@Bro r231 Enough has been said how do we help this family? its doesnt make sense if we have a 50 pages of discussion here and we 're still yet to act. where do we start from?

You are right Freiburger to get the ball rolling the person that went to visit them today can be used to give them the money if we have any banker in the house he or she should help us open a bank account so that we can start sending money as soon as possible.

Freiburger:

@Bro r231 Enough has been said how do we help this family? its doesnt make sense if we have a 50 pages of discussion here and we 're still yet to act. where do we start from?

well here is the summary

The total we are looking at is :

150,000
100,000
50,000
-----------
300,000

which includes the rent for a yr to a yr and half

and a lil biz for both of them as well

all we need to do now is talk to ify or anybody that can help them secure an apt OR do you guys think we should just hand them the cash?

Now to the Contribution - because everybody is scatter around the globe, i will say we need a rep in UK, USA and Naija

the rep in Naija will be the main contact where all the money from abroad will end up

anybody that wants to contribute from UK and US can just send the money to their rep and the can wire the money down to the main contact in naija.

Any suggestion

Re: Man Raises Family Under Lagos Bridge by ifyalways(f): 8:20am On Nov 15, 2011
@Topic,I think what we need do is to get them a simple, decent room to lay their heads, small scale biz for both, register the woman for ante-natal,stock their kitchen, get her the basic baby things and put the lil' boy in school.
2 rooms, mini flat etc won't be necessary IMO.how wud they maintain the status afterwards, pay the monthly bills that comes with bigger accomodation in Naija(ridiculos Nepa and water bills, security levy bla bla)

I promised to get them some things and would be visiting them again on sunday to deliver those things.
Re: Man Raises Family Under Lagos Bridge by Odunnu: 9:22am On Nov 15, 2011
Yea, a room is all they need. Even if the Lagos govt doesnt have free medical service, I know that the FG has a primary health care centre in all LGA accross the country, they cater for Mother and child below 5yrs. If we can locate one near them and register her, that will be fine.
How about we ask the man what he can do, we may be surprised he has training but if he doesnt, a recharge card business isnt a bad idea and he can start with N50k and build up.
Lets hurry up. [s]before I start xmas shopping and become broke and cashless[/s]

No feedback yet from those property guys huh?

Lets see what we can raise in the next x days/weeks, and then do the best we can with it.

The target is N300k (approx. $2k) minimum.

Next step?

Thanks for your response boss highly appreciated

do you have any rooms available and what is the price like
Re: Man Raises Family Under Lagos Bridge by ifyalways(f): 3:00pm On Nov 15, 2011
@Odunnu,The husband is not an artisan and does not possess any special skill.

I think a mini-provsion store and a self contain one room, school for the little boy is ok.They both can manage the store and one of the advantages of mini provision store is that they are sure of making steady income daily.

100K should be able to stock the shop and that includes a portable fairly used Fridge and small Gen.

120K or less should sort out their accomodation.

60K for shop rent(might be less) for a year.

20K for the boy academics.1 full session sch. fees(3 terms),school books etc.

10K for stocking their kitchen.

^I think its fair enough undecided

So sorry about the plight of these people.

Funny enough I lived for many years in that area, Okota, and I drove through Cele almost on daily basis. Wish I am in Naija now.

I am in support of helping them, get a room accommodation, and support them with a bizness that can sustain them.

But I think we should ask them what kinda simple trade/biz they can or will like to do, rather than assuming one for them.

You can count me in for whatever we finally decide.

When Ify visits them on Sunday, she should ask them what kinda job they can do.

In the meantime, we can start putting funds together, We need someone trustworthy resident in Lagos to keep the funds together. I dunno if ify will volunteer

We also need someone who can find an accommodation for them, we might post a thread in property section
Re: Man Raises Family Under Lagos Bridge by r231(m): 4:36pm On Nov 15, 2011
^^^^^Thanx bro. . . . I know that i can count on you

I spoke to ify today and she has agreed to be our main contact in naija for these project.

Obviously she has gone to visit them and number one priority is accommodation to start with and she gave a list of what is needed as well.

So we just need to arrange the funds and get it down to her ASAP as she has a limited time of stay in Lagos.

For the accommodation I have contacted couple of people on property section including Lawyer and still waiting on reply.

The only one that replied is in mowe area but I don't really think its a problem

Hopefully we will get these sorted soon

Thanks for posting the pictures, Freiburger. And thanks for visiting the family, ifyalways - that was nice of you to go out of your way to do that. So far, Freiburger, Talina, ifyalways, OAMJ, tpia, r231 and I would like to help? Not sure if I'm missing anyone. Anyone else? Please free free to join us in this. The more hands we get, the better, so don't be shy to input, even with whatever you have. A little will always go a long way. I'm off to work now and won't be online again till early tomorrow morning. But need to read the thread more thoroughly. Talina and I are the only ones in the same country here, so maybe she and I can talk about how we will get our contributions to ify. Let's try to help this family, guys. I've some questions, just don't have the time to write right now.

Guys, abeg lets do something fast to help this people, what is the account number, where we can send the money to?? because the faster we do this the better for the family member and let us make sure (whoever is in charge)  the money is not stolen by a dubious person who is posing to want to help the people, because i hardly trust some of these Nigerians.
Re: Man Raises Family Under Lagos Bridge by Odunnu: 4:46pm On Nov 15, 2011
You guys do not sense the urgency in this.
Biko, Ada Ugo Ify, post an a/c number lets send whatever we have now before e enter voicemail. We'll by the way keep with the relationship of asking and knowing how best they want to be helpd

Presently now i don't have, but i will look out tomorrow, I work in Lagos, i was already in the office when i got your message so there is nothing i can do today, mowe is cool and nice, many people work on the Island and live in Mowe. I know several of them Including myself.

room and parlour in mowe is N4,000 a month x 12 months. N48,000 plus half year N24,000 equal N72,000 (One and Year)

this man will be comfortable with this, because if u rent a house of N300,000 per 2 years for this man, when the rent expire where do you think this man will get another money to pay his house rent, this man need to be empower, if u get him a house of N72,000 per one and half years agency and agreement N20k, Total Package N92k, he can then use the remain balance to buy one Okada and use it for transport in mowe and still get a shop and set up his wife to be selling okira clothes and shoes, people will buy it and they will make a living send their Son to school and life goes on.
