You could have just called me out, you know. . . undecided

So telling people to read is an insult? Even if that is the solution to their problems? You think anyone here has got time? You think people here just lay around waiting for people to come ask same questions all over again? Most people here are mothers and fathers who have a life outside Nairaland, but we still make out time for things that are important to us. If this is truly important to anyone, he would read! Then he will be better equipped and can even help other people.

When you are done with the basics, you can then ask some specific questions and it will be easier to help. How does one start helping someone that says "I want to have a baby in the US, what are the procedures". That means he wants us to repeat the whole 168 pages all over again? Ain't we meant to be moving forward?

Anyways, I've given my own solution to the poster's problem. If you think that is "stylishly insulting people", please give yours. kiss

Phema my sister oya chop kiss! if anyone truly is serious then they would take out time to read and see what the whole thread is about....how can you make informed decisions especially about life changing stuff; if you do not take out time to research and view the pros and cons.....

Our Nigerian hospital is asking for 5k for fit to fly letter and 5k for all the medical report. They are losing some income by letting you go,don't you think they should demand for more?

Actually by law you are entitled to your medical records, its in fact your 'property'. You are not bound to have your baby there just because they were giving you ante natal treatment. It is only in Nigeria they take advantage of people like this! Its like asking you to pay for sick leave slip.

Thanks this is an eye opener, when they quoted those amounts, I thought they were generous. grin

They treat the records as if it were something sacred. Maybe they want to avoid a lawsuit incase of misdiagnosis.

cfcchick: Hey peeps. .can someone pls kindly refresh my memory with that Alabama hospital pls.

It's Jackson Hospital, Montgomery Alabama and they charge 2800 for normal delivery.
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by anonymousmum: 5:54pm On Oct 03, 2014
With regard to the medical records, the contents of your records is your property, however the actual documentation i.e your case file, and the test results is the property of the hospital and they can charge any amount for copies to be made.

Medical report (a one-pager ) from LUTH / other general hospitals is 15k.

Like Tvegas said, ur leaving them is a loss of income for them.

I use St Nicholas and I am just waiting for a hefty bill when I want to request for all these docs, wetin man go do.

Lol, not a chance. Simple print out of my first scan, they said no, the hospital charged me 1k.

But really, just thinking about it o, the HMO should be happy to pay for it because if I stay back in Nigeria, they will be picking up the heftier bill of the entire delivery.

Tvegas: We use St Ives and that hospital can bill for Africa,Cost of delivery is N320k,with that amount wife can birth in Alabama. St Nicholas cant be that high.

haha at Alabama..

Reddington is like 1milla for the total package of ANC and delivery. I dont know how much it is for St. Nicholas because I am under HMO.

I sign for about 30k at each ANC visit sha (consultation and meds)

Newbies, if you are serious about birthing in the states, I strongly recommend you take time out of your busy schedule to read the entire thread, it is full of valuable information that would help you make your own decision easily. There is bearly any new information here rather what we have now are updates and easier ways of going about the process.

I know few people that have never posted a single comment here but have read the entire thread and using the information gotten here they had their children in the states without stress or outrageous bills.

Trust me, there is a wealth of information here and undertone information that you have to read in between the lines to get.

All the best.......

Hello,
St Nicholas does not charge anything for medical report & fitness to fly. I can attest to that. Just tell your gynae what you want so he's aware coz he has to sign it and the send an email to their records departement. Its free. They will even scan your entire file for you and send you soft copy if you specifically ask for that. You don't need a printout of your ultrasounds for dr huynh, a scanned copy will do.
Cheers

damsel020: This sounds interesting, me I don't want whala o. Cos ve also called all d nos and no one seem to know anything.

@uchetobi can u help with this info?

damsel020: @jaysmom how is ur LO? Please just a quick one, i had my baby on Tuesday at Oakbend. But my concern now is paying for the pathology and the epidural, who did you contact to make this payment or did they contact you?

they will send the bill to your registered address. this normally takes time, i remember i had to chase all of them (except the pediatrician)so if you want to leave asap you should call them. the epidural people which is greater Houston anesthesiologist or something that sounds like that, have a 4weeks pay policy to still pay $850 else they will charge you 3k dollars or so, yet they dont send the bill on time. pls call them that you are a self pay patient who utilized their services at Oakbend recently. to avoid wahala. congrats on your safe delivery

for the pathologist dont forget to ask for your 40% discount

Snowles:

Funny i had the same experience, couldn't reach anyone willing to take payment for the epidural. Called the number i was given for the anesthesiologists but they said i had no account with them! Called the hospital and they said it had nothing to do with them. I never received a bill from them so i let it go. ..

the bill will get to your US address when you are in naij! they are really slow. might be best for you to keep calling the,m, cuz they have a short window for the $850 discounted bill

Blogerina St Nichs refused to copy my file. They insisted I see my gynae who agreed to a medical report. He also said he would attach some tests. Id pick it up next week and see what is in it.
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by bloggerina: 1:39am On Oct 04, 2014
Hello,
If you are using dr huynh at whmc, if you send her ordinary medical report, she will respond saying the info is not enough (because the medical report is like a summary). Just print that email and show your gynae at your next Antenatal appointment. Ofcourse he will say they can't give you your file etc, just say thank you sir. Then take the same email to records dept, ask for their supervisor, talk to them sweetly and politely that you don't want your file, you just need scanned copies of everyth in your file since you got pregnant. Then send them a mail saying so. The manager will work on your email request. You can follow up with phone calls.
Talk to them nicely. Smile and be pleasant. They will give you what you want without you spending a dime

I'm just still considering. I got prices for C.S and it was good. about 8000 minus pediatrician, circumsion and tests but there's chance for a normal delivery. dh is even saying I should just do the c.s in el paso and close eye...

No wahala. The Lord is your strength.Just make a decision that will be comfortable for you.
