Politics / Re: Rejection Of NGF Results Bad Omen For 2015, Says ACN by koruji(m): 4:16am On May 27, 2013
Read this part to see the sillyness of GEJ & cohorts:
The ACN has called for a probe of the apparently forged document being circulated by the losing governors to show they had harvested the signatures of 18 governors pushing for a consensus candidate just before the elections.

The party said the fact that the signature of a governor, who neither attended the meeting of the PDP chapter of the NGF nor sent a representative, was included in the consensus list is an indication that the signatures were harvested long before the meeting and the day of the election. Of course, it is also clear that the dates on the typed document were cancelled and new dates handwritten.

Animal Farm Reading of the Day:
The day comes when all the animals will gather in the big barn to vote on whether or not the windmill will be built. The farm is divided into two factions at this stage, the “Vote for Snowball and the three-day week” faction, and the “Vote for Napoleon and the full manger” faction. Snowball has convinced his faction that the windmill will lead to increased leisure time for everybody, while Napoleon has convinced his faction that the distraction of the windmill will cause the animals to lose time on the harvest and starve.
The meeting begins. The sheep heckle Snowball as he explains his plans for the windmill, and why it will be good for the farm. Napoleon then rises and gives a very brief and curt address, advising everyone to vote against the windmill. Snowball then speaks again. He talks passionately and eloquently, and creates a vision of a mechanised farm with heat and light, with electrical threshers and ploughs and reapers, where the animals do little or no work, and All the labour is carried out by the electricity generated by the windmill. It is clear that Snowball will win the vote. Just then, Napoleon stands and emits a queer sound, a kind of whimper. At this signal, nine huge dogs, the dogs that Napoleon took away as puppies months before, rush into the barn and charge at Snowball. They chase him from the barn and off the farm. He is never seen again. The other animals, who had left the barn to watch the chase, now return to the barn, where Napoleon addresses them. He tells them that Sunday Meetings are henceforth abolished, and that all decisions in future will be taken solely by the pigs. Any dissent is silenced by growls from the dogs, and the meeting finishes to a fifteen-minute chorus of “Four legs good, two legs bad” from the sheep.

Nobody is denying that he has a Yoruba name - but that is the same as saying he is a human being, it is of no relevance.
His Yoruba name has no connection to his actions.
Unfortunately, that is the connection being established by labeling him a "Nigerian Terrorist".
It was okay when they identified him as a "British of Nigerian Descent" - that would make him a "British Terrorist of Nigerian Descent" at the most. Not a "Nigerian Terrorist" !!! Why don't they claim him too? Or do you hear talk about the "Nigerian Athlete" who won the gold medal, when actual Nigerians win medals for Britain.

Balance seems to elude us in this kind of discussions. Nigerian-Descent doesn't make Nigerian.
Obama is of Kenyan-American descent, but that doesn't make him Kenyan - but pure American.
The difference here is that one imbibed an ideology of togetherness that made him the most powerful leader in the world. The other imbibed an ideology of hate and revenge which turned him into a sick animal-in-human-form committing a crime that his shadow would run from in horror - if it could.

Ricky_Ross: We Nigerians must stop deceiving ourselves. This guy is a Yoruba guy, clear and simple.
Yeah we know he was born, bred and radicalized in UK but why cant we claim him the same way we claim NAS and even the Williams sisters etc? So we dont want to associate him with his Yoruba race simply bc he is evil abi?

Instead of calling on British media to stop labeling him as a Nigerian, maybe we all need reality check. What that goat did was very wrong, and I will still condemn his actions even if he were my blood brother.
Politics / Re: Nigeria: An Unintended Casualty Of The U.S. Shale Revolution by koruji(m): 2:22am On May 27, 2013
Nigeria has no business exporting oil anyway, but for the laziness of our government. A smooth running Nigerian economy will use more than 3+ million barrels per day.

ROSSIKE:

EXACTLY. The article is unduly alarmist. Demand for energy resources is soaring across the developing world, led by the BRICS nations, especially China, India and Brazil. And there is absolutely no sign of demand abating in these regions for the next 50 years at least. The only real effect of the shale oil revolution in the US is that they would interfere less in other nations' affairs, due to the reduced need to protect foreign energy sources. Bringing in a more peaceful world. But Nigeria will find ready markets for her oil and gas in the short to long term.

Please stop jumping around. The statement was that this was an achievement all previous Nigerian rulers could not attain. I simply pointed the falsity of such ignorant talk.

I believe GEJ did not give his talk to show his displeasure over something. Perhaps he got word that the AU was going to endorse another country for the seat, and called their bluff. To which I say well-done to him. However, this does not make this some high level achievement as my post pointed out.

Alxmyr:
Nothing will ever be seen as achievement as long as GEJ is concerned.
If AU had refused to adopt Nigeria for the seat, the likes of you, the APC goons and Sahara Reporter will be flourishing on Nairaland, ranting about how GEJ failed to secure UN seat.
I perfectly understand its no achievement, afterall it was under your "brainless, clueless president". I understand.

Stop, right there.
It doesn't matter what you eat - when we talk about your nationality, it is the one that you actually belong to.
There is no Nigerian Terrorist here - that is not to deny that he is of Nigerian descent, but he is not a "Nigerian Terrorist". That is just the glib talk the media would like you to buy into. He is British - if you must identify his nationality, then he is a British Terrorist.

The real issue is that these days, nationality, name or even religion is beginning to matter less and less. The common element is an ideology of hate and revenge. Admittedly, some religions are more likely to lead a person down this path than others in this age, but there are also many peace-lovers from the same religion.

It is the extremism, stupid (just a saying - not to call you stupid).

Mama Micheal would have made ewedu and amala for Papa mike and family.

In as much as I hate to reduce the suspects to Nationality since that would amount to de-secularizing the crime they committed , it is still important to point that they are Yoruba and Nigerian.

There was a thread opened here on NL denouncing the British press for labeling the suspects as Nigerian Born but I knew immediately what the motive of the OP was and that was;

1. To remove any trace of Yoruba origin from the perpetrators

2. To distract from the fundamental motive behind the crime, which happened to be (as always); ISLAM!

These radical islamists are suddenly aware that they are being watched closely and are taking this inglorious exit out of the cage in which they have cornered themselves: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2013/05/26/french-police-search-for-man-who-stabbed-soldier/2361593/

Pvt. Parts:
http://news.sky.com/story/1095844/sky-sources-man-stabbed-in-woolwich

A man has been stabbed in Woolwich, just days after the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby.

The stabbing took place about 300 metres from the spot where flowers and cards have been left in memory of Drummer Rigby.

Police said in a statement that they were called at 15:53 to reports of a stabbing incident along Wellington Street.

“LAS (London Ambulance Service) and officers are currently on scene and dealing,” the statement said.

No arrests have been made and injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Sky News Reporter James Banks says there appears to be no connection between the stabbing and Drummer Rigby's murder.

Earlier, the soldier's family visited the scene of the attack, as memorial services are held in his honour across the country.

People that talk crap without knowledge of history.
If you know anything about the UN security council you will understand the non-permanent seat is for all comers.
This is no achievement at all. Read below to educate yourself:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Security_Council_election,_2009
Nigeria was expected to run unopposed for a 2010–11 seat, but unexpectedly faced competition from Sierra Leone.[1] Nigeria has already served thrice in the UNSC, while Sierra Leone served only once.[2] Sierra Leone did not contest the seat, however. Instead, Gabon ran for the second seat.

Alxmyr: This kind of explanation don't fly in Nigeria especially on Nairaland.
They are used to bullies who talk without action.
A meeting that secure Nigeria as consensus nominee for UN General Assembly seat, a feat that Obasanjo and others in their much touted relationship with other Africa countries could not achieve.

Excuses, excuses, excuses.
You need to go learn your history.

OBJ gave the NGF the power it currently has because he saw it as a forum to choose the next president and VP.
That my friend, is the story of how Yar'adua and GEJ got to the presidency.

It is really funny and traitorous for GEJ to now want to destroy the same forum.
Particularly, after signing a one-term agreement with the north.
I wish the northerners will do away with all threat of violence (it would only end up consuming them and play into the hands of GEJ)
They should concentrate on a strategy to make sure GEJ loses at the ballot box.
As well as find the best combination of political alliance that will bring quick development to their region.

In reality, I think GEJ knows he "must" fulfil the terms of the one-term letter he signed but he would like to choose the next president and VP, just like OBJ. He has probably promised the VP slot to Akpabio. But he is really fooling himself because just like he and Yar'adua treated OBJ after getting into Aso Rock he may be in for the shocker of his life after 2015.

There is no need for this Nigerians again or the need to hack them the way they hacked the British soldier.

You could have said muslims again, blacks again, etc - but what would you say about the fact that they were formerly christians and think Afghanistan and Iraq are "their" lands? That is how Mutallab was trying to defend the land of muslims in Sudan forgetting that when you actually look at the politics of it, it was a war between Arabs (who claimed to be muslims) and native blacks of Sudan (with large christian and muslim populations) - Mutallab is black and if he were to be born in South Sudan he would be fighting against "muslims". What would you about Americans both pure and of foreign descent that have become the most hardcore al qaeda participants?

What the world is dealing with is the rise of a phenomenon of animals-in-human forms that use whatever cover to perpetrate their evil deeds.

These two are less than human as far as I am concerned. I do not care if their low IQs or hooliganism or lack of parenting, etc. started them on this path. When they became adults they adhered to an ideology of hate, and lost their humanity. Plain silliness.

rhymz: Yoruba votes helped GEJ win which election? Why are Yoruba people so full of themselves and have this overbloated sense of political importance. Don't think because the SW controls the media, you can ram down outright lies down our throats as facts. If anything, the SW region was demystified by GEJ's election victory, he proved to them that with or with a total support from them, so long as he had the backings of the entire eastern region, the SW can either tag along or stay in opposition raanting while he, Jonathan wins that election. The SW showed its political strength and influence by putting in a total of 2.8 million votes, Lagos accounting for about 45% of the votes. Knowing how the population of Lagos is constituted it will be folly to attribute JEG's heavy victory there to the Yoruba people. Now facing the core Yoruba states, by calculations, their votes number was inconsequential to influence anything even though just like every other states the Presidency needed at least 25% votes from every state.
You guyz need to stop arrogating to yourself some fictitious importance in winning the elections for GEJ, any subregion should make noise about giving him the victory or putting him there, it is the SE, and they have continued to give him that same support regardless without using it as an object to arm twist or manipulate the presidency. The SW did the least in bringing JEG to Aso rock, that is the fact that a million propaganda can not change.

You don't think GEJ is vindictive even as he went after Amaechi's jet and raised Akpabio to counter him. Soft landing for Amaechi? GEJ needs to find soft landing for himself !!!

pro01: Ameachi is now like an emperor without robes, living in fools paradise, with his head stuck in the clouds. It is never to late to stop being foolish. If he has any sense or shame left, he would resign his discredited NGF chairmanship immediately and retire quietly to Rivers State. I don't think Jonathan is the vindictive type (unfortunately!), so I reckon he might graciously grant Amaechi a soft landing if he demonstrates genuine penitence.
Politics / Re: Rivers State PDP Congratulate Jang...says Amaechi Didnt Win NGF Chairmanship by koruji(m): 2:51pm On May 26, 2013
You got it wrong. The election was perfect. What was wrong is forcing governors ro reveal how they "must" vote beforehand. This is what GEJ did to win the PDP primaries in 2011, but nobody is scared of him anymore.

helpee: the point is this: some govenors supposedly voted for amaechi but they are not man enough to defend their vote but rather chose to queue up behind jang. What does that tell u? The election is not free and fair. Any vote that cant be defended is not worth casting in the first place so we can say that the govermors didnt vote freely cos amaechi decided to intimidate them by presiding ova his own election

Governors forum’s delegation visits Chime in London.

When the going was good they went looking for another missing governor together. Introduce a little largesse from GEJ into Akpabio's pocket, and the two "jet" governors (Amaechi and Akpabio) become sworn enemies.

Okay, people. 3 governors that signed the "Akpabio" resolution for Jang voted against him.

I think the following three voted against Jang:
1. Jonah Jang (Plateau - PDP Party
2. Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo - Labour Party)Ibrahim Shema (Katsina - PDP Party)
3. Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe - ANPP Party now APC)

Here is my logic:
Jonah Jang: The man was said to have rejected being picked to replace the withdrawing two northern governors because of his age. He was forced to pick the form for the election only 1 hour before it happened. I think he wanted no part of GEJ's war with the NGF and decided to torpedo his own election.

[s]Olusegun Mimiko: Was put in exactly the same position as Jonah Jang, and followed the same path. I believe these two probably had a conversation where they decided to be no part of the NGF wars.[/s] Ibrahim Shema: Probably felt that the only reason both were asked to withdraw was to prevent him from winning - this will agree with brixton's suggestion above. Notice how he is the only one to not include his state in the document below (he probably provided only what was necessary because he could care less).

Ibrahim Geidam: This governor just found out that GEJ deceived them when he declared the state of emergency by pretending that they will continue to fulfill their "constitutional duties" - only to find out that all they will be able to do is collect their salary. He is also part of the ANPP/APC alliance.

All in all, since GEJ refused to acknowledge signing a one-term agreement with the northern politicians the signatures in the letter below are also null and void. They did him a big favor by not making all northern governors vote against Jonah Jang. It is a warning shot for 2015.

If you do not see my logic, notice that the person behind the withdrawal of the two northern governors and drafting of Jang was Aliyu - the man who first revealed to us and promised to publish the agreement GEJ signed promising to go for only one term.

Okay let's hear more suggestions !!!

Osun state has already been doing this for her school kids since Aregbesola started implementing his revamped education policy. It is one of the highlights of his many achievements in Osun.

gratiaeo: A report by the United Nations has indicated that the provision of meals for school children was still lacking in many developing countries, including Nigeria. The State of School Feeding Worldwide report by World Food Programme (WFP) was made public at the UN Headquarters on Friday.

The report stressed the importance of providing meals for school children, particularly in times of crises.

The UN Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the report provides global analysis of school feeding programmes in developed and developing nations.

According to WFP, about 368 million children, about one in five, get a meal at school every day in 169 developing and developed countries. In Nigeria, according to the report, fewer than 500,000 children are being fed in schools. However, countries such as Ghana, Zambia, Lesotho, Egypt, Cape Verde, Morocco, Sudan, Ivory Coast have a better coverage of their children. Lesotho and Cape verde feed their school kids, 100 per cent, the report indicated.cameroon and Nigeria perform very poorly, with Nigeria the worst.

It explained that despite the global nature of school feeding, the coverage of these programmes was lowest where they are most needed. For more on the WFP report, please click this http://documents.wfp.org/stellent/groups/public/documents/communications/wfp257482.pdf

“In low-income countries, only 18 per cent receive daily meals at school, compared to nearly 49 per cent of children in middle-income countries. Global investment in these programmes is about $75 billion, with most coming from government budgets.

“While these may seem like a large investment, the benefits are even greater as the report states that for every $1 spent by government and donors, at least three dollars are gained in economic returns,'' it said.

It stressed in the past five years, at least 38 countries have scaled up their school feeding programmes in response to a crisis, whether related to food prices, conflict, natural disaster or financial volatility.

Animal farm show - Nigeria series.

Today's animal farm reading:
Friend of the fatherless! Fountain of happiness! Lord of the swill bucket!  Oh, how my soul is on Fire when I gaze at thy Calm and commanding eye, Like the sun in the sky, Comrade, Napoleon! Thou art the giver of All that thy creatures love, Full belly twice a day, Clean straw to roll upon; Every beast great or small Sleeps in peace in his stall, Thou watchest over all, Comrade Napoleon! Had I a sucking-pig, Ere he had grown as big Even as a pint bottle or as a rolling-pin, He should have learned to be Faithful and true to thee, Yes, his first squeak should be Comrade, Napoleon! Pg. 62

By this time in the novel, Napoleon has the complete support of the animals. They speak about him positively and genuinely agree with him. This is the result of all of Squealer's speech and propaganda. Now, Napoleon has the allegiance of almost all the animals and Squealer no longer has to make speeches about the smaller violations because not only do the animals not question Napoleon, they also feel that he is correct. Squealer's propaganda strategy has worked well. Napoleon is treated almost like a king and is referred to in a formal way. He also had many titles like "Father of all animals, Terror of Mankind, Protector of the Sheep-fold, Ducklings' Friend," and many others. The animals would credit Napoleon with causing the drinking water to taste good, causing the hens to lay many eggs, and more. Minimus wrote a poem entitled Comrade Napoleon which basically restates all of this.

You know the answer to that.
He is all up in arms whenever there is politics involved, and slow to react to the people's needs.

There are rules of governance that are sacrosanct: security, security, security. You cannot trade insecurity of the life of citizens for efforts on power, it doesn't work that way. That is what makes you look weak.

You cannot openly subvert processes and institutions that assert their rights because you feel threatened politically. You cannot openly cuddle former militants, assigning them large national resources and responsibilities - such as patrolling the coast.
