Please just remain inactive there. At least nobody will say you don't have classmates or you didn't go to school. If you ask Tinubu, you will know the importance of classmates.

It depends on your alma mater.

My secondary school alumni association donates money for sick members and for members hosting events. Those hosting events are not mandated to give the association anything. Accept the alumni's donation and serve the alumni whatever you can afford. Two or three years ago, they talked about asking members in diaspora to help members in Nigeria to japa. But that topic didn't get a serious attention.

My university alumni association funds dinner night for graduating students every year and occasionally call members for get-together events without mandatory contributions from members. The rich ones silently donate the money.
It's a good one. Most of those Associations don't force people to contribute but could be useful in resuscitating old colleagues.

True, especially those University groups where there was no sincere cohesion and bonding during school days, whatever they are doing now is just a waste of time because those negative perception will still be in the minds of many amongst them. Everyone should jut FAC themselves or mini groups that trey share Same ideologies together
I exited mine when I heard our results are approved! Iโ€™ve never regretted it. The course rep assumed the place of Alpha and Omega over us while in school.

It's a waste of time, my own is to read comments and look away because I know them, most of them don't really care about each other, what they do is to form fake love while forgetting how they were antagonizing each during our school days.

Do you still expect people to hold grudges over what has happened during their time in school?

That coat you wear has contributed to your isolation.

There is nothing without merits and demerits. For such group that was founded, runned, and administered on good ideology of friendship for betterment of themselves and old school, it is good.

Joining Alumni WhatsApp groups is typically voluntary, giving individuals the freedom to participate or not, based on their interests and objectives. These groups indeed foster a sense of community among like-minded individuals, allowing for the development of connections and relationships.

Transitioning from online WhatsApp interactions to face-to-face gatherings adds another layer of depth to the community experience. For example, in my Alumni we meet periodically. Pay a stipulated monthly dues (this is the only compulsory thing). They organised a football competition with a trophy and cash prize to the winners last year. Members benefit from group life insurance coverage, that pays a minimum of N2,000,000 to the next of kin on demise of the member. Job offers are abound, though competence and ability is paramount. We do not contribute for birthdays/burials. However, freewill donations are encouraged to run the Alumni. In a nutshell, the Alumni I belong to is subsided by a few members.

What keeps the association together is passion. If everyone sees it as a pot to draw funds then it would collapse. Its is a wrong assumption that everyone on the group is jobless. The strength of any Alumni is diversity of talents, experiences, and contributions of its members. I believe that is the contact everyone seems to be looking for.

In mine, members has gotten jobs through members, many contracts gets awarded and executed amongst us, our yearly together have ensured intra group marriages too so it's never a waste of time for us and yes, we are employed and most of us are doing just fine.

Maybe yours isn't well organized and doesn't have clear set goals and objectives tailored at achieving worthwhile

grin how to leave the group is my major problem now. I have discovered that the major reason why my group was set up is for some guys to show off. Unnecessary show off. Secondly, our head girl has factionalized the whole system. What ever she and her cacus members decide is final. I don pay money for burial tire. Those who do not have money to pay for any events are being discriminated against.
Offline are you not discriminated if you lack money?

20% of my secondary school classmates are doing well (some overseas, others I can call VERY rich).

50% are doing well but not even up to me, but they are trying to 'keep up with the Joneses' (showing off) one was looking down on me because I dont care about fashion meanwhile the caas in my bag was probably his one year salary.

The unfortunate 30% I pray God answers their prayers. They are struggling.

These social media groups are used to show off. USELESS!... I always leave when someone adds me...

Back in 2009 they were oppressing people with pictures of their cars and what not, but as soon as Instagram allowed Android, and they saw real flexing and real money, all their cars and houses looked local so they privatized it. Some people can not be happy until they show off to the less privileged.

Just for the records, I only graduated sec school to pleas my father. Infact, when they called us for group class phonograph (after our last paper), I literally ran away while they were calling me. My SS3 years, I would take attendance in the morning and then leave to town until closing time. I felt cheated when they didn't made me a prefect. God knows if not for my father, I would have drooped out of sec school and would probably be rich by now. I really didn't learn anything meaningful in university. Reading and writing was enough.

It was a preview of what is going on the the civil service.

Those of my friends that are prominent, I have never asked them for favour but they respect me like I respect them, but if we were not close back then, I often greet lightly or just ignore. Thanks be to God, I am not a panhandler.
