Dear Consulate,

. I was denied my bi/b2 visa today cry. I told the consulate I am married with 2kids and I will be going for 3 weeks to see my nephew I have not seen for a long time.

She asked me why I was travelling alone nd I told her my kids r in school. But I was denied.

I need your help to advise me on what to do cos am thinking of reapplying with my kids and husband asap for Christmas holiday. Cos I noticed all applicants that came with der kids nd husband were given visa.

1. my problem is when I re apply will I be the main applicant while my husband nd kids will be dependant?

2. Should I use hotel reservation or I should use the same relative (my uncle) as my contact person.

kindly help me cos I need to start asap.

thank you.

Reapply with your family just for christmas holiday as you have said, and that you will use the opportunity to see your Nephew. you will be given. is your uncle an american citizen? it is better to use someone who is an american citizen as ur contact person in the US.

When will the Green Passport get respect again my people....
When you decide to vote the right people into positions of power.
Like a consular office once told me, Nigeria is under an effective consular sanction as a result of the bad economy, lack of opportunity and poverty levels.
In short, you are a flight risk.

Period! I was lazy to type this when I read the transcript. The applicant cannot afford the trip based on her earnings.
you are wrong. I know of a lady that told the vo she was earning 100k and yet was given a visa . So the applicant monthly salary must be equal or above the total amount the applicant wants to spend on the journey Hell no. That is why statement of accounts are usually asked for to know how much the applicant has in his or her account. So u must be earning 500k to be granted a visa? Visa in nigeria is 40 to 50% based on luck and vo discretion. The vo didn't even ask for the bank statement to know how much the applicant is worth ,may he even has millions there.

you are going to visit your cousin with no invitation letter from him. the lie wasn't solid. next time, cook up a nice lie. you were luck they didn't ask you why you want to visit him. you might stammer your life away.

US embassy dont asked for invitation letter. it is not relevant in most cases for tourist visa.

after 6 years of being in power with almost every thing good in the country nosediving, youstill want this clueless, spineless, man handling our resources? Nigeria ,is bad enough as it is, he should just leave already. I guess you are a dependent, YES OR NO? If you worked. For your expenses you wouldn't spurt what I quoted up there.

I have read so many responses to this write up many of which gave wise tips but the one lamenting the green passport not having respect is annoying.
May I authoritatively inform the writer of that piece that the Nigeria E passport is as date one of the most respected today in the world because of its high security features. It is in fact second to the United States passport in meeting ICAO standard.
Granting or refusal of visa is based not on the Country’s passport but other issues some of which are as follows ;
●Confidence of the appplicant during interview
●Evidence of strong ties at home to prove that the applicant is not abandoning home
●Evidence of livelihood to prove that applicant will not be a public charge in host Country
●Previous travel history hence the question have you travelled before is more important than people think
●It's always a good proof of financial independence when you book a reservation and pay for at least a night rather than filling your relation's address as the place to stay in the States
●Age is also important. Do you look as old as you claim?
●Dress neatly and not to impress
●Never appear desperate, be relaxed.
●Never be in a hurry to produce any document except when it's requested for
Good luck

You made great points, but to say the passport doesn't matter is not true. I school in the UK, we spend 6 months in the UK, then 6 months in the US, then come back to the UK. The school processes everything. However there are students from certain countries that always find it difficult acquiring their US visa. Mostly Iraqis, they have to fill out a security form and go through other process. While the British guys don't even break a sweat. You would think it would be easy considering the reputation of the school and having paid almost N60 million in school fees. Now imagine applying as an individual as a cittizen of those countries.

Sir, my first travel outside naija was to the United States... I wasnt that confident especially when I was asked questions yet I got the VISA. They asked abt my job, places I'll visit when I get there... They didnt even request for much document....
Re: My Experience At US Embassy In Lagos Today by ttmacoy: 8:31am On Mar 26, 2015
The difference is majority of the foreigners visit Nigeria do so for business not holiday. Nigerian going to e.g. the US for business get visa easier especially if coming via a reputable company, but we all know the bulk of visa applications from nigeria are for visit or student visa and business make up a very very small percentage.

BTW getting a Nigeria visa isn't easy. Ask the many Nigerians who hold foreign passports and want to visit Nigeria. It's actually easier to just reapply for a passport than apply for visit visa.

SamConquer:
#smiles.....but here in Naija, anything goes, anybody can just come in anytime.afterall we need them.they call them foreign investors

bros ,the guy answered the question accurately without telling stories . It just wasn't his day. I think maybe he was jittery when answering and the vo must have thought he is lying . Apart from that ,there is nothing wrong with his answers but most likely his facial expression and body language could have made the vo to doubt him .

Sorry about the bad reception. Here are few things the VAC usually consider when interviewing visa applicant;
1. Is the person you want to visit financially okay?
2. Does he/she have an apartment
3.Is he/she a green card holder?
4.They expect your duration (1st timers only) to be some for months, usually 2- 6 months

I think your application was declined because of the '2 weeks' you mentioned.

He probably got denied because of the following reasons:

He earns just a lil over $800 per month <= not enough money considering he has two dependants

He has no travel history <= a big red flag after the insufficient income has been taken into account

He has family ties in America<= he is most likely not going to come back after taking the first two points into consideration
applying for business visa would have been better, right?
just tell the VO you are going to buy something like scrap metal. it is more convincing.

bros ,there is nothing baseless about his reasons. You can travel for whatever reason u like . If you like u can travel just to see the airport and go back .it is ur money u are spending. Granting of visa is solely based on the discretion of the vo.

I agree that it is discretionary but these things also pay a part. A former colleague of mine was denied because according to the VO he doesn't earn enough money. He work for one of the highest paying government agencies. His pay then was around 200k.

@OP, you were denied/ not eligible simply because you have no " travel history".

You've never taken a holiday before, it's strange you suddenly want to travel to us.

Before you re-apply next time, build a travel history. Start by going to places like Ghana, Kenya, Dubai or even SA for vacation.

It's quite difficult to get US, UK or Schengen visa with a virgin passport if you are below 40.

Wrong notion!

I got my US visa for a vacation on virgin. I know a number of persons too who got on virgin passport.

I figured OP's pay check was the deal breaker
