1. The Exynos 5420 or 5410 cannot currently run all 8 cores ar once on any device even the note 3.

The video by ARM (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LNPxExkLMo) embedded in the link I provided specifically mentioned the Exynos 5420, which is the SoC in the Note 3. I understand I am being hopeful the stock kernel on the device will have a capable scheduler as well, considering availability of the technology is supposed to be at the end of Q4.

Yes you do. It has been done severally by several OEMs in the past. For example, the processor clock speed can be increased via an update.

The explanation I gave above is clear enough. All that needs to be done is to allow both processors to run concurrently. Meizu has already announced that later this year, they would update their phone which has thesame processor as the note 3 to enable it run all 8 at once. I see no reason why Samsung who make the chip themselves cannot add that.

What you speak of is known as big.LITTLE heterogeneous multiprocessing, and moshoodn is right. You cannot "update" hardware mechanism in the sense that you speak of. Good news however is Samsung implemented this in the Exynos 5420, which is the same processor on the Note 3 so yes, in this new device, the operating system kernel can schedule tasks to all 8 cores at once. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7313/samsung-announces-biglittle-mp-support-in-exynos-5420. Meizu's update will actually require a new phone, as the Note 3 is the first device shipping with this new SoC.

Webmasters / Re: Eyowo: The Payment Gateway You've Been Waiting For! by naijafan(m): 6:42pm On Nov 01, 2011
@mdsocks
This is interesting. A few months back, Eyowo wasn't even live. I'm not contesting your claim, but, on what site did you make this purchase and what email address did you send your complaint to? If you never contacted the recharge card vendor's support personnel, how did you come about the conclusion that the problem was from Eyowo's end?
Webmasters / Re: Eyowo: The Payment Gateway You've Been Waiting For! by naijafan(m): 8:58am On Nov 01, 2011
@chaircover

I'm sorry but your question seems to be lost on me. Ask me concisely so I can answer you.
Webmasters / Re: Eyowo: The Payment Gateway You've Been Waiting For! by naijafan(m): 8:03am On Nov 01, 2011
*databoy:

@ Eyowo, please study www.escrow.com and try adopting their buyer-seller protection policy or pattern. I dont think it will cost you much to implement such system. Or better still, do a merchant/third party guarantor form signing thing that will be verified so when a merchant absconds with money, you know who to hold responsible. My posts = My views, Lolz.

Like I said, we are riding on GTBank's KYC. The bank already has this information.
Webmasters / Re: Eyowo: The Payment Gateway You've Been Waiting For! by naijafan(m): 2:44pm On Oct 31, 2011
Hi everyone,

I am a developer on the project and would be glad to answer the questions raised here so far and also allay certain fears expressed.

1. Physical Address. I am indeed surprised availability of this is being made into an issue of some sort as this information is readily available on the site. We are located at Suite 303, 56, Opebi Road. Ikeja, Lagos. No, we do not currently own any office structure of our own. Our RC number is RC901242.

2. Eyowo operates within existing CBN regulations and the various card providers we have made available for use on our gateway are well aware of our business. With Interswitch, we spent weeks waiting for them to draft a separate agreement for us as ours was not the standard WebPay integration - we don't sell any products directly. This is the same reason we are yet to make VISA available for use. There is still a bit of back and forth in fine-tuning terms and modus operandi with the acquiring body for VISA in Nigeria.

3. At the moment, we are working with GTBank to provide a bank guarantee for our Merchants. We currently require our merchants to have corporate GTBank accounts so settlements is done directly with the bank. This happens twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is a fully audited process. Since our Merchants have corporate GTBank accounts, our verification process relies on the bank's KYC procedures.

3. Our Terms and Agreements are still being drafted by our company lawyers. As soon as this is done and ready, we will put it up. Eyowo is yet to be formally launched. This is more like a field test and the response has been great so far.

4. The 1% transaction fee is charged to the merchant. However, the burden of paying Interswitch's transaction fees and that of other gateways have been passed on to the buyer. What this means is if you pass a transaction of N5,000 to Eyowo, Eyowo in turn passes N5,076.14 to Interswitch (after duly informing the buyer) such that when the 1.5% transaction charge is taken off, exactly N5,000 is returned to Eyowo from which we now take out 1% and remit N4,950 to the Merchant's bank account.

I hope this response clarifies most of the questions raised here. I may have missed a couple. Feel free to ask them.

I was actually wondering if Adobe was confused about what their product icons should be.

The products always get a new icon with each version refresh. Confused much?

@omafones

I've got my eye on the HD2 for some time now but I'd rather purchase from the UK (Amazon, Devicewire, etc) at 499 pounds (approx. N125,000) than buy here at N145,000. I believe you can adjust your prices. Personally, I can make do with a 5-10k increase but not a 20k increase. ;-)

I would say Intel cos they currently have the best desktop processors in the market. Someone google Intel Core i7 wink
AMD is yet to come up with a competing processor to that beast in chip form.

@ngel0v3:

Whether Google Chrome is a new Linux OS or not, the success lies in the branding, not in the technical "techspeak" we programmers understand. The "Google" brand is made!

The google brand is made. and everything they touch turns into gold, right? i guess that's why Orkut is more popular than Facebook, and Jaiku is doing better than Twitter, or Chrome, which has its link in everybody's face on the google homepage and on youtube is fast becoming the most popular browser on earth. DUH!

I now see bad belle and serious beef. You started all these with your fake iNAV now you are beefing him because of his website.
Na. . . she got a device to test, out of excitement, she posted about it. Someone calls another person a bitch. She gets offended, but decides to have fun instead. She's having fun. . . y'all are getting all worked up. And someone still keeps insulting anyone who doesnt share his views on the matter. I'm having fun too. . . Infact, I come to this thread for a dose of laughter before going back to face my work. Good luck to you all.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

Seriously, I'm tired of seeing this back and forths. @labiyemmy, have you filed a case yet? If not, why not just go do that and if you see it fit to carry nairalanders along, cool! If you have filed a case, good for you.

A thread that has already spanned to page 8 even when a copyright claim was made on the first page is totally worthless if all we see is arguments, insults and wat have you. Its time to ACT and STOP TALKING.

Ah!

@labiyemmy
do you know of the case between ConnectU and Facebook? where ConnectU founders claimed Mark used their code in creating early Facebook. Facebook had to settle out of court in millions of dollars. I'm not saying you doctored screenshots or anything. I'm only going to agree wit ElRazur that lawyers could ask certain questions. Its better to be prepared to deal with them than getting caught unawares. wink

Without patents and registered copyrights, your case is probably as good as who has the better lawyer. Kudos to nailing a Government agency tho. That's hard.

Meanwhile, am I entitled to a free SatNav too? Maybe whenever you come to Abuja, you could bless me with one. smiley
Politics / Re: The Best Satellite Navigation System In Nigeria? by naijafan(m): 11:23am On Jun 24, 2009

i dont think el razur claimed you doctored the screenshots. he was just trying to get you prepared for possible arguments that cld be used against you. just in case, picture evidence doesnt hold much water in courts anymore. and seriously, the insults and curses are not cool.

@labiyemmy:

If all i have said is un true - I challenge GAMINECHIC to come out with a better side of the story for all to see.
In all fairness, I believe your case should be with the company and not some freelance designer making a living out of what she knows best. Go after the company in question. Do whatever you wanna. Godspeed!

I'm not exactly after any proof or anything. Just watching this thread and enjoying how it goes. And coming in to post something if it interests me.  wink
If I may ask, I cant remember extending a hand to you and saying "Hi, I'm naijafan." Lol. How did you get to link the face with the alter-ego?
Politics / Re: The Best Satellite Navigation System In Nigeria? by naijafan(m): 12:52pm On Jun 23, 2009
@labiyemmy

i dont think posting the screen grabs was a mistake at all. you fail to realise that at some point, anyone happy with the device would definitely post pictures.

@labiyemmy:

Where is the proof - they paid me for the maps, fine - where is the proof, no proof then this fight continues.

The best system in Nigeria because? How many have you been asked to test before giving a blanket approval and posting on a politics section!
Lol. that my friend, is the same question everyone has been asking you. ElRazur specifically pointed out how weak your argument is. Sure, little can be done in proving copyright matters in a public forum like this, well. . . except you people want to start posting scans of reciepts and shots of source codes or something. You case is with the company, not the poster. If you think you're right to demand proof of any sort from the poster based on her statements, then everyone else has a right to demand proof of some sort from you. And dont get angry with them when they do. wink
Politics / Re: The Best Satellite Navigation System In Nigeria? by naijafan(m): 8:36am On Jun 22, 2009
@labiyemmy

your haste to throw insults around makes me want to believe you actually called gaminechic, a bitch. wateva. but you calling out black folks and pitching them against whites is something else. i'm sure this is a forum and we're all allowed to express ourselves when we read something. that's why the reply button is there. if you dont understand that little truth, then oh well!

as regards the copyright issue, i believe you have the right to sue. . . as long as you can prove that the maps are yours and were not licensed to be loaded onto those devices. i have no problem with that. sure, you and gaminechic can work that out. . but calling her a bitch, i wouldnt talk to you if i was her. watch the way you throw words around next time.
Politics / Re: The Best Satellite Navigation System In Nigeria? by naijafan(m): 10:18pm On Jun 21, 2009
@labiyemmy

dude. . . that's a cheap way of exonorating yourself. immediately you 'called her' bitch, two people flared up, but you acted like you didnt notice and instead tried arguing with them. . . now that you think you're on their good books, you try to patronize them by saying you were referring to the company. while its possible you were 'really' referring to the company, your excuse that gamine didnt specify sex was baseless and probably stupid. first, her name is gaminechic. second, you can as well refer to a guy as a bitch to insult him.

just apologize. cos obviously, she's not responded to this post since you called whoeva a bitch. she will probably think you referred to her.
Programming / Re: Is Java Programming Harder Than Microsoft.net Programming by naijafan(m): 2:06am On May 03, 2009

either you are trying to imply that all FOSS advocates are broke, or you are just being hilarious.

besides. . . you actually said this.
linxon:

.Net is not for free
guess u were in a hurry to blab wink
Programming / Re: Is Java Programming Harder Than Microsoft.net Programming by naijafan(m): 10:25pm On Apr 27, 2009
@linxon
If you were truly a professional software engineer, you should know better than to compare java to .net the way you did. And yes, .NET is also very much free. You shouldn't confuse .NET with Visual studio. its like confusing JDK with Eclipse or Netbeans. If you need a robust IDE and feel VS Express ain't good enough, then there are lots of alternative IDEs to pick from. Judging from the fact that you seem comfortable with Eclipse, you may want to grab a .NET plugin. There are numerous ones out there. wink

Besides, the poster clearly stated his problem. it wasn't just a question of which language is harder.

@poster
kobojunkie basically answered your question in her first post which i'll quote below.
Kobojunkie:

1) Java is free. . . so is .Net.
2) Java is not platform dependent, same applies with .NET. As long as you have .NET installed, you can run .NET code, just in the same way you would need Java installed on the machine you wished to run Java code.
3) Java has a massive community, so does .NET. You can do everything you could with Java in C#, even mobile computing.
4) Java has free IDE, so does .NET
5) C# and Java are not hard to learn. One can learn Java watching only pattern tutorials and it is possible to learn C# in much the same way by watching tutorials online as well
6) Software Engineering is little about the language and more about understanding the core concepts, and developing needed skills. Once you grasp those, you can easily learn the language you need to learn in no time at all for selected projects.

Coding is not necessarily about language but understanding your architecture well enough to apply code effectively. .NET offers you great flexibility when it comes to interoperability as you can combine Python, VB.NET, Ruby, C++, LISP, SmallTalk, and so on, code in your project files. This allows teams to more effectively apply already available resources in projects.

So @Poster, do not get caught up in JAVA /.NET war but focus instead on the core of being a programmer. That is what separates ordinary programmers from real architects out there. Even JavaScript programmers who position themselves well are able to compete and command respect.

Programming / Re: Thank God The Nairaland Initiatives by naijafan(m): 7:07pm On Apr 06, 2009
well, vb is cool, it brought me up in programming.
why not go managed code style using the .NET framework? that would be cool too.

and you might want to take a look at web apps. they make fast money here in Nigeria.

if you need help with your coding, do not hesitate to post them here.
Programming / Re: Post Your C#.net Questions Here by naijafan(m): 6:39pm On Apr 06, 2009
@3T
to make use of your class library in C#, you could either add the dll as a reference in your C# project, or add the VB Class Library project to your current solution, then Add a project reference to the C# project, referencing the VB.NET project. Then set project dependencies to state that the C# project depends on the VB.NET project so the compiler compiles the VB.NET project before it compiles the C# project to avoid exceptions.

Remember to use the import statement to import the class library namespace into your C# project.
