In the wake of the 2face scandal, I don't understand what the big deal about the pictures are.

Hence I would like to pose this question.

Must a married man be monogamous?

our forefathers were polygamists, women agreed to be married to men who were already committed to other women…. what is the big deal about 2face with his baby mama. If he was yoruba and Muslim, he is allowed up to 4 wives… I think we should all stop being hypocrites and leave this man alone.

Is that what he and his wife agreed on? If yes, then the answer is yes.

As a christian told to stay away from adultery when married and be a man having one wife, Yes you are to be monogamous.

To keep his wife happy and frustration-free, yes!

Does one live to keep his wife happy or make himself happy?

My brother, that is what such women think - always at the mercy of men and they can't help it.

You didn't notice the sarcasm in my comment I presume grin

In the begining it was one man one woman, and I think it should remain so.

It gives peace of mind and makes a man live longer.

No he doesn't live to keep his wife happy.
Neither does his wife live to keep him happy.

If having extra women will make him happy, then fine.
If extra men will make the wife happy, fine too.
As long they are both happy, it doesn't matter what they do to each other and how they treat each other to achieve their personal selfish happiness.

Why compare forefathers and mothers with people of today? are they people having the same orientation?

Do you see a man having several baby mamas as a responsible man?

I'd disagree with a married man being under compulsion to be monogamous. However,

Its a simple yes or no question. why the long grammer? Will you honestly give out your daughter in marriage to a man who has baby mamas?

Thats also like asking if a wife lives to keep her husband happy, rather than keep herself happy (at the detriment of her spouse's happiness). Does such a scenerio look good to you then? undecided

To your question, polygamy is not a crime in our nigerian society. That said, the ability of a married man to become polygamous depends solely on the kind of marriage he had contracted with his wife. If it is a customary or muslim marriage, he has the right to marry more wives (not exceeding four at a time for muslim marriage). But if it is either a court or christian marriage, polygamy is wholly prohibited.

However, even with regards to court & christian marriages, the man might still be able to indulge in polygamy only if his wife doesnt object to such or supports such for the husband.

N.B: My post relates only to where the man desires a peaceful polygamous home; not a rancourous one.

Even people that wed in church will still argue with you. Look at the Op na. He is one of them. When they are saying their vows, isnt faithfulness included?

But there has to be a happy medium for happiness. I don't think anyone should sacrifice their happiness or identity because of marriage.

Christianity does not preclude polygamy. God doesn't frown at polygamy. By the way, happiness is selfish.

@obowunmi, marriage is a contract and every valid contract must be honoured unless either of the party to the agreement wants trouble.

Thus, you cant enter into an agreement with your two eyes open and think you can just alter same whenever you so wish without first seeking for the consent & approval of the other party.

That is why i said some marriage contracts permit polygamy and some dont. Thus, a man that has always had the intent to be polygamous must endeavour to either enter into the marriage contract that best suits his polygamous desire from the outset or seek the approval of his wife to do so (if his marriage contract doesnt support such).
