Which Buhari? Is it the one who does not know his left and right? when he was a military head of state we only hear Idiagbon government who was just second in command? Buhari claiming to secure Nigeria was like Ngige promising to stop kidnapping in Anambra if elected while he was first person to be kidnapped in Anambra even as a governor. How can Buhari secure Nigeria when he could not secure himself when he was a military head of state because military coup against buhari was the easiest military coup in Nigeria. Buhari is so weak even in his young age as a military head of state he could not command things and high military command was just taking orders from Tunde Idiagbon.

Muhammadu Buhari
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to the BBC, "Buhari's attempts to re-balance public finances by curbing imports led to many job losses and the closure of businesses."[15] These losses were accompanied by a rise in prices and a decline in living standards.[15] Some may hold contrary view to this assertion and call it mischievous though,[16] because Buhari is admired by many for his uprightness and stand against corruption. His government is revered for its ability to keep the country afloat by making progress through sheer economic ingenuity even when it rejected IMF loan and refused to adopt IMF conditionalities to devalue the Naira.[17] His government is praised for its gain in reducing inflation by refusing to devalue the nation's currency, the Nigerian Naira, curbing imports of needless goods, curtailing oil theft and using counter trade policy to barter seized illegally bunkered crude oil for needful goods like machineries, enabling it to export above its OPEC quota.[2]

Buhari's admirers believe that he was overthrown by corrupt elements in his government who were afraid of being brought to justice as his policies were beginning to yield tangible dividends in terms of public discipline, curbing corruption, lowering inflation, enhancing workforce and improving productivity.[19]

The Shehu Shagari and Alex Ekwueme regime introduced austerity measures in 1983, this was a result of a short fall in oil revenue. Nigerians were feeling the heat.
When Buhari took over, he announced that the austerity measure was cancelled. People jubilated in the streets. He promulgated a policy of price fixing. Soldiers broke into people's shops and forced them to sell their goods at government controlled prices. The economic laws of demand and supply in a free market enterprise were suspended.
Then the goods in the shops became exhausted. Scarcity of food set in. Nigerians began to queue up for essential commodities as each product was now rationed. The hard time became ten times worse off than it was during the Shagari period. People had money but can't find food to buy. Poverty level tripled. Massive hunger swept through the land as he lived in luxury at Dordan Barracks until his colleagues decided that this was the wrongest man to rule a country. He was the first Nigerian leader whose closest associates removed from office due to high handedness and gross incompetence.
What kind of economic policy will this man promulgate?

General Buhari forced his military tribunal to jail Ambrose Ali, the then governor of old Bendel State. Ambrose Ali was tutored to blindness inside kirikiri just to make him confess that he was a thief.
Ambrose Ali died due to massive torture and blindness.
Upon his death it was discovered that he had just one piece of undeveloped land in Benin....
What kind leader is this?
In trying to immediately garner a Marxist posture like most African coupists, General Buhari banned importation of major essential commodities. He never took his time to plan for alternatives to these items. As a result, it was catastrophic. According to the BBC ", "Buhari's attempt to re-balance public finances by curbing imports led to many job losses and the closure of businesses. These losses were accompanied by a rise in prices and a decline in living standards".
What economic policy will this man pursue. ?

Another propagandist theory from agents of saTANs called TAN. If you guys takes over the entire airwaves of major stations, must you also spread your falsehoods here on Nairaland?

The greatest challenge and problem the ruling party has today is the great GMB! How else does one explain the panicky early campaigns deplored for GEJ and notably the satanic agents called TAN?

I usually hate arguing with paid to post agents but they seem to be misleading the nigerian youth who were either not born during the Buhari era or too young to know what went down.

Yes General Buhari made mistakes during his rule, he was authoritarian, he denied press freedom, he applied a law retroactively and more. but his legacies can never be forgotten. We the older generation that lived through the era remember him actually paying up our debts. He had a schedule of paying off the debts completely in a few years and actually paid about $4 billion before he was overthrown by IBB. Forget the figures PDP-TAN controlled DMO is spewing out ahead of 2015 general elections, if you want to get the actual debt profile and economic performance of the period, get newspaper clipping from 1983 - 1985, or get information from foreign media.

Indeed, by the end of 1984, hunger level rose and things became worse than ever in Nigeria. These Buhari vuvezelas were not born then. Hence they are romanticizing the idealess coup plotter.

Please provide any proof Buhari paid $5B of Nigerian's debt. Also list his legacies you want us to remember. I was alive then, just like you. Now tell me something I don't know.

Tell the young people on the forum, how much the debt was in 1983 Dec and how much it became in 1985 Dec.

Also am wondering is stoping unnecessary importation in a country which has resources for self reliance really a bad thing 4 a govt.to do? Sibabasibaba1:
Another oft bandied lie of these Buharistans is that Buhari Ekwueme was jailed for corruption. Ekwueme was the first politician to be picked up by Buhai boys on the day of the Buhari coup-31 Dec 1983. Nothing incriminating was found on the guy. So, to incriminate him, Buhari sold a lie to Nigerians that $56,000 was found in Ekwueme's house. Till today, nobody apart from Buhari and perhaps, Idiagbon, his 2iC, saw that money. Other accused politicians were tried in the military tribunal and jailed. But Ekwueme was neither taken to a tribunal nor a court--not even a kangaroo one. For 20 months the man was jailed without trial. Later, a panel set up by IBB headed by Justice Uwaifo investigated Ekwueme and returned a verdict that politics made Ekwueme even poorer. He praised Ekwueme for his forthrightness. Till today, Ekwueme has never been found guilty of any crime in his days as Vice President.

Yet, these Buharistans keep passing off this gross abuse of fundamental human rights as an achievement. Too bad!

They say Buhari can never allow corruption to fester. Now, I grew up in the old Imo State. I was small chap when Buhari came on board. Before Buhari's coup, Sam Mbakwe was the governor of the (old) Imo State, comprising present day Imo and Abia as well as the Afikpo axis of Ebonyi. Mbakwe was everything any state would desire as a governor. He set out to industrialize Imo. The infrastructure his government built in the old Imo has yet to be rivaled. He established Imo State University immediately he became governor. The university, along with the then Bendel State University (now Ambrose Alli University) and Lagos State university were the first set of state universities in Nigeria. They were all established in the same year. So, Mbakwe did well by all standards.

Buhari's government appointed Ike Nwachukwu the military governor of Imo State. Ike Nwachukwu (meanwhile Nwachukwu's mother comes from Buhari's Kastina State), under Buhari, set Imo State back just like Buhari set Nigeria back. It was as if he was out to undo all that Mbakwe did. He appointed his cronies the heads of the industries Mbakwe built or maintained. Thence commenced the gradual degeneration of Imo. Worse still, Nwachukwu's government forced civil servants, teachers, students and pupils in the state to pay what was called SURVIVAL LEVY. I was in primary three then and I remember I paid N12. Yes, N12. It was a relatively big money then. Remember, in all the great things Mbakwe did in Imo, the people were never levied. That money was looted as till today, nobody can point to what Ike Nwachukwu's government did with that survival levy. Yet, Buhari did not see that as corruption. But his followers tell us that he loathes corruption.

That is why you can never win me over with Buhari will fight corruption bla bla bla. What is even corruption? Corruption, according to the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary is "dishonest or illegal behavior, especially by people in authority". This shows that corruption goes beyond looting of government treasury or embezzlement of public funds. It includes any illegal behaviour. Going by this definition, coup plotting is a crime by Nigerian law. Thus, it is an illegal act. It is corruption and nothing more pretentious. Thus, Buhari, a confirmed coup plotter and human rights abuser, the man who promulgated the decrees 2 and 4 of 1984 to jail journalists who report the corrupt activities of his regime, is CORRUPT. Enough of Buhari's hypocrisy.

Fellow Nigerians, corruption cannot fight corruption.
