Kai I remember a lot of things back then in school those days, it wasn't funny at all with the ill treatment given to us by teachers

It moulded most of us the right way. The labour work taught us cleanliness and how to be responsible. The punishment was always for the block headed and bound breakers. It was fun while it lasted. So what's wrong with that?

Hmmm
I can relate to all these punishment above because I passed through them.
I attended government secondary school and in my school both the teachers and the senior students derive joy in flogging and unnecessary punishment.
I remember how I was flogged during assembly hour.
They flogged me till all my school uniform turned black.
Till date that experience still reflect on my memory.

The reason I didn't become a science student is because of the teachers, I don't know calculations and these monsters are ready to flog the hell outta you if you don't meet up to their expectations.

If you went to your primary and secondary school here in Nigeria, then i'm sure you might have went through alot.

Six years going through primary and another six years in secondary wasn't an easy journey at all.

In my own time, we were treated like slaves; they turned us to farmers. We used to work in our teachers farm every thursday, and labour in school compound every friday. As if that is not enough, we also payed for labour fees even though we are the labourers.

I only enjoyed my secondary school during my ss3. Then, i was the S.P during my time and i was respected by everybody including my teachers.

It pains me that even in this present days, our children are still been abuse in school. They flogged us like they don't care, and they want us to know book.

I went to private school, but i'm very much sure that it is more difficult in the private sector than the goverment schools.

The goverment should do something about the way our children are been treated in school.

Hmm! You really must have 'went' through a lot.
And finally, you were made the SP of your school, Congratulations!
Sure nobody forced you to know books afterwards .

Going back we really endured alot, not everyone actually came out of childhood in Naija successfully due to some of theses punishments there are better methods to address issues

It still remains the best method because Africans we are naturally stubborn. Compare African and Asian secondary school students to those in the USA and you'll discover when it comes to Maths, English and Science, we outpace them by a huge margin. Go to Japan and China, see how their kids are dealt with if they don't perform well in their studies, it makes them highly competitive, no wonder na dem dey dominate I.T and mathematical fields. Sometimes when I want to hire a new team member, I'll interview 20 black and white Americans only for them to be blown away by the only African candidate or that Raj guy from India. It still amazes me till date.

I'm a teacher.. That's how we add sense to their brain. If you don't punish them, they won't grow a single sense.

Those who were not punished like that are now making mobile phones, computer games and drones that fly on Mars. Na who come get sense pass?

This picture shows how students are punished in the USA

Na why your life useless like this. Why you never get sense upon all the flogging your teacher flog you?
Most of the teachers that abused me in school are shocked today, seeing me in a profession considered something that mostly smart people do, and wish they treated me better...flogging can never make a student smarter, it only reduces your opportunities in life. How do expect to be so mean to kids you spend so much time with, and in your small brain, think you won't meet them later in life?

You teachers are just demons preventing the growth of so many great minds

In government schools, the teachers don’t really care. I attended a private school till I got to SS1 I then went to a public school. My experience was terrible, I skipped classes and did all sorts of nonsense, even ate my school fee. grin

When I got to SS3 I stoped attending classes altogether but I would bath and leave the house every morning and return every afternoon grin

But I turned out fine tongue

The English man who introduced it was dealing with slaves. Stop misquoting the scriptures to justify abuse
the system of education you practice today is the one the English men thought you. I guess you have no idea of how English schools were like in the old times, they whip their students. Nothing like slavery, it's their idea of punishment.
The missionaries were the first to build schools here in Africa, so what me practice in our school's are what we learnt from them: example putting on school uniforms, ringing of bells etc.
Most practices run today by private schools are the ones gotten from the Americans e.g don't beat your child, it's not compulsory to wear uniforms etc.
I guess Rod and child means something different in the bible Abi?

You went to a private school where you were made the Senior Prefect in your SS3 and you don't know the proper usage of "being" and "been" in written narratives?

It's either you are lying about what leadership position you held or you attended a mushroom secondary school with airheads.
Re: How We Are Punished In Nigerian Secondary & Primary Schools (Photos) by Legendoo: 7:59pm On May 03, 2022
It's extreme but it builds character.

What we need is to be able to differentiate between discipline and abuse.

Don't listen to woke wereys who don't subscribe to discipline.

We need to fine tune it enough that any werey go collect and good kids rewarded.

European style no go work, we too stubborn, too hungry, too stupid, too lax.

Lolz.
This was one of the things I missed in school because of being brilliant and always recording your mates scores in the teachers office.
But I chop punishment from prefects Sha because of writing names of noise makers and vanacula speakers.
Godstiger:
Painful but fun
The only wahala I had to face was that I was know from a distance and can't commit any crime and don't get noticed from far.
Na my primary school I chop cane Wella because of my papa which will never pay my school fees untill dem start beating and chasing from school.
Thank God I could help myself mostly in secondary school.

You did not talk about white kids that are beyond repair and when you touch them, you face the law. You can't apply oyinbo principles here, it will fail. Do we even have a constitution?

The severity and degree of punishment is is inversely proportional to the academic achievement and brain power of the student

Please why is this sense missing in their brain as adults, such that our country is a terrible mess of underpaid and overworked teachers while politicians are feeding fat for doing nothing? Do you know
