats the dilemma should I just put my heart to it and close job hunting shop it or still continue shopping for my kind of job (of course while I hold  unto  the present one)?

Only serious minded response(s) pls.
Thank you
