Travel / Trump Cancels Permanent Residency For Foreigners Who Have Used Welfare Before by paranoiapill: 5:00pm On Sep 04, 2018
Illegal and legal immigrants are unenrolling from receiving welfare benefits following reports that President Trump’s administration will soon bar foreign nationals from permanently resettling in the United States if they are documented as being a burden on American taxpayers.

For months, Breitbart News has reported how the Trump administration is readying a plan — known as the “public charge” law — to reduce the burden of current mass legal immigration levels from primarily poor countries from which the U.S. imports more than 1.5 million mostly low-skilled foreign nationals every year.

As part of the plan, legal immigrants living in the country would be less likely to be able to obtain permanent residency in the country if they have used any forms of welfare in the past, including using Obamacare, food stamps, and public housing.

Countries like Australia have similar rules to prevent mass immigration from poor countries that further burden their poor and working-class citizens.

A new report by Politicoanalyzed data from the federal WIC program that provides pregnant women and their children with welfare benefits. The Politico report notes that welfare agencies “in at least 18 states say they’ve seen drops of up to 20 percent in enrollment.” Agency officials say the reason for the steep drop in welfare enrollment is due to the news that Trump’s administration will soon enforce the public charge law.

Politico reports:

Nearly two-thirds of WIC providers, from 18 different states, reported they have noticed a difference in immigrant WIC access in the wake of the news about potential changes in the public charge rules, according to a March survey by the National WIC Association. Seventeen of the agencies reported that participants had asked to dis-enroll or be deleted from WIC records. [Emphasis added]

An agency in Longview, Texas, reported it’s losing an estimated 75 to 90 participants per month to public charge fears. In Beacon, N.Y., an agency estimated it’s lost 20 percent of its caseload. In St. Louis, Mo., a provider said it’s seen a few dozen drop in the last year. [Emphasis added]

Since Trump took office in January 2017, there have been nearly a million individuals who have dropped from the WIC rolls, going from 7.4 million beneficiaries to now 6.8 million. Not all of these dropped cases can be attributed to immigrants getting off welfare to avoid being chronicled as a “public charge” to Americans and thus potentially denied a green card.

As Breitbart News reported, the majority of the more than 1.5 million foreign nationals entering the country every year use about 57 percent more food stamps than the average native born American household.

Overall, immigrant households consume 33 percent more cash welfare than American citizen households and 44 percent more in Medicaid dollars. This straining of public services by a booming 44 million foreign born population translates to the average immigrant household costing American taxpayers $6,234 in federal welfare.

The most recent poll on Trump’s plan to try to prevent illegal and legal immigrants from entering the U.S. and immediately taking welfare found that a majority of 62 percent of Americans agree with the initiative.

Harvard University economist George Borjas says the country’s decades of importation of more than 1.5 million legal immigrants every year is the world’s “largest anti-poverty program” that comes at the expense of American citizens who are forced to subsidize the cost.

“Since 1965, we have admitted a lot of low-skilled immigrants, and one way to view that policy is that we were running basically the largest anti-poverty program in the world. That is actually not a bad thing at all,” Borjas said in an interview last year. “Except someone is going to have to pay the cost for that.”

What IK is saying is that if you cannot pay your childrens school fees it means you were not ready for such responsibility or simply married over your head. Really women were over exposed to hustling because men slacked. So as far I'm concerned for men to turn around and demand 'hustle contribution' from women just somehow further demeans manhood. Agreed in some cases it can be due to unforseen issues, but even at that the woman should not be compelled to carry the burden, her contribution should be a voluntary choice not a duty.

Ik Osakioduwa who is featured on the cover of Genevieve Magazine’s latest issue, made this comment...

On being a traditional male provider: I used to tell my wife that my vision is way too big to be intimidated by anything she could ever dream of. If she wanted to own a country, that’s alright because I’ll own continents. Her owning a country does not intimidate me because I was brought up to buy continents in order to give her the country she wants.

I was brought up to know that a guy should be responsible for his family. I am very traditional and I believe I should do the business of running the family. This is probably going to offend readers but if the husband and wife have to depend on both their salaries to run the family, then they are living above their means. A woman’s money is welcome to the progress and wellbeing of the family but if she is not allowed to quit her job because her money is part of the school fees and rent, then they are living above their means.

A woman should reserve the right to quit her job to care for her kids because in this day, stay-at-home mums are the biggest heroes out there. My wife earns a lot of money but I pay the bills because that is how I was brought up. Her money is to buy the Louboutin shoes that I may not be able to afford in the midst of paying the bills. She can contribute to the bills but I would never require it of her. Guys should step up and deliver their responsibilities and stop requiring half from the woman.

The difficulties in getting foreign exchange and the steep fall in the value of the naira are seriously affecting the manufacturing sector, with prices of locally made and imported food items heading northward, IFE ADEDAPO writes

The scarcity of foreign currencies in the country, especially the dollar, which has made it difficult for manufacturers of essential food items to import raw materials into the country, is threatening about 40,000 jobs.

Investigations by our correspondent showed that the high cost of importation due to unprecedented fall in the value of the naira has made importation difficult and expensive, thereby resulting in many factories operating far below their installed capacities.

It was also gathered that as a result of the currency crisis, the prices of essential food items were gradually rising as a direct consequence of the high cost of production and the imported substitutes becoming more expensive.

The naira, which has been taking a beating from the fall in global oil prices since mid-2014, tumbled to 391 against the dollar at the parallel market on Friday and has remained at the Central Bank of Nigeria-pegged 199 to $1 at the interbank market.

On January 11, the central bank stopped the sale of foreign currencies to Bureaux de Change operators as part of measures to reduce the pressure on the nation’s foreign reserves.

Since the announcement was made, the value of naira, which was 283 against the dollar at that time, has been depreciating.

Speaking with our correspondent on the effects of the falling currency on food manufacturers, the Executive Secretary, Association of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employers, Mr. Aderemi Adegboyega, lamented that hundreds of jobs out of the 40,000 workforce in the sector had been lost already and that those still in employment were hanging on by the thread.

He said the business was no longer profitable and firms in the sector were shutting down because they could not afford to pay the salaries of workers, while producing very little.

“We need forex to buy raw materials as a lot of our companies are producing below capacity, which is a big problem. As we are not manufacturing, it means that some of our employees are going to lose their jobs. In our industry alone, we have about 40,000 jobs, and if care is not taken, there will be a lot of loss in terms of the jobs,” Adegboyega warned.

While analysing the precarious situation in the manufacturing and trade sectors, the Director-General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Muda Yusuf, said many organisations were becoming insolvent due to accumulated debts owed foreign suppliers.

Yusuf stated, “Many have slowed down their operations because of lack of forex, and many companies are not able to pay their suppliers abroad; for those who took goods on credit, the situation has created a major credibility problem for them. And because of that, some of them have lost their credit lines.

“Many foreign airlines operating in the country cannot remit proceeds to their home countries. For those who are buying and selling; if they get the money to buy, how are they going to sell? It is a very serious situation.”

Meanwhile, both local and imported food items have become expensive due to the scarcity of dollars and the restrictions placed by the CBN on importers of certain food items from assessing foreign exchange from the official source.

Investigations by our correspondent showed that the prices of packaged water, bread, imported brands of vegetable oil, rice, fish as well as ingredients for making confectioneries had been on a steady rise since the restriction of forex sale was announced in June 2015.

Food retailers at the Ipodo Market, Ikeja, Lagos State, told our correspondent that a carton of ‘Titus’ frozen fish, which sold for N9,000 in June last year, had increased by 33 per cent to N12,000 six months after.

One of the traders, Mrs. Folashade Dasaolu, explained that the price of a carton of croaker fish, being imported from Turkey, had increased by 14 per cent from N14,000 three months ago to N16,000 presently.

“We don’t get as much quantity from our suppliers as we would like to because they have limited stock,” she added.

For imported vegetable oil, the owner of Okikiola Ventures in the same market, Mrs. Abiodun Adefolami, said that a 25-litre container of the product imported from Malaysia was now selling for N8,200 instead of the previous N6,200.

The price of a 50kg bag of rice started a steady ascent from N8,700 in August last year to peak at N10,000 in the middle of November.

Statistics obtained from Novus Agro Nigeria Commodity Index showed that the price of the product started declining when the CBN lifted the ban on rice as part of the items restricted from the official forex market.

The CBN on June 23, 2015 officially stopped the sale of dollars to the importers of 41 items, in its quest to reduce the pressure on the naira as well as preserve the country’s external reserves.

The essential food items included on the list are rice, margarine, palm kernel/palm oil/vegetable oil, meat and processed meat products, vegetable and processed vegetable products, poultry products like chicken, eggs, turkey, and tinned fish in sauce.

A bag of sachet water, which sold for N100 in Lagos in January, now sells for N150, with the manufacturers blaming the high cost of packaging materials for the price increase.

It was gathered that the rise in the price of flour from N6,500 to N7,900 for a 50kg bag; imported fat from N4,500 to N5,200; and sugar from N7,000 to N8,600 per 50kg bag, had made bakers in Lagos to increase the price of a loaf of sliced bread to N250 as against N200 previously.

However, the Chairman, Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, Lagos chapter, Jacob Adejorin, said despite the rise in cost of raw materials, the price of the popular ‘Agege’ brand of bread had not changed.

Adegboyega explained that some of the manufacturers had embraced the backward integration policy as directed by the Federal Government, but that it would take some time before the expected impact could be felt.

Citing examples of companies that had started backward integration, he said, “Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc has a farm that is called Suntil, where it is growing sugarcane and it will eventually be producing sugar. UAC Foods has farms somewhere where it is rearing chicken. Chi Foods also has farms where it is producing concentrates, but the fact is that all these are not enough for their production capacities.”

According to him, FrieslandCampina WAMCO has gone into partnership with herdsmen in Plateau and other states to train them on the type of cow that will produce the quality of milk the company requires and is offering them financial support.

Politics / DSS - Jigawa State Has Highest Social Media Political Comments, Cautions Youths by paranoiapill: 11:31am On Sep 01, 2015
The Jigawa State office of the Department of State Security has expressed concern over the disruptive tendencies and threat to peace by political groups on the social media.

This was disclosed by the state DSS director, Mr Yusuf Isiyaku in a speech at a one-day sensitisation seminar organised for social media groups across the state.

The seminar held at Three Stars Hotel, Dutse.

Isiyaku urged parents and guardians to monitor how their children use the social media with a view to guarding against moral decadence.

The DSS director explained that an independent investigation by the Channels Television indicated that the Jigawa State has more followers in the government activities in the federation, “but in our own analysis the followership is not progressive but destructive”.

According to him, report from an independent body revealed that youths in Jigawa State have higher participation in political discussion on social media more than any other state in the country.

The Director added that, according to his department’s assessment, the participation was more destructive than constructive, putting the state in bad light.

“In view of this, we deem it necessary to come up with programmes to re-orient our youth on how to best use social media for their betterment and that of the state and country at large.

“We invited traditional and religious leaders, legal practitioners, security agencies to enlight the representatives of youth group across all 27 local government of the state on proper usage of social media in tandem with religious norms and culture of the society”.

Speaking at the occasion, Emir of Dutse Dr Nuhu Sunusi urged the youths to abide by the usage of decent words and respect to their leaders in any of their discussion or posting on the social media and other platforms.

Politics / CBN orderss BDCs to provide BVN of customers - noose tightens on Dollar movement by paranoiapill: 11:03am On Aug 03, 2015
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed that all transactions consummated by a Bureau De Change must have the Bank Verification Number (BVN) of custom with effect from August 1, 2015.

In a circular to all licensed BDCs, the CBN said the information must be included in their returns to CBN. In the case of corporate customers the BVN of a director or authorized signatory of the entity must be provided.

To ensure a hitch-free implementation of the directive, the CBN said the list of all lincensed BDCs would be provided by the CBN, to the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) to enable the company provide the necessary hardware token that would be used by the BDC in accessing the NIBSS website.

NIBSS has been directed to make a portal available on its website to facilitate access for the confirmation/validation of the BVN number of the BDCs’ customers.

The circular which was signed by Kevin Amugo, director, financial policy and regulation department, CBN, stated that this is to ensure that correct BVN is recorded by the BDC and included in the returns to the CBN. According to the Apex bank, a token transaction fee of N100 would be paid for each access on the portal, while NIBSS will provide the training manual for an “easy to use” operation of the system.

Furthermore, all licensed BDCs are required to provide the BVN of all their director before August 15, 2015 as failure may affect their continued participation in the foreign exchange market.

The CBN noted that any BDC operator who fails to provide the required information in his returns, or provides a wrong BVN would be penalized. First offenders will be required to pay a fine of N1 million while any subsequent violation of the requirement may lead to the revocation of operating license of the BDC.

Dangers of Oral Polio Vaccines

By Dr. Mercola

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/05/08/polio-vaccine-ineffective.aspx

Polio, a contagious disease caused by an intestinal virus, can cause difficulty breathing and paralysis as the virus attacks and kills motor nerve cells that control your muscles. It can also cause death in its most severe form. However, what is not often shared is that in most cases polio is a mild illness, causing flu-like symptoms that disappear in two to 10 days. Often, polio can occur and show no symptoms at all.

Even the Mayo Clinic states: "The vast majority of people who are infected with the polio virus don't become sick and are never aware they've been infected with polio."

Vaccine-Caused Polio on the Rise

Another fact that may surprise you is that the vaccine itself is the source of newer cases of this disease. At the same time that world health officials are declaring a victory on polio in India, they are calling a global meeting in Switzerland on the problem of vaccine-caused polio.
The problem is that while the oral vaccine has reined in wild polio, the wild virus is being replaced by vaccine-derived polio virus (VDPV), which causes acute flaccid paralysis. (Health officials don't call it polio because it isn't "wild."wink The international meeting, organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Japanese Ministry of Health, is scheduled for May 30-June 1, 2012, in Geneva, Switzerland.

Environmental surveillance for VDPV is now being conducted in a number of countries, including Australia, Egypt, Haiti, and Indonesia. In essence, this much-heralded vaccine strategy has replaced one infectious disease with another, more virulent strain... What kind of success is that, really?

While most affluent nations now rely on inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV), many third-world countries still use an oral polio vaccine as it's less expensive and simpler to administer. However, the oral polio vaccine is made from a live polio virus, which carries a risk of causing polio. The virus in the vaccine can also mutate into a deadlier version, igniting new outbreaks.

Genetic analysis has proven that such mutated viruses have caused at least seven separate outbreaks in Nigeria.

Polio outbreaks in Haiti and the Dominican Republic in 2002 were also traced to a strain of oral polio vaccine (OPV) that mutated back to virulence.

According to a 2004 report by Neil Z. Miller of the Global Vaccine Institute, the live polio virus from the vaccine can remain in your throat for one to two weeks, and in your feces for up to two months. So not only is the vaccine recipient at risk, but he or she can potentially spread the disease as long as the virus remains in feces.

Fortunately, in the 1990's parents of vaccine injured children lobbied to get the polio vaccine policy changed, and as a result of their efforts, the U.S. abandoned use of the live virus oral polio vaccine in 1999, in order to prevent individuals in America from being paralyzed by vaccine strain polio.

Polio vaccine debate hits High Court - As hundreds of thousands of children are inoculated against the virus, judges must decide whether the campaign is safe

http://www.timesofisrael.com/polio-vaccine-debate-hits-the-high-court/

A petition filed with the High Court of Justice demands that the government stop its current campaign of vaccinating children against polio, claiming that, among other things, the solution could be a lot more dangerous than the problem itself.

Yaakov Gurman, director of the Izun Hozer organization, which filed the petition, told The Times of Israel that the risks inherent in the few samples of the wild strain polio virus discovered in several places in Israel could be multiplied many times over once a million kids are given the oral polio vaccine (OPV) — essentially a weakened form of polio that, like most inoculations, introduces the virus and lets the body build up a resistance by developing the antibodies needed to battle a full-on invasion of polio.

“One of the reasons they stopped inoculating children with OPV in 2005 was because it caused an outbreak of polio, with dozens contracting the disease each year,” said Gurman. “The current situation is even worse, because the reconstituted OPV uses a somewhat different formula, and has never been used in Western countries.”

It has, however, been used in India and Nigeria, and in both those countries, the rates of non-polio acute flaccid paralysis (NPAFP) climbed. NPAFP is a disease that partially or fully paralyzes children, as polio does (although it is not necessarily connected to polio).

In fact, a study by several prominent Indian physicians shows a correlation between a sharp increase in NPAFP rates among children over the past decade, the period when Indian authorities aggressively attacked polio with OPV. Data published by the World Health Organization identified 8,000 cases of NPAFP in the country in 2003, when inoculations began in earnest, shooting up to more than 60,000 cases identified by 2011.

In its High Court petition, the Izun Hozer group alleges that the use of the oral vaccine is dangerous. Part of the strategy, said New York pediatrician and author Dr. Stuart Ditchek, is to actually spread the disease around in order to “infect” others who have not taken the vaccine.
“Historically, wild polio virus exposures have been put to rest by utilizing the strategy of implementing the live oral polio vaccine,” Ditchek told The Times of Israel. “By using oral polio vaccine, the recipient actually sheds small amounts of live polio virus and passes on the exposure to others by fecal-oral route. Simply put, when you give one child the OPV, three others will likely also receive it as the virus is shed in stool and passed on to others.”

The strategy is tried and true and has successfully tamped outbreaks in many areas, said Ditchek, but Izun Hozer claims in its petition that the program is risky at best and dangerous at worst.

“Whatever the risk there is of a wild strain of polio in the environment, all medical authorities agree that the worst damage could be that several dozen people may get infected, and it is not at all clear that they will suffer from the worst consequences of the disease,” said Gurman. “Now, with the virus in the bodies of a million children, polio will be spread far and wide. What will happen if the disease mutates and gets out into the environment? If the authorities are worried about a plague, that’s the one to worry about.”

Endangering Israelis in this way, he added, violates Israel’s Basic Law on Human Dignity, and laws on the rights of patients, Gurman added.
Gurman said he can only guess at the reasons behind the vaccination program, but Izun Hozer’s Facebook page (Hebrew), where members of the group contribute articles and opinions, has plenty of ideas.

According to posts on the page, there are many unanswered questions about the program, among them the connection between the ministry and the manufacturer of the vaccine being distributed in Israel, GlaxoSmithKline. The state is getting a bargain rate for the vaccines, paying less than half a shekel per child.

“Why are they selling it so cheap? GSK is supposed to be a profit-making company,” one member wrote.

Other posts attribute the reason for the program to “experiments on the Israeli public” or to simple panic on the part of authorities who are trying to put into place a program that will “protect them from media criticism. If a major outbreak occurs, at least they can say they tried.”

“This is the age of the Internet,” said Gurman. “In the past the authorities were able to hide information from us, but now they cannot. We have found dozens of scientific studies that show how dangerous this operation is, and the Israeli people should not have to be subjected to this.”

Gurman stressed that he is not against inoculations in general, and said media attempts to portray him and others who question the medical establishment as irrational and primitive-minded are unfair and intellectually dishonest.

“Wild strain polio is simply dangerous and can easily trigger a much wider outbreak. No rational person could argue the conscientious CDC/WHO advisory.”

Politics / House Of Reps Makes Zero Allocation For SEC In 2013 Budget - Says Oteh MUST Go!! by paranoiapill: 1:54pm On Dec 21, 2012
http://thenationonlineng.net/new/news/zero-allocation-for-sec/

The House of Representative made a zero allocation for the Securities and Exchange Committee (SEC) as it passed Budget 2013 Bill yesterday.

Spokesman of the House Zakari Mohammed said the House took the stance because Director-General of SEC Aruma Oteh has refused to resign as requested by the lawmakers.

Mohammed spoke why the House hurriedly passed the budget.

He said: “We went into the executive session particularly to speak with ourselves on the budget and the issues that came up were concerns about the 2012 budget.

“There were people among us who believed that the 2013 budget should not be passed but at the end of the day, in whose benefit?

“We then decided that. If we must pass it, it must be with a proviso and that is the roll over of the capital component of the 2012 budget till April 2013. We realized that at this period, the issue of budget becomes very critical because you are susceptible to blackmail.

“Even things that are consumables can be held up by the Executive on the excuse that the National Assembly did not do certain things, so the budget cannot be implemented.

“In view of this, we felt that we should speak with ourselves and we resolved that it should be passed, in spite of our misgivings and reservations by the end of the day, let us pass the bulk figure while the details of the sectoral components would be taken head-long as they come”.

He said the House was not ready to indulge in self deceit that 2012 capital projects have performed well, while noting that the Ministries, Department and Agencies(MDAs) will want to return unspent funds to the Treasury by December 31.

“This is the scenario that leads to project failure. This is a country where mutual suspicion has been the order of the day but the assurance we have for Nigerians is that what informed our decision is that we know that there could be a general feeling that this budget might go the ways of the 2012 budget but we are putting a condition and that is the 2012 capital component must roll over.

On the benchmark, he said: “By pegging the benchmark at $79, showed that we have experts in the National Assembly that know what they are doing contrary to the believe of the Executive. When we say it should be $80, we know that it was possible but we had to reach a consensus with the Senate for the present benchmark.”

He said the National Assembly would not appropriate funds for the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the 2013 because the Executive had not met the legislators’ demand for the removal of the Director General, Oteh.

In addition, he assured Nigerians that issues of integrity concerning two members, Farouk Lawan (PDP, Kano) and Herman Hembe (PDP, Benue) had not been swept under the carpet.

While Lawan was involved in an alleged $620,000 bribery scandal with businessman Mr. Femi Otedola, Hembe was accused of corruption by SEC DG, Oteh.

“It was the budget matter that delayed the presentation of the reports. They are ready and they would be dealt with when we resume from the break,” Mohammed said.

Politics / Yakowa’s Wife May Emerge Deputy Governor by paranoiapill: 10:57am On Dec 17, 2012
Strong indications emerged yesterday suggesting that the wife of the late governor of Kaduna State, Mrs Amina Elizabeth Yakowa, could emerge the deputy governor of the state following the death of her husband in a helicopter crash on Saturday.

The plan to tap Amina as the deputy to the newly sworn-in governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, is being championed by northern governors across party divide, top northern politicians and governors from other regions of the country with the aim of sustaining Yekowa’s legacies.

The promoters of the move to install Yakowa’s wife could meet with Vice President Namadi Sambo in about a week’s time.

Members of the group, who refused to be named, told LEADERSHIP last night that they were convinced that Mrs Yakowa was the best candidate for the position.

She was a former deputy director at the Ministry of Defence and only retired after her husband became governor.

The promoters said they were also inspired by the example of the wife of the former Senate President, Mrs Margery Okadigbo, who emerged to take over her husband, Chuba’s slot in the Senate. They also alluded to the recent example of a former Senator from Plateau State, Sen. Gyang Dantong, who was similarly succeeded by his wife, after he was killed by gunmen at a funeral in the state.

Mrs Yakowa was born on May 20, 1953 in Kwoi, Jaba Local Government of Kaduna State.

An educationist, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She taught in many schools in Kaduna State before transferring her service to the Ministry of Defence, Abuja. According to the Kaduna State website, she is now on leave of absence.

A humane, humble and motherly person, Mrs Yakowa is known to be very compassionate, warm and accommodating. She is a patron to many associations, and sits on the board of many non-governmental organisations.

Within the short period of assumption of office as wife of the governor, Mrs Yakowa, in collaboration with the National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) conditional cash transfer project, was able to assist poor families to improve their economic status through presentation of cash to start small businesses. She has also been actively involved in the state immunisation programme as well as the fight against malaria.

Only recently, Mrs Yakowa successfully hosted the First Lady, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, to launch the Kaduna State chapter of Women for Change Initiative (W4CI), making the state the third to launch the programme.

Treating Christmas with Respect
by Abdul Malik Mujahid

Christmas is an annual Christian religious holiday commemorating the birth of Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him. For many Muslims who even do not celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, it becomes an issue of what stand they should take.

There have been a number of legitimate criticisms of the holiday from Muslims and non-Muslims based on theological and cultural considerations. However, this cannot be used to disregard the holiday as merely an exercise in ancient pagan practices, for instance, or excessive consumerism. Muslims have to remember that for practicing Christians, Christmas really is about Jesus.

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was so accommodating of Christians that according to the two earliest Islamic historians, Ibn e Saad and Ibn Hisham, the Prophet even allowed a delegation of 60 Byzantine Christians from Najran in Yemen to worship in his own mosque in Madinah. Lead by their bishop (Usquf), they had come to discuss a number of issues with him. When time of their prayer came, they asked the Prophet's permission to perform this in the mosque. He answered, "conduct your service here in the mosque. It is a place consecrated to God."

God expects us to stay away from mocking the religious beliefs of others, no matter how much we disagree with them. He says in the Quran: "And insult not those whom they (disbelievers) worship besides God, lest they insult God wrongfully without knowledge. Thus We have made fair-seeming to each people its own doings; then to their Lord is their return and He shall then inform them of all that they used to do" (Quran, 6:108).

We also have to remember that even if for many nominal Christians, the celebration is not really about participating in religious traditions, Christmas is a time for families to get together. In a number of cases it is the only time of year families get together, either because family members are scattered in different parts of the country or the world, because of communication and relationship problems, or because in America today, the family unit is becoming weaker and weaker.

Christmas is a great time to relate to our neighbors. We should not forget though, that "relating" does not mean "preaching". Dawa cannot be made in a rude manner. Allah says in the Quran: "Invite (all) to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful advice, and reason with them by ways that are the best and most gracious: because your Lord knows best, (those) who have strayed from His Path, and those who receive guidance " (Quran, 16:125).

In particular, when dealing with Jews and Christians, Allah says: "Do not argue with the People of the Book unless it is in the politest manner, except for those of them who do wrong. Say: 'We believe in what has been sent down to us and what has been sent down to you. Our God and your God is [the same] One, and we are Muslims before Him'" (Quran, 29:46).

This may not be an occasion to emphasis the differences as much as the commonality of our beliefs, unless someone is really asking you about them.

A starting point for a discussion about Christmas could be the Islamic belief in all Books revealed by Allah and all Prophets sent by Him. In this discussion, special emphasis could be made on Prophet Jesus. Non-Muslims are often surprised to discover that Muslims also believe in this noble Prophet and his great mother Mary (peace be upon her).

Remember that respect does not mean compromise. This article is not asking you to compromise anything. You have freedom of religion given by God to believe in what you believe in. But in a world where conflict is increasing, a Muslim should be a bridge- builder and a peacemaker. It was due to the Muslim practice of Islamic ideals of respect and tolerance that the key of the holiest Christian Shrine in Jerusalem, the church of the Holy Sepulcher, remains entrusted with a Muslim family, as it has been for over 1400 years.

These are the lessons which need to be learned by those extremists who attack Christians during their worship in Nigeria and those extremists who burn Masjids in the USA.

Muslims aghast at mosque that slurs Christmas: National Post ^ | 2002-12-31 | Adrian Humphreys , http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/814702/posts

Muslim leaders across Canada yesterday denounced a Christmas Day message from a Toronto mosque that said wishing someone Merry Christmas is comparable to congratulating them for committing murder or engaging in adultery.

The message, sent via the e-mail message service of the Khalid Bin Al-Walid Mosque, equates celebrating the Christian Christmas holiday with activities that are against Islamic law, including murder, illicit sex and drinking alcohol.

The message also said Muslims who participate in the Christian celebration by extending their greetings imply support for Christianity.

Several Muslim leaders spoke out sternly against the message.

The Muslim leaders condemned the message for not only contradicting the teachings of Islam but for building walls between Muslims and Christians in Canada.

"It is a ridiculous statement and doesn't follow Islamic teaching. Whoever says this is saying it out of ignorance of his or her own religion," said Mohamed Elmasry, national president of the Canadian Islamic Congress.

Dr. Elmasry said extending Christmas greetings to Christians is not only the polite and neighbourly thing to do but is completely appropriate within Islam.

"We might inform others that, although we don't celebrate Christmas, we would be happy to accept your invitation to a Christmas party at work or in the neighbourhood or to a family or friend's home," he said.

Iskandar Khan, spokesman for the British Columbia Muslim Association, said the statement does not represent the view of the vast majority of Muslims.

"That is an extreme statement. We disagree with the sentiment of the statement. Muslims, as a whole, do recognize the holidays of the other faith groups," Mr. Khan said.

Mahmoud Haddara, spokesman for the Muslim Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, said not only is it appropriate to extend Christmas greetings to Christians, he also opposes the movement to take Christian themes out of Christmas celebrations in Canada.

"These people [who wrote the message] are out to lunch. As Muslims, we appreciate Christmas is a Christian event and we wish our neighbours the best wishes for the event because it is part of the celebrations for their religion."

Dr. Elmasry said Islam allows followers to marry Jews and Christians and in Canada there are many multi-faith families, including his own.

"My wife used to be Roman Catholic and converted to Islam. My kids have uncles and aunts who are Christian and we wish them Happy Christmas and they also wish us Happy Eid [an Islamic holy day]," he said.

A spokesman for the Khalid Bin Al-Walid Mosque did not return phone calls yesterday. A spokesman for the mosque told a Toronto newspaper, however, that the e-mail was sent by a junior employee without approval from the leadership and that it does not represent the official position of the mosque.

The Khalid Bin Al-Walid Mosque was founded by the Somali Islamic Society of Canada, a charitable organization formed in 1990 to help Somali Muslims preserve their religious identity.

The organization purchased nearly an acre of land on Bethridge Road in Etobicoke in 1996 and built the mosque, which caters largely to Muslims with a Somali background.

A truly touching story. You are truly blessed to have been given the grace to sow such a seed!! And in the spirit of the season, may each of those seeds blossom into deep roots of tolerance and love for all of God creatures - 'tis the reason for the season.

lorddannie: northerners(females) adopt both their dad and husbands name in marriage. This is a precautionary measure, as they could be divorced any moment. This they call ''sak'ki uku''

WRONG!!!

Islam compels muslim women to retain their father's name after marriage.

The only time the wife of a muslim man adopts his name is if she was a Christian when she married him, at which point she is duty-bound to obey her own tradition.

U certainly talk like the thousands of women who have nothing 2 offer in marriage, but 2 holes 2 f.uck and feed, no wonder.

God has EVERYTHING to do with it. It was His personal decision to create man and woman to start with, and if He had created two men in the begining, this thread would not exist would it? When you buy a new gadget you read and read the maker's instruction so you dont waste the gadget's life. Here you have your maker's instructions and you're asking what He has to do with it

For a lady, you have too much testosterone in your system. I cant even imagine you as the custodian of a decent home.
