Hello Visa Officer,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I'm hoping you would have an answer for me. I'm applying for a B1/B2 visa category to go spend Christmas with my boyfriend. I'm a little unclear about how to answer the why are you going to the US question the VO would ask me.

Should I specify to see my boyfriend or just go with generic friend? His letter of invitation suggests we are more than friends and I wouldn't want it to appear I'm contradicting myself.

I would appreciate an answer to this seemingly simple question.

Regards

Hello VO! I'm new on this thread and i would like if you guys can help me out on this issue...
My uncle (us citizen) is inviting my mum and I to his birthday party in atlanta nxt yr... I've filled the DS-160 form for my mum and mine also, but i'm having difficulties scheduling appointment because the system displays an error message each time i tried adding my informations as dependent on my mum's profile (tho i'm above 18) the message was "unable to add information cox some or all information added belong to another applicant"

2) i also tried booking the appointment separately but still yet i cant proceed with my information because anoda error still displays saying " the information i provided belongs to another profile with another email"

Tho.. I av bin denied visa last yr october because an agent did it for me, but now i'm applying by my self without the help of any agent. I guess its the profile the agent created for me last year was causing the problem? But there must be a way to resolve this issue which i'll need you guys to help me with.

I've also sent series of mail to the us service desk, but no reply.

Pls help me out VO....

Hello V.O, I was denied visa 6th September I wanted to reapply immediately but I decided to wait a while since you advised that I wait 90 days preferably, I intend reapplying in January and also I don't want to apply in Lagos I really don't, I want to use Abuja this time around just for the sake of fair hearing, I hope it won't raise eyebrows that I applied in Lagos in September and now in Abuja in January. Thank you so much.

Hello All, its my first time here.
Attention Visa Officer: I have an appointment with your embassy in a few weeks, hopefully I would submit my online form this week and my letters from work would as well be ready.
Am single in my early thirties, have been to the UK four times and to two countries in East Africa. I have been on my oil and gas job for 3yrs now, my annual leave is approaching and this year intend to spend part of it in manhattan, NY. So I am applying for B1/B2 visa to enter the US for tourism purpose, am staying at a hotel in midtown as I do not know anyone in the US, kindly advice and encourage me, I have heard and read too many horrible stories about interviews at your embassy. Kindly guide me as much as you can and asap please. Thank you!

Your I-20 will indicate a "start date" for the program. It is unlikely you will be issued a student visa if you come for interview after your program has started. If this is the case, you should contact the school and get an updated I-20 with a new program start date (possibly next semester or term) to ensure that you have ample time to interview and travel to the U.S. before your program starts. dear abujaniv

My my brother has been refused a visa twice at the embassy a few years back, although it wasn't a virgin passport. Now he wants to reapply for he and his family to visit USA this December or Newyear but he is worried as someone told him the cause may be that he has been banned. He used an agent then but told the agent not to use any fake document as he is able to provide legitimate ties and all. Do you think he was banned? If he is banned truely, will this affect his family? I appreciate your time.

After visa refusals, the consular officer gives each applicant a letter explaining the reason why the applicant was refused. Your brother can look on the letter to find the exact section of U.S. law used to refuse his case. We do not know about this specific case, but if your brother has interest in going to the U.S., he is welcome to reapply and present his case before a consular officer.

Hi abujaniv,

I was on F-1 visa here in the US.My present company then filed for my H1B and I've already applied for stamping at a US Consulate. I wanted to know if mistakes in 'Point of Contact' and 'Do you have any travel plans' section of DS-160 could delay stamping after the interview.

Many thanks!

Dear VO, please I beg you to read my post patiently as it's a mixture of DV and NIV issue.

In 2004, A couple had their Visa Interview under d DV 2003 program..after series of interview and proof of relationship presented with photos and marriage certificate..they were denied with the remark "your original DV lottery entry was not properly filled in comformance with the rules and regulations of the DV Program, and is therefore disqualified. You are not eligible to participate in the DV 2004 program"
Note: the man was the main applicant
Fastfoward: Today they are no longer married, as the marriage crashed due to irreconciliable differences a few years back, thus they have been separated eversince but not legally divorced.
Now the woman who have since been travelling to Europe for holiday wishes to visit the US, what should she fill as marital status?
Single or Separated?
I also wish to know if not having a divorce certificate will affect her visa decision as she is separated and not divorced...
Your take on this will be highly appreciated, thank you.

Hi, Abujaniv
I want to travel to the US in December for a visit on invitation though, but I haven't applied for a visa interview yet cause I need a letter from my school to show my Nysc in march 2015 as a tie. Do you think it's too late to get a visa and still travel in December?

Hi I was recently refused a B2 visa please can I reapply for the next interview as my status has change .
abujaniv:
Hello all!

We see all the questions that come in. Thank you for coming back! A few observations:

It is very common for people to advise Officers that they have a base salary and get allowances or bonuses at various times. A good rule of thumb is to state the salary that you feel best reflects your income, both on the DS-160 and in your interview.

When you come for an interview, we assume you know why you chose a school, why you want to study the major that you’ve chosen, why you are going to a particular place, etc. Visa decisions are primarily based on the interview, so memorizing questions and answers is never a good idea. We can’t say this enough -- being honest and straightforward is the best policy.

hello VO

Am so delighted with all the response have been reading here and I pray God will solve your own problems too...

my case is that I have been applying for visa for like 3 times and had been rejected so my fiancée thought am rejected because my passport is fresh ( av not traveled outside Nigeria before ).

He paid someone to help us get a Dubai stamp on it and I went to d embassy last month ( Oct 2014) and the interviewer discovered that the stamp that man put on my passport was fake so I was rejected....

I know I can't use the passport again so we are planing getting a new one and my fiancée don't want me to go through that mistake again so we both plan to visit Dubai for real and my company is sending me on a conference in Harvard next year April

am getting married in Dec this year which will make me have a change of name on my new passport .

my question is : hope getting a new passport I still stand a chance of going for the conference next year
and hope the mistake I made on my passport won't cause me a life ban from entering the united state .

thank u so much as I await a response from you

My fiancé filed for a K1 visa for me and my daughter in 2009 but we had a fight and in our second appearance at the U.S. embassy I was told he stopped te application. 4 years later we got back together and this year2014 he wants to invite me to visit him first .
My question
1.is does he av to write the embassy of our reunion or
2.should we assume they no longer have my denied application in their achives
3. He is saying he doesn't want to open up an already forgotten issue by the embassy if they no longer make reference to it
4.his work documents av been with me for six months now, can I still use that in December at the U.S. embassy?
I work now and earn a gud income and my daughter schools in Nigeria as well. Pls advise me accordingly. God bless u

Hello VO,
Me, my wife and daughter did our visa interview today, at the end of the interview, the consular officer collected my bank statement and told us we will be contacted. He didn't ask much question.
VO: good morning
Us: good morning
VO: you were denied visa in April 2014 (in April 2014, our purpose of visit was same as today, but we didn't have doctor correspondence)
Me: yes
VO: what's your purpose of visit this time.
Me: vacation and childbirth
VO: childbirth is for your wife and not you, right
Me: yes ( with a smile)
VO: do you have doctor correspondence?
Me: yes ( I gave him email correspondence with hospital, letter of medical responsibility and 2-receipts from hospital & Ob/Gyn Doctor of 50% down payment for Hospital and for Physician bills).
VO: he read them
VO: your account statement ?
Me: I gave him
VO: (he left his seat with the account statement, spend about 3-mins and came back, and started typing for about 1-min)
VO: we will contact you later, don't pay any money, don't reapply.. We will contact you after further administrative processes t(he took only my bank statement and return other document to me) he also issue us a paper (221g) and mark the part that concern us,

The part marked says ," additional administrative processing is required. No further action on your part necessary. Consular section will contact you when the case is ready"

1) Pls VO, do you know how long the administrative process will take?
2) Do u know if they will consider our dec 9th departure date to US, and our doctor appointment date dec 11th?

My account statement in my previous interview was low, due to dubai trip with my family. But in this interview as a permanent staff of and oil & gas firm in PH, I used my current acct statement so as to show source of my monthly income, I was able to maintain btw 2.7 to 5.2 for the 4-months statement..
