Let me guide you here, the way 2gr engine is built, you can’t change the gasket untop because you can’t have whole access to it, YouTube can help you ok[quote author=flejnr2 post=118506544]

I just changed my Top Cylinder Gasket on 2GR. The entire engine had to come down. The area that needed to be applied with High Heat Gum was numerous and there was no way they mechanic could reach the timing chain compartment effectively. Aside from the overheating and water mixing with oil, the nozzle was blocked with carbon build up? It took 2 days to disassemble and taken to the machine where the carbon buildup was grinded and sandpapered. They also used a lot of petrol to wash the entire engine. My CAR PURRS LIKE A KITTEN. THE CAR ACCELARATES AND DRIVES LIKE IT JUST LEFT THE CAR LOT. My fuel economy is improved significantly. The transmission selection is flawless with the RMP never exceeding 2 and down after engaging gear. I bought a new double cell radiator and Radiator Fan Motor. It was the fan that messed up the old radiator, that affected the engine gasket. I wasn't paying attention to the Temperature Gauges when the engine cut off on thirdmainland bridge. I had to tow the vehicle straight home. The auto mechanics came to my home to Fix it. There is also no oil leaks days later. I am excited. OP please don't sell your car. Get a good Mechanic to fix it. Oh I fogot the O -Rings in the piston was clogged up too. that was changed too.

Op, I'm using 2009 corolla. same thing happened to me 2 years ago, it's not a big deal, just get a good mechanic.
I'm still enjoying my car till now, no issues aside changing oil. Tho it's cost me 25k then.

Spray:
Pipe supplying water from radiator to engine got bad and I didn't take notice on-time. So they were limited supply of water.

And I was careless to check my temperature at the dashboard.

I called my mechanic and he said my top gasket got burnt. He said if we get it replaced, it will be alright.

My friend who's in to car dealing business said he can help me sell it and get another car.

What's you take about this? Continue with the car or sell it?

To a carpenter, everything looks like a nail. That's why friend that deals in car wants you to buy another one. He makes profit from the sale of yours, and profit from selling to you.

Verdict.

Replace the gasket... It is not a big deal. You will get it done for less than 100k.

Yeah, because mechanics in Nigeria will remove a total of 20 bolts while disassembling the engine and after coupling, there will be about 8 bolts left on the ground.
this got me rolling on the floor. grin

Mine just started two days ago. Some mechanic was evil enough to put pure water satchels into my radiator causing the problem. Thankfully I'm cautious and noticed the temp. Rising. Cleaned and flushed radiator and issue persisted with check engine light, overheating and bubbling coolant. Now my issue is my mechanic says paper gasket works instead of the metal one. Any thoughts on this guys?

Also my engine is v6 2gr. Do I need to change both gaskets if its only one that's leaking or burnt.

change both with paper.

Mental gasket will cause overheating. Because there is no way Nigeria mechanic can do that with high tech lesser precision to get a 100% seal & compression.

This talk is for your pocket. Are you ready to pay the price. If Yes there are techs that can do a cylinder head gasket job correctly using OEM double layered metallic gasket. But you see where the problem lies. When the car owner say na 5k them Dey sell gasket. That’s where the problem starts from
