Are you Christian?

Technically. But I'm a black man before any religion.

My blackness/Africanness is my true religion...with the most high watching over me. grin

Lol. You're a weirdo. grin

Apart from reggae, which is one of my favourite genres, including all the other sounds from the Caribbean (calypso, bashment, soca, reggaeton et al) - I can't relate to the other weird genres you're into. Gatts stick to hiphop, Fela Kuti, grime, garage, soft rock, R & B, Jazz, and soul music. I fvcks with country music sometimes as well.

People dont usually listen to my Ipod because the songs are weird to them but it does give me inspiration.

Enjoy cool

That's fresh - I like it.

It sounds like soul meets jazz, with some classical flavour.

Something a bit like this one, with just the guitar:

Decent.

Let me give you some jazz by one of my favourite female artists out there, that isn't Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys.

Enjoy the beautiful Esperanza Spalding - black gold.

Lol. You know I'm a very observant student and I tend to learn very fast. And also, I've been here for three years - so you should know I'm acquainted with a lot about Nigeria/Yoruba history and politics. Err, apart from the Kiriji wars, when Ijebus were shrewd businessman and dominated the sea coast and trade - the genesis of the anti-Ijebu folklore. How many Ijebus are two-faced? Erm, who betrayed Awolowo, an Ijebu man? - they're from Oyo and Egba (two prominent Egba son). I'm sure you know Wole Soyinka, Tai Solarin, and Abraham Adesanya are also Ijebus...and I believe they're the three of the most upright Yoruba realists ever. You can't be braver and more upstanding than these men - that's the Ijebu spirit.
Moreover, who did the Tinubu man call the most loyal Yoruba King who never took bribe from anyone to sell out anyone? - Awujale of Ijebu. I'm just being honest here cos I've got some Egba blood flowing in my veins and arteries.

Soyinka cant be categorically called an Ijebu man. Because he is 50% Ijebu and 50% egba who was raised and still lives in Egbaland.
But am just telling you the eyes in which the other Yoruba subgroups see the Ijebus. Every time someone comes with how Ijebus are bad and how one should be cautious with them, I ask them why they have that notion, and the stories that follow are not so nice stories, whether its a propaganda or not, I really cant say. But I can tell you that 90% of my family's association with an Ijebu hasn't end well at all. Notwithstanding, I don't go around saying all ijebus are bad, neither would I say they are the most upright people, keeping in mind that I believe in individuality and not lumping people together under one general opinion.
Every tribe and subgroup have their unpopular sides.

Oh, okay. I thought it's a Pentecostal Church, hence I grouped it with Creflo Dollar, and the rest. Baptist Church is old...that's the black Church in America. MLK was also a Pastor there - Ebenezer Baptist Church.
thats a pretty popular baptist church name. Almost every town in nigeria has its own Ebenezer Baptist church.

Lol. Their style of speaking in tongues is different, with folks shaking and crip-walking with one leg. And they always have a message to give loool. Darn! That was the ish back then - the longest Church service ever, with a lot of dancing and merry-makinggrin
lol.... I know right. There was one close to my house then, the shortest service they ever had, ended at 3pm. When my church would normally close at 12pm.

This is the ranking: http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2013/dec/03/pisa-results-country-best-reading-maths-science They're a highly educated group, though I can't stand them cos they're racists.

So, you dated a few Polish guys, no? - bwahahaha. Dem nyggahs wouldn't be able to handle all the junk in ya trunk. And stop crossing out my post, you still owe me different shots of that thang. Yesterday, I also heard that Egba women have the biggest badonkadonk per ratio among Yorubas, how true is that?
You know what they say, once you go black....
Chocolate trumps vanilla.
Dunno about Egbas and badonkadonk, I havent noticed that.

Dolly parton angry angry

Not two faced, but most times I wonder what the beef is with ijebus. Especially the Ondos/Ekiti, the hatred is something else. Not really someone that loves stereotypes but I have realized that if we can have a liberal mind we would see beyond those stereotypes. The day I mentioned i was Ijebu at a place I was working the comments I heared was so hilarious and they have built these in their minds.Let me not even talk about them although some were hurtful.

Please let me know when you find answers to the bolded part. It seems nobody likes Ijebu except the ijebus. lol....
Ekiti people does not like anyone that is not ekiti, but they got it extra for the ijebus and I think its because Ijebu and Ekiti are the two badass subgroups of the Yoruba tribe, hence why they don't see eye to eye.
But have you met an a pure Ijebu mother in law whose daughter in law is not an Ijebu? Shiit grin grin grin grin it is scary.

Lol.You lot are always trying to claim Wole Soyinka, like his surname isn't a proper Ijebu and his dad isn't Ijebu. I bet if Awolowo never said he was Ijebu before he became Yoruba - you'd be claiming him too. grin You defo. need an Ijebu guy to put some babies in ya belly.

I can say the same about 90% of all Nigerians from Nigeria that I've had dealings with - when they're not phony, fake, loud, crass, and judgemental - they're trying to scam folks. Heck, two still tried to scam me on gumtree on Sunday lol (I can forward our email convo to you). But I still fvcks with them everyday. Ijebu folks are cool, man - even on this forum, I know tons of Ijebu posters and they're all decent and highly educated posters. I'm probably the only that gets into all kinds of drama on here, and that's cos I'm a different breed and a product of my environment. And most times I just get banter off smacking belligerent folks lol.

The Ijebu misconception stemmed from generational jealousy. A lot of Yorubas, especially the Eastern ones (Ekiti/Ondo) just envy the fact that Ijebus have always had their own Kingdom and were never subjugated by anyone. And during the Kiriji wars, Ijebus also dominated the coast and all the businesses...and that somewhat fueled it. And they passed the anti-Ijebu folklore from generation to generation. Evidently, with preconceived notions, no matter what an Ijebu person does - it's going to get overblown lol.

Ijebus just make money, that's what they do. Hence they have the highest number of billionaires in naija by ratio - it's not even close. And they're industrialists. No group has more merchants and filthy rich folks in naija than Ijebus. Diasporan Ijebus are also coming - John Boyega, John Dabiri, David Alaba, Adebayo Ogunlesi, and my younger female cousin was featured on BBC 3 a few months ago, she's coming. grin Ijebus are great people - twerk that batty for us, mami. tongue

And yes their mother is a pure ijebu woman. No stereotypes dear.

Dolly I was thinking you would say the one I heard sometime back like Ijebus are too fetish (juju things). And I would always ask what is the basis of all these, I would agree with shymex that the hate folklore has been passed down from generations cry cry. .
You would actually see parents say "do not have anything to do with an Ijebu person" hehehe. When I say Ijebu do not joke with their money and they don't know friends and family, am not talking about their management of money.
They would want, indirectly demand and accept a free/discounted service or goods from you because you are friend or family, but when it comes to them to reciprocate, they find it hard or just look the other way, most time they charge you at exorbitant rate even. This right here is not hearsay, its what I have experienced firsthand.
Dunno about doing things with class, but most of the ijebus I know can not release their money to help someone in genuine need, but can spend so much on parties. They throw banging parties no doubt, and I always enjoy their owanbes. grin grin grin

Dolly I was thinking you would say the one I heard sometime back like Ijebus are too fetish (juju things). Yea people say that alot about the juju ish, am yet to personally experience that. So I am not gonna say those ish.
Oh dont get me started on that, I have heard stories from people who are married to an Ijebu guy or babe, they always complain that their mother in law no allow them breathe. Also, I have seen couple of cases where I can boldly say, its the mother in law causing the wahala. Infact my best friend is going through one now. Is this is peculiar to Ijebu only? No. Does it occurs among other groups? yes. But i have seen it in 80-90% of the ijebus I know but that doesn't imply that other people married to ijebus are not enjoying their marriage.

You would actually see parents say "do not have anything to do with an Ijebu person" hehehe. A friend of mine (from ondo) was linked with an Ijebu chick ( who he ended up liking so much) and the only problem to seal the deal was she is an Ijebu no other fault ooo. The guy had to confess to me personally that he had never had any problems with any of the Ijebus he had met.
Lol... I can relate, all my friends married to an ijebu keeps telling me not to go that lane. But the irony is that I always find myself attracted to an Ijebu guy, if it works out, fine, if it doesn't, its also fine, its my life and I get to live my way.

There are bad people amidst Ijebus I agree, there are also good people. The same for other tribes/ ethnic groups.
This right here summarises everything. I am just telling you about my personal experiences with Ijebus, nevertheless, individuality is my watchword.

P.S, no one should attack me (especially SirShymexx). I am not trying to insult the ijebus o.

I'm enjoying ya debate with dolly, never knew you had this in you lol.

Anyway, what is the average Ijebu chic like? I haven't met that many, apart from those in my immediate family.

I have an ex who is half-Ijebu(dad) from Ijebu Ode and half-delta Igbo. Had a short fling in Uni with a next chic whose parents are from Ijebu Ode...she was in Aston Uni back then. And some chic that got away late last year cos I didn't know a next girl I had a one-night stand with talks to her. Ol'girl snitched on me and we haven't been cool since then. That is like one of the most beautiful chics I have ever seen - a proper wifey. Her dad is Ijebu but it seems her mum is from Osun.

Lol. You sure know it is mine to lose...gatts the green light already loool. It is just a matter of when lol.

A next Ijebu girl, Zuriel Oduwole, who is just 12 is listed among the most powerful women in the world. Respect those women and you need to carry Ijebu seeds lol. Anyway, any time you see Yoruba last names that start with "So" and "Odu" - those are quintessential Ijebu names.

Your taste in music is decent. I know Obey and I absolutely love King Sunny Ade, but I don't know the rest. And where is Fela Kuti? - that's the greatest artist ever to come out of Africa. I think he was Egba.

I need to get you into hiphop and reggae - the two most spiritual genres of music.

lol... trying to sell your goods and services innit?
Its a matter of never...... cool cool cool
"So" is not peculiar to Ijebu only it is a general yoruba name, "Odu" on the other hand is, also anything 'Koya (adekoya, fakoya, sokoya and the likes), 'Banjo (ogunbanjo, adebanjo, etc), Ona... (Onabanjo, Onajirin, Ogundana etc), Osi too (Osikoya, Osiyoye...), nusi and nubi(Ogunnusi, Ogunubi, Osinusi) and 'lesi (Ogunlesi, Osilesi)....etc
I tried Fela couple of times, but I felt nothing for it.
In your words, I mess with Bob marley once in a while...... lol

Before replying ya post - I'll give you an example on why music isn't always about lyrics/language. It's about the melody and beat. This is one of my favourite tunes ever - the theme song to France 98 football world cup by Youssou N'Dour and Axel Red. It's in French and I don't understand the language, but I absolutely love the tune. grin

Lol. Stop frontin'! cool I retired from selling dreams and, mastered precognition especially in chics by using phylogeny and behavioural patterns lol. Err, that's what they all say till they encounter the physical specimen, get the kiss of death, and end up falling in love. Anyway, let's leave that for now - it's not for public consumption. tongue

That's quite insightful - learned something new. However, you should from the bits I dropped on this thread, and my posts on the forum that my scholarship is centered around Yoruba/Ijebu history/culture/traditions. I read the "So" bit in a book on google scholar. I think 'So', 'Sho', and 'Osho' are basically the same thing - and apparently, Yoruba names with those prefixes are predominantly of Ijebu origins. But you might be right though.

So, basically, based on what you posited - the international male supermodel, from London, TY Ogunkoya, is of Ijebu ancestry, no? - Nice! Then I know Adebayo Ogunlesi, the guy who bought Gatwick airport, is Ijebu. I doubt there's any Nigerian, dead or alive, in the financial world, with the same CV as that guy - his CV will blow anyone in the financial world away. My inspiration right there.

Furthermore, how about names like: "Dabiri" and "Demuren?" Those are quintessential Ijebu names, alie?

Darn! You're missing out on the greatness of Fela Kuti. I honestly don't think most Nigerians know how great that man was. He's one of the most sampled artists ever, and they teach his music in Universities across the globe. The greatness isn't about what he says in the music and the lyrics, which are also legendary - it's about the chordal and melodic nature of his sound - and the great drums. If you know about music, you'd be very appreciative of Fela's rhythm. The man was a pure genius - legendary musician. Who else ever made music by playing two saxophones in sync? And the African drums - greatness.

I think the reason why I'm so into him is cos while growing up, my dad used to play his music everyday. And once in while, he'd explain the greatness and genius of the man to us. So, when I grew older, after messing around with different genres of music - I kind of got the perfect picture. Sometimes, I just sit there and listen to Fela all day. grin

Well, your skill is giving you false idea bro.

Yea, Ogunkoya is a typical Ijebu name, so there is 95% chance that he is ijebu.
So what airport are you planning on buying? tongue tongue tongue tongue tongue

Dont know about those names, the only Dabiri I have heard of is Abike Dabiri and she is from Ikorodu, but then Ikorodu people are believed to have migrated from Ijebu land. I have never heard of Demuren before, are you a Demuren? tongue tongue tongue

Nigerians know how great that man was, well maybe except the indomie generations.
My mom used to tell me so many tales about the Ransome-Kuti family. Thats one great family.
My parents listened to Ebenezer Obey and Sunny Ade, hence my love for them.
But basically, I love more of serene musical instrumentals.
Should try some Fela again, this time with an open mind, maybe I would feel something.

Beats and melody before anything else.. Fela proved that over and over..
Fela played in Berlin in 1978 to Eastern Germans who really don't understand a word of English, not to talk of pidgin English.. He also filled ground in Glastonbury in '84..
90% of Fela's music were in pidgin
