The title for the previous thread was:

A thread for acoustic guitarists: beginners, amateurs and professional

The title could be extended so as not to limit the thread to only acoustic guitarists.

Nastydroid: writing it in text will be more complicated.i will advise to download e-books and also watch videos on youtube let me drop 3 chords for u
G major=5(2)6(3)1(3)
C major=2(1)4(2)5(3)
F major=12(1)2(2)3(3)
() this indicates the fret number.while the numbers outside are d strings number n.b for the f major 12 you will be holding string 1 and 2 together which u may not get it now but don't stop trying....

those are chords for a lead guitar aren't they??

Finding a youtube video to help learn africa style of playing guitar(all those lead and bass guitar sounds you hear in the typical juju songs sad ) can be quite a dauting task.
To know how to solo is the main thing, strumming chords all the time can be quite boring(unless you want to be a passive player like Asa- who only plays I-II-III or I-IV-V in all her songs)

tho you can learn chord on a bass guitar using the 1; 3;5 method explained below.

On key C
d:r:m:f:s:l:t:d
1:2:3:4:5:6:7:8

for doh chord
1:3:5= d:m:s

for re chord
2:4:6= r:f:l
the same thing is applicable in all other keys.

One thing you have to know is that after the doh chord which doh is your number one in the 1:3:5 method, your next number one becomes the re note for re chord likewise mi chord....etc...etc

There are no such thing as chords for lead guitar. Even g7th b7th e7th d7th and a7th chords can be used as lead. It all depends in your strum pattern and notes you play in between.

How many chords do you know now?

I kn all d chords in dere simple form(no inversions i.e i can play C bt wen u talk abt C9, Csus etc am lost) both neck chords and bare chords.....
my major issues are i cant solo and also i cant play chords and pick notes at d same tym.
thus weneva i play bar chords i play strickly reggae style
Re: A thread for acoustic guitarist: beginners, amateurs and professionals by MrKnowitall: 4:36pm On Jul 21, 2014
Do this when you get time. Hold the Dmajor chord down. Then use your thumb to play the D string. Then you first finger to play G string. Then second finger plays the B string. Then third finger plays E string. Repeat. Hold down the Dmajor chord the entire time. Play this using one count to start. Then go faster once you get it.

You can go from D major to d minor to d7th as chord progression to start.

If I reply you now, e go be like say I dey derail thread.
The last time I checked, this thread is for guitarists.
Is piano as mobile as guitar..?
Can you use only Piano to play live rock music..?
Can you do what Carlos Santana and Djimi Dludlu does with the guitar on Piano..?
Piano can never give you that acoustic sound.
Don't try to console ur self because you can't play the guitar.

And by the way, I play both.

Thanks to the mod that brought this thread to the front page. The lost 'hacked' thread had lots of information, recordings, lessons and skills for guitarists. I hope this thread will live up to the expectations of the previous thread.

So guys, say hello to my latest semi - acoustic guitar. I call her Sapphire. She is a CORT AD880CE series with inbuilt amplifier.

Below is a link from one of my latest recordings

I listened to the happy birthday song. You should work in your chord progression man. It sounds ok but at the same time very basic. What chords were you playing? It sounded like you were only playing D and maybe G?

By the way, my favourite chords on the acoustic are Em, G, C9, Asus, D2, Bm. I really don't use any F chord variants to play currently. I find the the F chords too close to C chords though...
