I envy Medical Doctors a lot. Medicine is almost synonymous to someone answering a call into the ministry. An Engineer can switch profession easily without suffering much stigmatization but not so for Doctors. They just have to stick to their calling. A medical doctor working in a bank or any other sector will be ridiculous. So for this I will accept the better treatment during NYSC and Internship cos they may not enjoy such benefits later on and they can't easily switch.

And what percentage of the engineering graduates earn that 350 to 450k?

My dear, an engineer working in a core engineering field will surely be likely to rake in that amount ordinarily.

the advantage doctors have is that their surpasses their supply. I give kudos to them cos it takes a lot to be a qualified doctor.

Comparing a successful doctor and a successful engineer. the Engineer earns better

LAW? Really?
Don't get us started on Law please. That profession is saturated jor.
lol..that's d simple truth.....the two courses that usually have the highest applicants are medicine and law,it's a fact....but there are several courses that are atleast on par with those two like engineering and technology courses, but they are underrated..

op you forgot to mention FOOD ENGINEERS who design and fabricate food machines and ensure we all get standard food products in stores.

I totally agree. Every profession has its benefit. It all boils down to the fact that every branch of science depends on each other for sustenance or survival.
The survival of one depends on the other.
Here I do not support any of them. Each branch is big and wide on its own technology, engineering and medicine.

If the engineers build and develop their machineries they need technology for it to function and if the medical experts decides not to use their machines then it's wasted effort. Likewise the medical feed need technology and engineering to function too.

I am not a medical expert but a food science technologist.

If we all begin to argue about what profession is best and is poorly treated we won't reach an agreement cos everyone will stand on their right and not admit defeat. Where do u put food technologists ?

THE HEALTH OF THE WHOLE NATION INCLUDING DOCTORS AND ENGINEERS RESTS IN OUR HAND.
If a food scientist manufactures a food or misses a critical step in the production.its a matter of seconds before the whole nation begins suffering the consequences. Nafdac, son, etc and the food industries is capable of wiping out a nation in a short time. Everyone requires food and that's why food experts (engineers and technologist)

Let's all stop this discrimination, everyone embrace each other cos we all depend on each other for our existence.

Sadly we are in a country that gives room for discrimination. Where one profession is celebrated than the other hence the fights and constant argument

There are just too many Engineers compare to the medical student so economy of supply and demand set in here, imagine putting all engineers in a flat and paying them 90k, the system would not support that.

Engineers are trained to be creative in the midst of challenges, Doctors would loss focus and crumble under the same challenges that makes an engineer to soar

If its based on salary medicine is a waste of time oil and gas engineers earn millions esp. If they re highly experienced compared to doctors of same no. Of experience.

I bet you, u will beat that "someone" until he starts vomitting...I think we don't really know what theses doctors passed through in medical school....It's not easy o..Please let's give honour to whom honour is due..

I disagree. There are actually students that invent things. Yes you read right, nigerian students.
I'm a poly student studying food science and technology. My course mates have invented milling machines (huge ones used in flour mills), popcorn machines, oven for baking, bread kneading machine, a solar dryer, the list is endless.

The problem is some of these students aren't inspired to do more. No funds no sponsors. Where are they supposed to get the money from. And even when they invent things they are not even commended

Teaching is teaching.
An engineer corp member doesn't work as an engineer at all, simple.
A doctor who is employed to teach biology to ss2 students will be paid lime other corpers.
But once he is in the hospital, doing the work of a doctor, he shouldn't be paid 5k as a corp teacher.

exactly. not the discipline but the work. that same engineer could get into an IOC and earn 1 million a month while the doctor is still on 200k per month.

In Osun state service doctor corper get 98k monthly with accommodation plus 19800 federal allowee. I am not a doctor and I don't envy them. If they can set line for an HIV patient and someone with hepatitis b which are easily transmissible and you that just write engineering on paper and talk what you have not seen for four years. How many machines have you seen. Engineering my foot.

They should pay agric students better than Nigeria engineering graduate. Is car the only invention by Nigerian engineers. Everytime unilag student produce a car, covenant students produce a car. Rubbish. Produce or assemble. Lie lie people angry

currently a final year nursing student. if you know the pain it takes to study medical sciences, then you ll understand that it is only fair to give preferential treatment. no course us easy to study, but medical science us really challenging.

crude and I'll fabricated machines that are manually controlled.

Listen and listen good. You not not an engineer. I will call my dad an engineer cos he schooled in Russia and Israel. The so called engineers from Nigeria school act funny and he most times doubt their certificate tongue

All over the world its no more "News" that these two field of career are both professional fields especially when it comes to practicing it in full scale. But its so saddened here in my country (Nigeria) the way Medical Student(Pharmacists,Nurses, Medical Lab Scientist and Doctors) are being given mouth watery treatment on NYSC service ground and the future Engineers are being treated like idiots.

Infact in Benue State where I'm serving Med Guys are paid like 60k @ppa, 30k @state level followed with 3bedroom flats of Doctors quarters(free of charge) nd 19k of allawee compared with an Engineering Student sent to primary or secondary school with 2k@ ppa and just your 19k of allawee with no accommodation even if you had a First Class(B.Eng) in school. With this sad experience I thing the Engineering Bodies in this country (NSE nd COREN) are allowing our government to cheat us big time.

Med Guys make sure life of human is sustained but Engineers make life so comfortable for humans, we are everywhere going great things all around the world...

1. Automobile industry
2. Air-Condition and Refrigeration(Plasma air-con,doing great)
3. Electronics Devices (Mobile Devices,Laptops etc)
4. ICT and Telecommunications
5. Provision of Electricity(even if its still Bad, but Med Guys can't still do d job if not trained Engineers)
6. Biotechnology (Engineering coming into Medicine)
7. Architects, Civil Engineers and Builders
8. AeroNautical Engineers (Aircraft Engineers)
9. Marine Engineers

Just to mention a few now tell me, would you say its fair after all these areas of specialisation we (the upcoming Engineers) should be badly treated?
What about agricultural students who feed the nation , the most important of the three basic need of humans. What of geologist , chemist/biochemist , microbiologist or accountants. Stop whining and do your best to improve the nation

Sorry sir, ignorance stinks!

You should probably go dispose that mentality that engineers are capable of doing one thing BUILDING OR CONSTRUCTION.

Where do u put electrical engineers : you don't have any in Nigeria abi
Petrochemical engineers: you have none abi
Agricultural engineers: you haven't seen one abi. No wonder people use ur teeth as hoe
automotive engineer : where is innoson cars and the new Nigeria made cars

I could go on and on. Don't be quick to type. No wonder dolphins are better know to use a larger percent of their brain than humans.
