'Akata' is the Nigerian/West African word for nigger/animal used to describe African Americans right? All I can do is shake my head |

Serendipity: That's true. I meant for those in the U.S. but all are welcome to post. The problem is I didn't really have any specific questions lol, just wanted to see if they liked the work they did/how was law school, stuff like that! |

Serendipity: I'm afraid, what do you mean by LSAT It stands for Law School Admissions Test. You have to take it to be accepted at any accredited law school in US; Canada as well I think. |

ojdollars: @Nigerians.... It's funny how some people can just comment on this post and start crucifying this Nigerian Easterner. I mean, not just a Nigerian... But A Nigerian Medical Doctor in the US... This story is far from Gold digging... This Black Americans in America seems to think that they are very smart, especially when they assume they are pretty. A Medical Doctor, giving you is all, that guy is over $100,000usd = #15 Million Naira richer annually. He could have just pay for sex from every and any corner in America, sex na like hand shake for this place. No cultural value, a nation where women with another man's pregnancy goes out there to lay with another man with it. If you ask me, the Gold digger here is this woman... For Christ sake, this guy already got his command, his swag before he met this Akata trouble trouble lady. He has been dating her years before that marriage certificate was issued. Why didn't she give a green light for Marriage if she is not among one of those ladies whose duty is to reap where they have not sown? An Igbo man showering you with gifts, taking care of you, paying bills for you. In fact he met you in the American system and took you out, made a positive impact in you and you dare have the guts to come to a Nigerian forum to castigate yet another one Nigerian again. I live in America, I'm African American, and I'm a woman. Do tell me how all of us 'are'? I'm so tired of the bullshit and being categorised as if we are all autonomous. You don't know every African American woman in the U.S. just because you may have had bad experiences with some black women (or men) don't project that onto everyone. You don't know this lady, so to assume that she is the gold digger simply because she is a black woman is crazy. I come from a good family, I have my own money, I have my education. Lol and damn sure don't need to run to a Nigerian, or any man, for any type of money whatsoever lol. When I met my ex, he was working in retail and was just pursuing his LVN, I was in college working on a bachelors. He was broke as hell, but that didn't matter because I thought I was in 'love' with him. My point is dont generalize what you think to be true on all of us. We might surprise you 1 Like |

dayokanu: Ahhh, now I do, I can't believe I chose gangstaboo though haha ! Now there is the problem of trying to remember my password, but I guess I can always try to reset it. Erm well, I've been kind of taking of break because of the holidays and being tired from finals, it's only been like a week since I've graduated, even though it seems so far away. I'm working on the applications now and just have to write my personal statement, and get my recommendations in; I take the LSAT in Feb though, so wish me luck! I will be hitting the books hard again, starting tomorrow, thanks for asking! |

dayokanu: DAYO! Haha, because it's me silly I couldn't remember my old username and password, so I made a new one. We couldn't either, I'm just glad there was snow, I honestly didn't think it would stick though, the weather surprised me |

I think the same thing happened to me. I dated an Igbo guy who was 10 years older than me. I was young (19), in college, and we met at our mutual job. I kept it a secret for many months, until my friends (alot of whom are Nigerian) found out, and many warned me that he was probably after papers/citizenship. My family also found out, and my dad WAS NOT happy, he is super over-protective. Anyway, I claimed I was in love with him, but as time went out, I realized that he was probably married in Nigeria, when I met him he had just moved to US. He always talked about us getting married, even though we had been 'dating' only a few months. He was very very secretive about his family, as he stayed with his sister and her family, and I never met them, that was another sign. There were just many warning signs, that I ignored, until finally his insane jealousy took it over the top. I was going to Uni in another city, and he would go crazy if he thought he heard a male voice in the background, even though I would be in a busy public place, with many voices in the background. Now, that I'm 22, graduated Uni, and more mature I realize what was happening. Anyway, I do sympathize with you because when we believe we're in 'love', we will ignore everything and believe anything. 1 Like |

yemmy_ma: It's probably both. But I knew that with this degree, there is no way I can stop at just a bachelor's and make a good living, so I've already begun applying to grad school's-joint JD/PhD. What is your degree(s) in? |
Education / Any Aspiring Law Students/lawyers? by MainAttraction(f): 7:04am On Dec 25, 2012 |
So, my profile suggests that this is only my second post, but I used to frequent this site often a couple of years back. I decided to check it out again now that I have more free time, but could not remember my username and password, so I made another account. Anyway, I was a student when I used to come on here, but have recently just graduated from Uni on the 16th of this month. I have a B.S. in Psychology, with a minor in Biology. I'm applying to Law Schools and will be taking the LSAT in February. I just wanted to create this thread to see if there are any lawyers on this forum, or aspiring law students like myself. If so, feel free to leave any tips, suggestions, or recommendations. I'm not quite sure the process of becoming a Lawyer in Nigeria, so if anyone went to Law School in Nigeria, please educate me on the process! If you are a Lawyer/Law Student who went or goes to school in the U.S, do you enjoy your work? How was Law School? How did you prepare for the LSAT? Or anything else that you would like to share. Thanks! grin smiley I first posted this in the Career Section, but thought this section would be a better place for this post! |

I just recently (Dec 16) graduated with a B.S in Psychology and Biology, and it really is true that finding a job in this market is tough. I'm not in Nigeria, but where I live, entry level jobs for recent college grads are hard to come by. I really do wish I had paid more attention to the first point listed and searched for degreed jobs earlier. This is a quote I read on a blog and it's so true: "It was a rude awakening. It's like going to college, and then having everything hand fed to you, only to get out into the real world to apply for a job, only to realize that 30 other people have a lot more experience than you. Even though you have all of these great degrees, you still have to go out and prove yourself." 2 Likes |
