No problem. It's perfectly normal to be naive, as you put it! We officers deal with these cases every day, so sometimes we forget that the rest of the world isn't so familiar with all our acronyms and strange terms and form numbers. It's always good to ask if you have questions.

Sixty days is a best-case scenario; many cases, unfortunately, take longer. Feel free to e-mail us periodically for status updates. We may not be able to say much (such is the nature of administrative processing) but sometimes we can reply with something more substantive.

Whether the attorney, the petitioner, or the beneficiary contacts us about the case, the answer given will be the same. So there's no need, really, to have an attorney contact us.

Happy New Year Consular officer.
Please i have been a silent follower of this thread and i will say i have gained a lot of things from questions asked here and your responses here..you are doing a great job.

I have a situation at hand.
i am billed to attend a global partnership summit in New York this July 2015 of an international NGO which i belong to and i want to apply for a visa for the summit but i want my wife to go along with me.she is not a member of the NGO and i just recently returned from a world congress meeting in Germany of this same NGO,i have good travel history of Europe-Germany,Holland,Turkey,Belgium and France (excluding UK),Dubai,South Africa,Ghana and my wife has been to Dubai and Ghana too.

what is the possibility of me and my spouse being issued visa as i am going for a business summit but wish to have her around for us to have extra days of vacation after the summit...what will be the best scenario..or do i forget about applying for both of us via the business summit and just apply for holiday while still using it to attend my business summit.Remember my aim of applying for visa is for the summit but wish to carry my wife along.

Please your urgent response is needed as i am about booking for interview date.
Thanks

Based on what you've written, there's not enough information for me to answer your inquiry. The answer is probably that we'll contact you when the case is ready to move forward.

This is a question for my non-immigrant visa colleagues at https://www.nairaland.com/1792662/u.s-non-immigrant-visas-listening . But they do not hazard guesses as to the chances of individual applicants. There are too many factors involved in every visa application to make a guess based on what someone writes online.

I don't mean to sound rude or nasty but i just feel like saying my mind. I feel the innocent ones with genuine intentions are just been punished unjustly. There are some people with good and perfect documents to show as evidence, there are some people who even spend lots of times together as couples but at the long run, their aim is all for the immigration benefits. And there are genuine couples that have not been able to spend more time together as couple based on some situations and conditions beyond their control or maybe their case may not look too good and perfect.

Am not teaching you your job or forcing you to go against the embassy's rules and regulations but i know you know my case very well. Me and my husband have a genuine marriage, his never been married before and this is his first marriage, we both want to have kids desperately, we have been waiting all this years of our lives to have that dream come true but the hopes and dreams are been put on hold. His health conditions have prevented him from flying down to Nigeria and we can't meet in a third country like we did before because we can't afford it.

I know you have a kind heart and you are greatly blessed by God, because you are God sent to us in Nigeria, you can help go thru our case file yourself and if you need any additional documents to help process our case, me and my husband will gladly send it to you.

I know and understand that you don't comment on individual cases on Administrative Processing, but i know God can use you to help us.

Am so sorry for my long post, am so sorry for my continous inquiry and plea, am so sorry for getting on your nerves.

VisaOfficer:
Good morning, everyone! It looks like our previous thread was a casualty of the recent data loss, so I'm starting a new thread here. Nairaland, I missed you and am glad you're back!

I am a U.S. Foreign Service Officer working at the U.S. Consulate in Lagos, Nigeria, primarily handling Immigrant Visas and Diversity Visas (IVs and DVs). The purpose of this thread is to provide a forum for your questions about these types of visas. My colleagues and I will make every effort to answer all questions within two business days.

Please note that we cannot answer questions about specific cases, except as based on the information provided here in this discussion thread. Any responses in this forum are not to be taken as legally binding, as they will be based only on what you tell us in your questions, not on the information in any actual case. While we will attempt to explain U.S. immigration policies, any opinions expressed are the personal views of the writer, and do not necessarily reflect the views of the United States Government.

We may not be able to respond to every post in this thread, and we will not answer abusive posts. Also, please don't send me private messages -- I don't even read them. If you need personal attention, please send an e-mail to LagosIV@state.gov.

There is a separate thread for Non-Immigrant Visa Questions, also handled by U.S. Foreign Service Officers serving in Nigeria, at https://www.nairaland.com/1792662/u.s-non-immigrant-visas-listening . Please use this thread right here solely for questions about Immigrant Visas and Diversity Visas.

All the best,

Hello visaofficer, nvc have informed me that my documents are complete and will inform me on the date of interview. How soon do u think I can be scheduled for my immigrant visa ffiled by my husband?
Re: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by trevor443: 4:53pm On Jan 10, 2015
VisaOfficer:

Good news! Once you naturalize, your wife's visa category will change from F2A to CR1. And there's no wait time for the CR1! So as soon as you have your naturalization certificate, you should let NVC know. Their contact information is available at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/nvc/nvc-contact-information.html - please note the special link for submitting documents.

Phew, that's a relief! Thanks so much VO! I had already prepared a form I-129F (Petition for Alien Fiance(e)) for a K-3 visa, because I don't know what the time frame is between when I send a notification of my naturalization to NVC to when my wife will be invited for an interview at the Lagos consular office. Do you advice I hold off on the K-3 visa application? What is the estimated length of time the entire process is going to take before she gets here, please? Her case number is LGS2014642007.

So many thanks for what you do.
