It is really painful the way the Nigerian armed forces can only compare itself to other african military forces.
At this point,we should already be rubbing shoulders with militaries like South Korea,Isreal,Venezuela,Canada etc....not comparing ourselves with weak african countries.
South Korea alone has the military might to lay Egypt to waste in the span of a few weeks.
With the level of threats we have surrounding us,i wonder why we are still stalling in developing military technology that would far outclass even the western junks that we so love to purchase.

Yep, but Milan has a max range of 3km and seems bulkier.
During operation hunter small "anti-tanks recce teams" deployed them but ended up withdrawing frustrated cause the enemy would put infantry in front.

Protecting the tanks by putting them in the core of their formations and only using them to counter.

But isn't the 5km range too much for infantry?

South Korea has a GDP that ranks 12th in the world and no longer has the need for massive infastructure development or investment in education, healthcare or industry

They also sit next to a nation with 1,5million men who are still technically at war with them.

That is the reason why they have such a potent military.

Investment in things that will result in internal stabilization (education, healthcare, service delivery, infastructure, industrial development and diversification) will pay far more dividends than a strong military - your nation has problems with armed rebel groups and overt gang activity due to dissent and dissatisfaction - removing the things which displease them will stop the need for a military before it happens.

With regards to inter-state conflict your only real adversaries are Chad and Cameroon.

Cameroon only has about a Brigades worth of quality troops ( Rapid intervention battalion + support elements) and can be easily dealt with. Chad poses a far greater adversary, but the current size of the Nigerian military should be able to handle it.

Nigeria needs to focus on modernization, standardization, improved communications, logistical development, improved training facilities and all that - growing the size of your military wont help at all.

@patches,you underestimate the threats that Nigeria faces, not only from chad, but also from libya, morocco and the WEST{especially france}.we are located at the rim of a fragile geopolitical zone, ripe for the explosion of islamic terror.
Any nation that places priority on infrastructural development and neglects national defence will end up regretting it,what is the use of shiny skyscrapers when a single enemy missile can turn 200 skyscrapers into disjointed shards of broken glass?
Any nation that wishes to grow, enjoy its rapid socio-economic development and attain total peace must seek an equally potent military to protect it.
Yes,we are stronger than our immediate neighbours, but unlike SA,Nigeria is thinking about the future, not only the present.
PS: terrorism has nothing to do with socio-economic or infrastructural defficiency,it is more of an ideological malady.

Oga mi,i recently noticed that japan has taken an active stance concerning Nigerian affairs, which is a bit baffling, does japan seek to extend soft power into the continent?,is there an iminent rivalry to be expected between china and japan on the African continent?,how does this affect western influence on the continent, perhaps a shift in partnership?,why Nigeria?.hope to get your reply soon.

JUST A COVER UP STORY. ANYWAY, THE WIFE OF THE DEAD LEON LOTZ CONFIRMED TO SA MEDIA THAT HIS HUSBAND WAS NEVER A MECHANIC AND WAS MERELY A COUNTER-INSURGENCY EXPERT FROM THE YESTERYEARS OF KOEVOET DAYS. IT APPEARS MR LOTZ WAS HIRED AS AN ADVISER OTHER THAN THE PROPAGANDA THAT WAS SPREAD BY PDP LEAD GOVERNMENT.

IT WAS ALSO DISCOVERED THAT NONE OF THE SA COMPANIES THAT SOLD WEAPONS TO NIGERIA EVER SENT A TEAM OF EXPERTS TO TRAIN NIGERIAN MILITARY HOW TO USE THEIR WEAPONS. NIGERIA BOUGHT STANDARD RIVA VEHICLES WHICH DO NOT REQUIRE ANY EXPERTISE TO DRIVE THEM AND ONE CAN EVEN CHOOSE TO MOUNT WEAPON OF CHOICE WITHOUT DIFFICULTY.

IT IS NOW APPARENT THAT ALL SOUTH AFRICANS WHO HEADED TO NIGERIA ARE NONE OTHER THAN MERCENARIES WHO MAJORITY OF THEM WERE RECRUITED WHILE THEY WERE SERVING THEIR TIME IN IRAQ.

How does defeating rag tag rebels who humiliated you, killed over 6000 people, displaced 1,6million and could only be defeated by foreign mercenaries make you the best military?

Show us foreign mercenary firing a rifle inside battlefield in Nigeria, and show us the Bokos they killed grin grin

rag tag rebels killed 150,000 Algerian civilians, Nigeria lost 6,500 over a period of 6 years....very small number.
Rag tag terrorists killed about 4, 000 in ONE DAY inside America's New York city.

America and Britain have failed to defeat rag tag rebels in Afghanistan for 13 years of battle and are withdrawing in shame back home, NATO had 1,000 times more weapons and equipment than Nigeria.

South African military has ZERO achievement in the past 20 years. Current 99.99% of the SANDF have ZERO war experience in their lives.

Your attempt at replying my post reeks of desperation. Let me quickly add that this scope of international politics is beyond your league. You aren't sound enough so it takes you up to a week to try to level with me by employing half-baked facts backed by little international awarness.
Please international politics isn't your forte.

During the ivory coast presidential issues, ecowas had already asked gbabo to step down and blacklisted his government from ecowas. Military intervention was being discussed on the table.
Southafrica rushed into prove a point out of a desperate need to belong. It's the same way that pathetic country was meddling in Israeli Palestinian issues until she was told to go and play with the likes of Burundi.

Nigeria wasn't sleeping over the Libyan crisis. I weep for your pathetic sense. You rush to play Mr. Know it all, to teach us what you yourself have not finished understanding. Even a Pharisee has got a better tact than you.
Ghadafi as one of the oldest and wealthiest African leaders has asked for the au to morph into a single country with him as president.
His expantionist agenda is what Nigeria had always kicked against.

Ghadafi attacked Chad in the 80's in a bid to annex it. He was stopped. South Africa had alsways had a communist flare that's what your shallow, google educated, hypocrital political learning can't fathom.

She was against the west seeking to oust ghadafi who was a proven terrorist and murderer. It was a political guff by southafrica, not a show of strength.

I never said Nigeria was meditating in the Libyan crisis. I emphasized that Nigeria officially recognised the tnc, while south Africa was barking ay NATO. Stick to facts not cheap blackmail.

Nigeria had been a power broker in Africa since her independence. Intact it was only in GEJ regime we started looking inwards.
From the 60's Nigeria had sent professionals to southern African countries as judges, teachers doctors etc.

We were there against apartheid in south Africa. We were there for Liberia, sierrea-Leon, Sao Tome and Principe, ECOWAS is our brain child. We still fund it more than 60 %.

South Africa isn't the brainchild of AU. It was was ghadafi. YOU ARE AN EMBARRASSMENT.
OAU was formed in 1963 by haile selassie, nkuruma. Letter is was changed to the AU in 1999 just 5years after southafrica got her apartheid cleared into representative governmment. AU is ghadafi's brainchild not southafrica. You eat alot of kpoph-kpoph which has not only killed your sense of shame and patriotism but has made you a desperate fugitive looking for cheap fame by bashing his country in front of her very rivals internationally.

If countries give birth to citizens, you would have been an "exhibit A" bâstärd, a waste of life and a big 0 to your country. you are an ignorant traitor, a classless one at that.

Bakassi was settled legally by the international court. Nigeria led by example and didn't use her might to swallow Cameroon. You said Chad is liberating Nigerian towns. Well Chad liberated 3 Nigerian town in their own border while Nigerian liberated 43 town in 2 weeks in an erea the size of Belgium.

Since when is a 21century terrorist insurgency fought alone, especially given the fact that it is in a border terrotry of Nigeria. In 9/11 investigation showed that the terrorist came into USA through Canada. In Nigeria's case, the insurgence often escape into neighbouring countries after attacks from the Nigerian army, so it their business to get into the war.

Also you said Nigeria isn't a threat to Libya, you need to stay away from google and get real education. Libya can't challenge any African country in the north which comprised fellow Arabic countries, so she looked into west Africa and Chad her immediate neighbour came into play, so she attacked and tried to annex Chad. Now Chad is in the lake Chad basin coperstion with Nigeria as well as an ECOWAS country which Nigeria oversees. So how could we not be a threat?

Let me educate you right now, France is uncomfortable with Nigeria's hegemony in west Africa and is on all cylinders to bring division between the aglofone and francofone countries. But you wouldn't know.

You said Egypt, Algeria and morocco are white/arabic. NO!!! They are Arabic. While they partake in african affairs passively is because of their interest being situated in Africa. Morocco didn't even have the grace of pretence, she's not member of the AU.

It's not about the skin colour it's way more than that. If you will pause and watch CNN ,you will see that Egypt and co are part of the middle east. The same way Turkey isn't European not just by skin colour but by political, cultural, ideological and world view disposition , then by people and origin. It is so with north Africa, hence the term, sub Saharan Africa.

You said the rivary I sited in my last post about European countries is national interest, then why won't Nigeria in your opinion be entitle to her bickering here.

You said we are not suppose to get Ebola, blah blah blah. That no screening whatsoever at the airports. Should I remind you late sawyer was a diplomat who came into Nigeria officially? How did Ebola got into mighty USA or even Spain?

You are a walking shame, a waste of Nigerian life and a category A traitor.

in a scale of 1/10, you are a big 0.

in case you are suffering under the illusion of being a TRUE Nigerian who speaks the truth, let me unburden you and give you the rare gift of disillusionment; you are a waste to humanity, one who is alien to loyalty and constructive criticism.

anyone who read your posts here will come into that conclusion. It is clear your personal life is a lonlely, uneventful circle of frustration. You here to seek meaning and purpose to your existence which is characterized by the whirlwind of logical deficiency, self-loathing and schizophrenic hunger for attention.

1) Mandela supported western sanctions against Nigeria during abacha regime. (niqqur championed the thing on the continental side)

2)SA never supported TNC. SA supported ghadafi till hia death because he had alot of his loots stashed in SA banks and was very close to zuma. in case you didn't know, there is what they call national interests when playing international politics which comes first in everything.

3) SA did what they did in ivory coast because gbagbo was a close friend of the SA government. while Nigeria was not a gbagbo fan. (dude supported militias and at a time threatened to shoot down our plane when we tried to deliver supplies and reinforcements to our men in sierra leon). both SA and Nigeria acted in their interests and Nigeria did well to make SA understand it's place by making it sail it's vessel back to pretoria. same scenario payed out in Lybia and i'm happy we were against ghadafi

When Nigerian flag was flying in Abuja you were still screaming about Boko Haram 'controlling' lands the size of Belgium....anyway where is that your usual Boko Haram caliphate map of control you normally post here? Where is it? Nigerian army and air force tore your map into pieces and shoved it down your throat by force till it sank deep down into your änus gringrin

Whose flag flies in the southern towns of Afghanistan and key cities like Kapisa ?....Taliban flags everywhere, American and British army have failed, they are running away from battle with rag tag insurgents.

ACCORDING TO AMERICAN NEW YORK TIMES, TALIBAL RULES MASSIVE TERRITORIES INSIDE AFGHANISTAN TODAY 2015.

"The Taliban have found success beyond their traditional strongholds in the rural south and are now dominating territory near crucial highways and cities that surround Kabul, the capital, in strategic provinces like Kapisa and Nangarhar."

Nigerian army is SUPERIOR to NATO armies, except for equipment. NA & NAF have made history as the first nations to defeat Islamic insurgents with the barrel of a gun in 42 days.

New world combat record by Naija Ninjas o !

South Africa will NEVER achieve that in the next 1,000 years because cowardice has robbed SANDF of it's already weak manhood grin grin

Saw what? were you on Anthony Day's ship?Did you see a SAN ship firing those rounds?
As i said before even Mr Dean Wingrin who first reported the story, suspects it was a German vessel.

SA MERCENARIES WHO WERE IN IRAQ ARE NOT ALL TECHNICIANS MANY ARE TRAINED AS FIGHTERS. YOU CAN NEVER DENY IT. I AM A SOUTH AFRICAN AND I KNOW. MANY OF THEM HAVE NEVER BEEN TO UNIVERSITY T ALL.
Then it shouldnt be hard to produce proof of the presence of mercenaries in Nigeria,i'm still expecting proof from you,not incoherent heresays.

@lezz,agaugust,naijapikingidi,overhypedsteve..has anyone noticed the recent escalation of japanese interests in Nigerian affairs?
They seem particularly too friendly in the past couple of months
what could have brought up such an interesting development?

Japan is now desperate to do huge business with Nigeria as the biggest and richest country in Africa, they want to rival China and South Korea that have started multi-billion dollar fresh wave of investments in Nigeria.

Japan is removing it's Nissan automobile industry away from trouble in South Africa, to Lagos Nigeria for a superior business market. The black giant is swallowing up South Africa systematically

Do you really want your enema now? I have my hot sauce ready.

Regardless of which vessel fired the shots - radar reflectors are needed to accurately engage vessels of that type and size.

Day explained that while he was waiting for his crew before launching, a charter boat operator arrived, towing a 14 foot radio-controlled speed boat. The black-painted boat featured a radar reflector and a German technician commenced pre-launch activities.
- Defenceweb

So, from the sources we can conclude:

1. Germans were present (no mention of SAN at all)
2. Vessels of that size require radar reflectors to be accuratly engaged.
3. Yet again you have shown a completed lack of military knowledge

Now, how does your bottom feel with all that hot pepper sauce in it?

Lets go one step further, Day said his boat was 28-foot ski boat. Thats 8 meters, he estimates the shots fell within 15 meters infront of him.

This means that first salvo accuracy for the vessel which fired the shots is 23 meters. The size of a Shaldag is 24 meters.

This means that who ever fired the shots can hit even the smallest patrol boats in the Nigerian navy, and not only that, whoever fired the shots has a 100% chance of hitting that Nigerian boat with the first salvo.

Whoever fired those shots showed expert gunnery at a target that had a poor radar signature and in complete darkness.

See, not only have I given you a hot pepper sauce enema, I have plugged your A** with a cassava. grin grin grin

Who said Nigeria was Africa's richest nation?

We have 3X the government revenue and 5X the GDP per capita

And lets not mention how we own your economy in every single way

And lets not mention that no other nation in Africa receives as much direct investment as us... we rank 16th in the world.

Your peasant state attracts nothing but war and pestilence
