As someone who has spent extensive time handling vehicles equipped with both transmissions...i will stick with a manual .There is this satisfaction i derive from shifting close to the Redline on highways that only comes with a manual. A stick shift involves you in the whole experience. To be honest, it can be tiring to drive a vehicle with a heavy clutch in intense traffic gridlocks but that's a cross i am willing to bear.. I know a dual clutch automatic may be faster than a traditional manual transmission but i will still go for a manual either way.

I drive both! But mehn correct automatic can give you heavenly feelings.... Imagine driving at 120km/h and suddenly depressing the 'pedal' to metal, at that moment the car will down shift to gear 3 and you'll feel as if you press a turbo button, watching the accelerometer rising to to 5-6 RPM/minute. ... *imagine that feeling*
I knw that feeling.. I love the engine sound too .. And I would be like 'let's fly baby' cheesy

A friend of mine said manual is outdated, there's no need of learning how to drive one but unfortunately for him
a lady he was having crush for was giving a brand new manual picanto, she called my friend to drive the car home for her,
that was how he embarrassed himself he Just couldn't move the car and had to call me
Its better to learn manual as a fresher,

Op pls ignore all these advice of learning manua transmission first. Automatic transmission is even on its way out with fully computer controlled transmission as seenin in high end bmw and mercedes.

I drive a Merc C Class Automatic transmission, with this car, I don't give up on the road, I trust my kick down, I will embarrass you with your .5million naira car , the car is balance and always give me confidence ..I know my car, I don't joke with it...

I have dulled many drivers on the road... Driving requires , intelligence ,mind, confidence, and calculation... I just love driving..

i will say manual are just more rugged and are cheaper to maintain, also it is fun changing the gear yourself on the high way but a very stressful work in the hold up around the city traffic, give me any and i will drive it perfectly.

The advent of automatic transmission was as a result of people with disabilities i.e people with one leg nd one hand so that they too can have the opportunity of driving cars. This later improved as Technological advancement came to play.

As for me I can drive either nd even Auto has a way of downshifting, for those that know how to do it. All things being equal, so u don't have to necessarily allow d machine determine ur momentum.

I enjoy driving manual more than auto. Auto most times make me feel like driving a toy but with manual I feel totally in charge and in control.

Mr man, go and learn how to drive from scratch. I learnt with a manual stick and I drove manual sticks for 15 years before I got my first automatic stick. Right now, my wife uses the 2 automatic sticks while I use the only manual stick in the house. There are things I can do with a manual stick which you cannot get with an automatic stick.

Why do you think F1 and motor rally cars are made with manual sticks?

Are u sure F1 cars are driven with manual sticks

Even of F1 cars are fitted with manual sticks, ask him whether he drives an F1 car. Some people just like forming James Bond.

LOLZ grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

From what i see on tv, the cars are driven via a controller with the driver selecting gears as he moves
However the progression is automatic

I strongly disagree with you on this. the number of manual equipped vehicles will reduce but they are not disappearing anytime soon. there r some cars that come with a manual transmission only Eg: the dodge viper.
Honestly i understand where u are coming from ..i used to drive a manual car before , but i accidently tried an automatic car since i have not turned back ..and i will not go back ...it was like i was free from slavery or bondage .
most car manufacture are now designing dual gear box -i think its called triptronic gearbox where you can switch to the manual or automatic depending on the road conditions , i had it it in my toyota avensis 2003 .
for a place like Nigeria , automatic gear box will be ideal ..because our commuter and local roads are just too bad .
The only down side of an automatic gear box it takes more petrol and if it breakdown its hards to fix or report ..but saying that most manufacturere now giĀ“ve 10 years guarantee ..
have u tried an automatic car before ?

Manual gear cars in 2015 lipsrsealed

Ejighi afufu anya isi grin

Manual gear is outdated though cheaper to buy. We ve more stress to deal wit in naija can't make manual drivin in traffic one of them

I hope manual gear fans dnt attack me for this

grin

I can't accept a manual car even if it is for free lipsrsealed

Cars with manual transmission are great for me. I have driven long distances with a manual and automatic drive vehicles and believe, I enjoy the driving experience with the manual transmission. If you find driving a car with manual transmission too stressful for you, then you are yet to feel the driving experience.

Anytime I drive cars with automatic gearboxes, I feel like I'm missing something, like I'm not an F1 driver...one should feel like Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, et cetera when one drives. But no go kill yourself o. Nneka123 ...you don hear? cheesy
hahhaa grin, i drive an automatic too, because it's easier and less stressful, it didn't take me long to learn how to drive cheesy

Nothing beats a stick shift, I don't want a car deciding when to change gears for me when m not brain dead, I mean don't u like the feel of being in control?

Anyone who says otherwise hasn't pushed a manual tranny car hard in gear 3, if u hv then u knw u can't get that heavenly feeling in auto

#TeamManual

Exactly. Been in control when driving is what one can never get when driving a vehicle with automatic transmission.
