Dear VO,

My husband's interview (LGS2014651001) was November 14 and we were put in administrative processing, but no additional information was requested on the form he was given. I brought my dad, children, stepmom, and cousin to wedding. My husband even met all my family before we married. I have made numerous trips to Nigeria. I am quite confused. My husband did have a previous petition, but it was withdrawn. Is that the problem? Please help me understand what additional information the embassy is looking for in our petition.

Thank you for even taking the time to read my request.

Hello Ma,

I applied for a B1/B2 visa twice and was denied on grounds that I don't have strong ties here in Nigeria, all in Us embassy Abuja.I never changed any information in my DS160.First was to visit my fiance who is US citizen,My wedding was to be held in July 2014 but denied the 2nd time.we pushed the wedding to September here in Nigeria.I applied for another visa interview to visit my husband and get to meet his family this holiday season. My interview date was 22 Oct. 2014,after the interview ,the consular took my husband's biodata page,my marriage certificate and my passport,I was given a slip stating that my case needs additional administrative processing.its almost 1month now and no word from the embassy. Is there a way to expediate this as my husband is worried. Here is my case number AA004EKSBI.
Hope to hear from you soon and thanks for the good job you doing here.God bless

Dear VO,
Thanks for taking the time once again to read this post, its well and greatly appreiated.
this was on 23rd of October
Adeyinka2014:
Good evening visa officer, thanks so much for taking the time out to answer questions, really much appreciated. My question is this, my husband filed an immigrant visa petition for me in 2012, it was approved by USCIS, but I was denied a visa at the visa interview in lagos. I was told I was eligible to file for an i601 waiver on grounds of inadmissibility, we have since filed the i601 waiver, and the waiver was Approved on the 13th of August 2014. I was also mailed a confirmation notice of approval, which indicated that all processing by USCIS was now complete, And we should wait for the us consulate to contact us. It's been a little over 2 months now, and we are yet to hear from the us consulate in lagos. I sent an email about a month ago to lagosIV@state.gov, indicating my email address and contact phone nos. I just wanted to know if it usually takes this long, or if they had been trying to reach me. Thanks

This was your response

VisaOfficer:

Hmm. When we receive waiver approval notifications, we update the case notes and contact the beneficiaries... so I don't know why you haven't been contacted. Could you e-mail us at LagosIV@state.gov and mention your case number and Nairaland (so it gets forwarded appropriately)?

After which I sent an email to LagosIv@state.gov, mentioning Nairaland, and also updating my contact information with the embassy, but I got no response at all. It's been over three months since the approval of the i601. Please I would appreciate any help given as I am confused as to why its taking this long.
Thanks so very much and God bless

Its just so frustrating been placed on administrative review without knowing how long it takes. The long process at USCIS and NVC stages was enough to kill and now going on Administrative review is torturing. If it was possible for me and my spouse to have spent enough time together he would have done it but his present situation won't make that possible which i explained to the CO but she insisted on putting our case on AP, the whole situation is affecting my spouse's health and i don't want something bad to happen. Am sorry for ranting, i just can't hold my emotions.

We did submitted the contact sheet on Friday and we didn't receive any email telling us of any further step. Please ma kindly help us check if the contact sheet has been added to our case. LGS2014643058. Please ma, am sure if you take a look at our file you will be able to tell us the next step or give us an estimate of how long we have to wait.

Lizzy pls call me...i lost all my contacts cos my fone was faulty, thanks.

Greetings VO
Please is it a MUST to Pay the $165 to USCIS for work permit before Traveling? Can't it be done when Someone gets to the u.s?
Thanks

It's a strong SHOULD. USCIS won't issue your Legal Permanent Resident card until you pay the $165. Bt, technically, you can enter the U.S. before you pay the fee. You're supposed to pay it before you travel, though.

Dear visaofficer, please ma, my daughter and I came for our immigrant visa interview on the 24th of september,2014.ma we were told to do a DNA test, ma after the US embassy get the result will our visa be approved ma,my daughter case number is LGS2014555019 while mine is LGS2014597022, thank you ma and God bless you.

Assuming all else is well and your medical reports / police certificates haven't expired, a positive DNA outcome should lead to visa issuance.

I have to say I'm getting a little uncomfortable with being asked about specific cases in this forum. Really specific cases that necessitate the sharing of people's case numbers should be directed to LagosIV@state.gov. That's because not all cases are as straightforward as yours appears to be. On some rare occasions, Nairalanders are asking questions about their specific cases when I'm privy to information associated with their cases that I would never discuss in a public forum. So it's impossible for me to provide a candid answer, because I'm privy to more information than the person has shared online. Thus, I'm going to attempt to bring this forum back to a more general level -- answering the questions asked, but not looking up the specific cases unless there's a compelling reason to do so. I hope everyone's understanding about that. Thanks!

hello my name is oluwayemisi ojo..... m an immigrant here in the united state, trying to bring my husband in from nigeria... but it happened that he has married before and he has gone through visa lottery... now he is divorced with his ex and the divorced paper he presented at the embassy is fake according to wat he was told at the us consolate in lagos...so he was told that the case will b return to NVC.. That it will remain pending under section 221(g) of immigration and nationality act. so pls wat can i do to re open the case. Because am all alone with my daughter and my daughter really need her father here, so please i need to know wat to do so dat he can join his wife and his daughter in USA.

Sounds like your husband needs to divorce his first wife properly and remarry you so that you can file a new I-130; or, if his Diversity Visa marriage was a sham and that's why his documents aren't real, he should tell us so honestly so that we can figure out what his next steps are. If it was a sham marriage, he'll likely be found ineligible under INA 212(a)(6)(C)(i) for material misrepresentation, but then he can apply for a waiver of the ineligibility and move forward.

Aside from the fact that that petition would have expired years ago, under U.S. law (8 CFR 205.1), upon written notice of withdrawal filed by the petitioner, the approval of an immediate relative or other family-sponsored petition (other than Amerasian petitions) is automatically revoked as of the date of approval, and the petition cannot be reinstated. So the petitioner would need to file a new petition on your behalf.

please c.o, if my sister file for me, i want to know if my wife and my son will also be benefitted from it? also, my mother will be joining my sister soon please, how long does it take my mother to file for me and my family? and which one will be more faster between my sister and my mother?

Greetings! The waiting time for sibling petitions is running around 12 years, and you can include your wife and son as derivatives. Because you are married, your mother cannot file for you until she becomes a citizen, which will take around five years; and the waiting time for married children of U.S. citizens is running around seven years at present. So the waiting time is about the same in either case.

JASM:
Hi VisaOfficer,

I am new to nairaland and have been monitoring this thread for a couple of weeks now before joining. I never thought I would have to post on here asking for assistance, but at this point I don't know what to do.

... I'm not sure what the status of our case is at this point. From what I understand he wasn't told it was denied, but I don't think it was approved either. When I check the website it says "Administrative Processing" which I know is the status of the case after the interview. If possible, would you mind checking on our case when you have a moment to let me know the decision reached by the consulate? LGS2014774001.

I'm hoping for guidance in either way the decision has gone. We are willing to take whatever the next steps are, but at this point I don't know who I should be contacting. I apologize for the lengthy entry and I look forward to your reply.

Thank you

Hi JASM,

When a Consular officer is not convinced that a K1, IR1, or CR1 relationship is bona fide, the petition is returned to USCIS with a memo explaining the officer's findings. The cases remain in "administrative processing" status because they are still open pending action by USCIS. In IR1 and CR1 cases, USCIS will contact the petitioner and ask for more information. Unfortunately, because K1 petitions are only valid for four months, USCIS usually does not contact K1 petitioners. Instead, the petitioners can file a new petition if they so desire. You can reach out to USCIS directly if you feel you can present a compelling argument as to why they should reaffirm the K petition, but if it has already expired, they usually will not do so. I hope this information helps.

Hello good afternoon to you ma,

My name is Mrs Flora Jean Olasupo a US Citizen and a petitioner of a Nigerian spouse, I am very new on here my husband asked me to join the forum to read people's Immigration experiences or in case I have any questions so this will be my first question on the forum, I called NVC last night 14th November and I was told our case is complete but I will like to know how soon he will get a date this is our case number (LGS2013560001) because am planning to travel there during his interview or before, the waiting period is really killing me, I've been crying so much lately I am missing my husband so bad. I was even planning to move there with him or we move somewhere else but now that our case is moving forward we will have to suspend that, the attorney we hired wasted our time and money but we withdrew them anyways so we want to do the final stage ourself. thank you very much ma I will be looking forward to your answer.

NVC is currently scheduling January appointments, so if your case is complete, you have a good chance of being scheduled in January or February.

Good evening ma. I have been following your thread for a while now finally got the confidence to post lol I want to thank you for your work here on NL from all i have read you really are a huge help to visa applicants worldwide. I came across your thread while trying to find info on the visa process i honestly didn't think the consular officers were allowed to discuss visa issues outside the embassy i thought it was "forbidden" lol well my fiance applied for the k1 visa for me and we got our noa2 September 18th my case number is LGS2014758022. We were asked to get our medicals and police certificate ready before the embassy in Lagos contacts us i am scheduled to do the medicals the 24th and we already have the police certificate. My question is what is our status currently, i am curious and somewhat worried too. thank you Ma for your response.

Hi! Yes, we've finally started to use social media to get our messages out. It's an exciting time to be a Consular officer!

Your fiance should have received an e-mail which begins: "The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos is ready to begin final processing of your approved K1 visa petition. Kindly request your fiance/fiancee (the applicant) to visit any branch of Guaranty Trust Bank PLC in Nigeria to pay the K1 visa processing fee of $265; and after that, follow the instructions for fiance/fiancee visa applicants attached to this email." If not, please e-mail us at LagosIV@state.gov and ask how to make an appointment. Thanks!

This I must say its a trailblazing act by the titan woman and the more enlightened once who are helping we green horns on this application of K1 visa n who have selflessly put it upon themselves to help two hearts that beat as one reunit. Well I have something Ma'm and people who are more enlightened than I am on this, that's bothering me and that is what are the documents, both supporting documents to be submitted for K1 visa by the beneficiary. I would want to apply next year. Thank you Ma'm. And do I have to also get my account statement? Please I wish I could be helped here.

Thank you for your kind words! Every relationship is different, so bring whatever you have. The most important thing will be how you talk about the relationship -- whether you are able to answer questions credibly, and not just quote memorized information. We don't expect you to know every single detail about your fiance(e), but you should be able to talk with us the same way you'd be able to tell an old friend about the relationship. The beneficiary does not need to show any financial documents, by the way.

I intend to get this ready due to my work schedule which wont permit me have all the time to do all these within a short time because I work in PH and have already spent my annual leave and till November 2015 before I will be due for another one so I think since the Police certificate will last for 1 year as against the 3 months on it. Well, I can't speak for Ethiopia, and I don't know the details of your case, so you should ask them. But I can tell you that if a person has EVER received any time of immigration benefit as an adopted child, that person can never obtain any type of immigration benefit for or from his or her biological parents afterward.

I remember that you wrote that the case is in Ethiopia?
