My experience at the NACC was splendid, I was about searching for accommodation when I was elected as the State President ,and one of the rules is that all officials must reside in the family house, I had no option than to accept my fate "God's willing" no regret at all ,the fellowship really built my spiritual growth, I travelled a lot as the State president ,the first state I travelled to was Ogun state and that was the first time of visiting west,I also travelled to Ekiti ,Ondo, kogi, bayelsa, delta,IMO etc all for National meetings, conference and convention. The rules in the house was hell but with time you have to adapt to it.we have so many games at our disposal for our leisure such as football, table tennis,Ludo,Scramble, etc with lots of fire from Priests .it really build my leadership quality. Thou combining my position as the state and provincial President with my PPA wasn't easy but I really cope well trying to get the right chemical balance as an industrial Chemist., the most challenging moment was accommodating the new otondos after camp cox their number is so large and they are entitled to 3day free feeding.I really enjoyed my Nysc days thou I loose a lot of weight but God really bless me after my Nysc.

Last night I took a trip down memory lane. I couldn’t help but smile at my experience: the good, bad, ugly and dirty! I’m not much of a writer, but somehow I just wish I can pen down everything in details.

Last time I checked, it’s almost two (2) weeks to sum it up to year I had my POP. I decided to share a few reasons for prospective corps members who haven’t made up their minds about accommodation ish, and why you should consider staying in family house. Mind you, there are stringent rules to be obeyed, but then I kinda feel the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages for a corper relying on your allowee.

Coming from someone who stayed both in the family house and corper’s lodge for a reasonable length of time, I see the following reasons as advantages one can benefit from.

(1) SPIRITUAL GROWTH: For a graduate with Christian upbringing and who honestly wants to live a Christ-like life, the family house is the best place you can think of. Prayers and worship are usually not less than twice in a day.

(2) LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE: As a member of family house, you may be elected for various offices such as the President, Vice President, Secretary-General, PRO, Treasurer etc. You stand to gain a whole lot from such leadership pedestal. Such leadership positions can be written on your CV and the activities involved could be referenced during behavioural interviews.
In addition, all the CLO during my service year were staying in the family house.

(3) FIRST-HAND INFORMATION: This is sequel to point (2) above. The CLO is a corps liaison officer. Information on clearance, POP date & venue, NYSC-related matters, etc passes from the CLO to the immediate occupants of the family house before it gets to the ‘Ordinary Corper’ in the same village/town.

(4) SAFETY: Family houses are safe to a reasonable extent. There are rules to be kept to ensure everyone’s safety.

(5) CULINARY AND HANDCRAFT SKILLS: This is where we know the potential wife materials, lol. There are ladies on the cooking roster that you just wish they could be made to cook every day! They cook so well that you can’t help but beg for more. On the other hand, there are names you see on duty and be like ‘’guy, make I reach Express chop, na Princess dey kitchen today o!
The good thing is you will be made jest of, but in the long run, you must learn. Also, anyone who is eager to learn bead making, wire works, and all that ish is opportune to learn, most times for free!

(6) HAVEN FOR NURSING MOTHERS: There are willing corpers who would happily babysit your cute baby while you sleep, wash or go out.

(7) RELATIVELY CHEAP: With monthly subscription fee ranging from N4,000 to N6,000, depending on your location, you are guaranteed a decent two-square meal and a place to sleep. Just move in with your clothes, toiletries, laptop, etc. You need not bother about buying pots, stove, palm oil, and general foodstuff. Just subscribe and enjoy. You can get your personal provisions though.

(cool REFERRALS: Staying in family house means you’ll be present in church often and also join the youths in various activities. You get to be seen by people and trust me, you never can tell who’s WHO amongst the congregation.

(9) YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE: This is self-explanatory, wherever you wanna go, even if it’s just a casual stroll, there’s always someone interested in same thing. Just make sure if you are a guy, you don’t always hang out with a particular girl, cos everyone will assume you two are dating. Bottom line is wonderful friendship is established there.
There are entertainment gadgets like TV, DVD, GoTV or games to add fun to your stay.

(10) POST-NYSC: You could always show up at the family house even after POP. Maybe you need a place to stay for that important interview or aptitude test, you don’t have to feel stranded.
Nice post. In addition

I was in batch A. 'All the CLO stayed in FH' means that the CLO before my batch and the newly elected one when we were about passing out. Can't say who's the CLO now.

Someone reading your post would assume that it applies to all CLOs (especially as you said it will guarantee family house members access to information). Personally, in my experience most Corpers staying in rural areas do not stay in family houses (it applies more to urban centres).
In my case the CLO in my batch did not stay in any of the family houses and the one after him was a muslim and also did not stay in a family house.

There were so many people like u in d FH but learnt how to adjust.

The reason for mama nd papa in FH is d reason why we have MD's nd manager in companies so that people can follow instructions not because u'r age mates but because the're superior.

I never thought I could even stay a week in d FH but learnt how to deal with so many people, cos it was fun just like d op has said,I had a house but refused to leave...Different people from different background

Wonderful experience.

Not to forget the compulsory corporate dressing why coming to Genco or subgenco meeting.
And the genco way of greeting which when miss you are ask to start again until you get it right.....
Serve at nccf but never stayed in the family house due to the distance to my ppa.
Kudos to all the Gs in the house...... Repping OYO kopa, Ibadan south Zone, IDO local government and finally APATA Unit......... Do you love this family?

was on a Sunday. I go high with some other "rebels".

I'm a first child, not used to taking orders especially when I know we're "mates" cheesy
Family house is a training ground,it is also not meant for everybody.first born or no first born, every situation you find yourself actually prepares you for what lies ahead.if by chance, you find yourself under the leadership of your class mate or age mate and he is been a jerk, will you want to throw punches?i was opportuned to serve as the ass.zonal cordinator(mama)of two zones&my zonal cordinator(papa)was by far younger than me.during our leadership training,i was told i had to serve him his meals like i would do my real husband.i had a choice to rebel or learn,i choose the latter and it helped.i learnt submissiveness.but like i earlier said, family house is not for everyone and btw,i am the first born with three stubborn, sweet brothers so been submissive was never part of my growing up.

Sist those rules are not meant just for u but for others also. Yes its better you don't bring in some of the hidden things u do outside to the family house, so as not to negatively influence some innocent minds that may be present. Trust me, u don't want to be the one to lead others to temptation.

The family house experience is so cool. They helped me a lot when I was redeployed with not much money and no acquaintance. Free flow of useful infoo among corps members and a way to encourage your spirituality. Served in North West '06/07. I even had the rare opportunity to participate in a 2-day Rural Rugged programme in one village like that in d North. Went in a canter truck and offered a lot of medical and financial assistance to the village. ''Higher and higher we will go... I love the way u... yes I love u with the love of the Lord''

I beg to differ, as long as their rules were concerned, I didn't break any. Fellowships aren't compulsory, it was never stated in their rules so I was free to do as I pleased. The dude just wanted to flex his nccf muscles. He saw me at shoprite some weeks later buying alcohol(which were prohibited in the house grin) I prayed to everything for that nigger to mistakenly approach me and spill bulllshiiit grin. I've never wished for a fight so badly cheesy cheesy had this urge to smash something on his head

The Op is right, but the fact is that not everyone will stay in the family house because priority differs. Before I went for service I never knew such settings existed, but I ended up staying there and serving as TOS(Transport and Organising Secrtary) Eket Zone, Akwa Ibom. The truth is that staying in the family house will help one in so many ways, I love my privacy, but when it became obvious that it was the way God wanted my service year to be, I had to give in and stay there despite all my efforts to do otherwise. The most important thing is this, NCCF or no NCCF what is your relationship with God like? Are you willing to serve God diligently throughout your service or you wana 'have fun' and enjoy life like majority of us thinks? Nccf is only there to help you spiritually if you know that you can fall when you are on ya own, allowing the pleasures of your host environment to swallow you. Wherever you decide to stay, live a life of witness for Jesus, that's the most important thing.
#Do you really love this family?grin cool

chubby don't get me wrong o, I'm not a disrespectful person, there are ways you talk to a person without offending the person. If they were all like the papa(very respectful dude) I could have considered staying. I'm not the only one that left and people are still leaving, clearly something is wrong somewhere. These excos see themselves as mini gods,(bcoz one is an exco, I should let him bath first coz I should be the one to be late and not him? And bcoz he's an exco and I see him using my slippers, I should go and buy another one?) I just couldn't take it. Tomorrow if I find myself under my age mate, I'd definitely know how to behave. This one is nysc, there's absolutely nothing they can teach me in one year that my parents have not taught me.
