The wife should be thanking God instead of being envious.

Love and jealousy are two emotions as different as night and day and one cannot imagine them in the same sentence and yet we constantly hear of people who are jealous of their partner’s success. Born of low self-esteem, this feeling usually starts out as possessiveness, especially when the perpetrator inwardly feels unworthy to have such a partner and wants to keep them dependent on them.

Why should she be jealous, is the husband's promotion not for the good of the family? Are they in any form of competition

She's supposed to be happy and supportive of her husband.

Anybody can be envious of another's success, how you go about it depends on the kind of person you are and the relationship you have with who you envy.

I know a lady whose husband was promoted as a project manager in an oil and gas company in Canada. The guy called us to come and celebrate with him because within two months of landing in Canada he got a job in the company that promoted him within 6 months of working with them. The wife on the other hand has been in Canada for 5 years. She initially came to study for her masters. When she finished her studies, she tried to get her permanent residency through Canadian Experience but she was told she did not have enough experience. She was advised to do menial jobs in order to get her papers, which she did. She got her papers through that avenue. She tried getting a job in her field but she has not gotten any yet only data entry or customer service jobs. She brought the husband to Canada and within 2 months of coming to Canada the guy got a job.
On the day of the celebration, she was complaining bitterly. She compared herself to her husband saying the guy does not even have masters. This surprised me. Can a wife be envious of her husband?

Well I think its okay to feel slightly envious (emphasis on slightly) but she must watch it! She must not give the devil (if any) a chance.

Sugar-coating an obvious malaise wouldn't solve it, would it ? wink

"she was complaining bitterly. She compared herself to her husband saying the guy does not even have masters."

You know she's not slightly envious.. She's burning inside... if not , she wouldn't have made those comments infront of other people....

But yeah, you wouldn't admit 100% to what I just said.

Yes, Sophy09. A wife can be and vice-versa.

Ahhh, Yes oooo. It happens very well. Especially when both of them are working class people and it is so prevalent these days. My friend was making the same complain to me, how his wife had a fight with him and was openly telling him they are in competition. Anytime properties are bought, she wants the property in her name. Immediately the guy began his Masters programme, she was feeling very uneasy and insisting she wants to begin too. I really wonder what marriages are turning into.
Re: Can A Wife Be Envious Of Her Husband's Success? by dollarlander: 12:14pm On Jan 07, 2015
Yes.

There are some wives that will never want the husband to move higher than them in life. They can go diabolical to put the man under their feet.

Pray that your children will not marry in such families. Go to southwest part of Nigeria and carry out a deep case study you will be surprised.

They are not married. There must be some other explanation and my hunch says its one of these arrangee-get-out-of-nigeria schemes.
