ed2gbi: Not at all. The supplier told me that they will send me another tracking number from Hong Kong. That they shipped the order through Hong Kong. But I suspect foul play. The problem is that I paid for the order using a virtual credit card here in South Africa so I don't know if I will be able to get a refund if I open a dispute.
@ed2gbi please i sent you a PM please do reply i need to discuss something with you. Thanks

Free shipping to ship items that may weigh as much as 10kg? I seriously doubt that.

mrhello:
Someone asked HOW did u pay in2 a Chinese acct. frm Nigeria, u replied YES. ''Bros, u for take am easy now"

Btw, are u sure did is 4 real? A major chinese manufacturer wt gmail acct.?

Well let's hear d details.

Yes, Sales Representatives of major Chinese manufacturers use Gmail accounts. I have dealt severally with them, even paid via Paypal to the email and got my items sent sharply. The more important thing is the due diligence on the importer.
Re: Do It Yourself - Alibaba Version by maxxy: 7:32pm On Sep 24, 2014
mrhello:
It all depends.

Following general procedure, u request quotation & they ask u hw many pcs u would like 2 order. Based on dis, they'll tell u d price per piece on MOQ basis & on sample basis.

And becos u would like 2 test sample product 2 confirm quality, then u would want 2 request sample. Normally, u pay 4 d sample product & most sellers, if nt all, wil let u know dat d money u are paying 4 it is refundable. Dis is hw it goes: when u come back 2 place actual order, d sum wil be deducted frm d total. Invariably, it appears dat d sample product is given u FREE.

Note. Most times, d price of d sample product is always high becos they too assume u may nt come back, esp. in d case all u actually need is dat 1pc u are ordering.

Now, when u say 'free samples', I dont know d qnty u hv in mind. Bt some manufacturers hv no limited MOQ, some can even allow u same price quoted for 1000pcs/MOQ for 5pcs order, etc.

Hope dis helps.

This is correct.

Ymodulus: Have been so busy.

Couldn't update the thread. now let me do.

I recently carried out a deal importing close to 495 Pieces of watch.

From the makers of a well known watch Brand.

During this transaction I wanted the use of Escrow as a form of Payment rather than Bank transfer so I told the seller some lies but it didn't work.. in return I learnt new things.

1. A Gold Seller on Alibaba will hardly Cheat You of your money.

See transaction below

A gold seller will hardly dupe you, so I stick to dealings with them as a matter of principle.. Other things to watch out for are whether the supplier is a verified supplier and whether onsite operations and legal status have been confirmed by Alibaba

NnamdiN: sample charges are too expensive angry

Sample prices sometimes cost qlmost the same as 50pcs of the item. I usually opt to buy 50pcs after enough research of the item

but an item that has free shipping on aliexpress will still be shipped free even if it's up to 20kg(I think) except the difference in cost(from both sites) makes up for it.

depends on what you're buying. I wanted to customize leather wristwatches for some politicians, needed 8 samples with different images inside, watch was cheap for the quantity that I wanted(4$) but sample charge for the 8 was 245$. It's a gamble I can't afford to take.

Any item that has free shipping definitely has the shipping cost added to the cost of the item.

That's what a lot of buyers do not realise

Very true. Your best bet is to engage other sellers through the chat system so that you can quickly get quotes

Most sellers on Alibaba will charge you for shipping to Nigeria, except they have already factored that into the price. They even what to charge you for sending to your agent in China, such as Nonnykings. It makes no economic sense to me to allow the supplier charge me for shipping (and make a profit from that too) when I have more cost effective Nigerian alternatives.
