Can you see why having a female boss could put one in delicate situations? What is carrying her bag containing her personal effects adding to the company's productivity? People acting on feelings rather than rational judgement, dude you did nothing wrong here cos its the messenger or her PA's job to do such. If you choose to,then its discretionary but you shouldnt get fired for not doing it.

No, his reasoning behind it. And she is NOT his contemporary. She is his boss. It is really hard for
some men to accept that. That action was not demeaning because it was a handbag, it was demeaning because to him, she
was only there because of her father and he is her equal professionally, plus a woman. The man lied to himself.

Let me ask you. If you were in the same school as Warren Buffet's son and he later joined his father's company as a
VP of operations, and hired you would you honestly and foolishly imagine you were his contemporary? Honestly?!

I don't care if you shared the same desk, at that moment he is not. Now if you can not endure that, then do not work for him, but
if you do, guess what? He can have you fax papers for him as he talks to his true contemporaries on the phone.

Now you've exposed how much you really think of yourself. Your self esteem must be really low. Smh for you!

Thinkr:
madam if a male boss holds a brief case its 99% sure those things contain office documents or so but a female hand bag? Are you kidding me? Why not say a female carrying brief case? I have worked in a bank and I had female bosses my dear. I do things and joke with them but anytime dey cross the line I make hell out of the office that day. Get that into your head

Ok I've gotten it into my head that you raise hell in the office if one of your bosses does something you don't like.

Any other thing?

Oga they are both architects in the same company. The only rank she has over him is that its her dads company. They're both architects for petes sake! She's about the same age as the OP. Why d fûck should she ask him to carry her bag?

She is not his contemporary. She is his boss, by virtue of her father yes, but still his boss. See my example on Warren Buffet to understand. Then close your eyes and imagine she as a he. Your emotions would not betray you then.
She should not have asked him to carry her handbag...agreed, if there was no need to (i was not there), but he could have handled it in a
way that she did not feel slighted. Just like a man should not have another carry his suitcase, a boss in the states should not send someone to buy him coffee etc and the case goes on. But that is not the real world.

Somebody who is paying your salary is no longer your contemporary
klark3:
I was employed as an architect in a medium size architectural firm, my boss happens to be a lady.

I hitched a ride in her car after a meeting with a client on site, It's was even my first time of hitching a ride in her car, as I have always eschewed it, on getting to the office she asked me to carry her hand bag along, but I turned deaf ear to her request and swiftly went straight to the office, but she came to my office and gave me a sullen glare.

I thought the malice won't last long, but unfortunately for me, she fired me this morning for a no cogent reason.

I'm downcast and bewildered, she's just privilege to be the manager because it's her dad firm, she's my contemporary, and I was on the verge of supervising a gigantic project.

Was I wrong?

A bag Mr man can carry d exact same tin a briefcase does. N besides the op wasnt asked to stick his hand inside n grab a pad. It was a simple request until all u small minded folk started reading meaning into it.

Besides a male boss's briefcase could contain his purse which could hav his condoms in it... u see what happens when u start ' over reading meaning'.

Ur mentality is pathetic. Its quite weak

Nigeria and their mentality? Well my friend, you cannot live in Nigeria with European mentality neither can you live in Europe well with Nigerian mentality.

You cannot challenge your boss without options. The OP has options which include loss of job. That option was exercised. The OP should move on to a more friendly environment.

When a company sends an intern on a coffee run in the office, it is never specified in their job responsibilities.

OP made a choice. Now he has to live with the consequences which by the way could be good or bad. Bad in the sense that he lost a job. Good in the sense that the experience will motivate and propel him to a higher level.

Should i tell you something? I would not work for that person if they were my friend, because i would not be comfortable
taking orders.
But if i did work with them, i would understand that EVERYONE in that company does not see us as equal.

@op, you have not told us the whole story. You can't be sacked for not carrying a bag for the first time of asking. There are two scenerios to this matter.

Either you have been shown some form of disrespect in the past? Or

You have ignored her advance, and started going out with a female colleague, and she is not happy.

Just my humble 2 pence

@ the bolded: its for her protection! So she's not molested. Exactly how many rape cases do we get to hear of in Saud Arabia?
And what are the stats for Nigeria?

You seems to be still very young, inexperienced, and unexposed. You see, I went through that phase some 25 to 27 years ago. My single advice for you is that: If you enjoy your own freedom, don't be a hindrance to other people's freedom.

No need to curse me.. i have my dignity and i know my self worth.. i dont need anyone to treat me like a king or so to make me feel better about myself, at least not at my place of work.. if you want dignity stay at home, i guess being jobless would boost your self worth.. not mine

The boss is rarely the smartest one in a team.

The boss constantly being hard on you is God's way of reminding you to work harder to become independent. Even at that, people will still irritate you as a sole proprietor. And if you cannot figure out how to diplomatically deal with such situations in life, you are bound to fail. A lot of people hate their bosses, yet they go to work everyday.

The lady is not bad after all. She let the leech get free rides once in a while. If you want respect, stop enjoying freebies. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

You were NOT wrong. You did the right thing. If you had carried her bag, that would only have been the first of several ridiculous demands / requests she would have made. She would have fired you in the end if you refused any of her other demands.

Yes you should be humble but you should NEVER sell your 'head' for a job, for money, or for anything. This is not about ego - it's common sense.

A better job will come.

No need to insult. We are having a dialogue. You do not like my POV, no problem. I read what he said. She is not in his rank or she would not have fired him! Right?! Your contemporary does not fire you!
What he said is no different than what many people say to their leaders, "i can do better and they are jealous of me." Sigh. Any leader has heard people like him many times over.

Whatever, he has no job.

I have a balanced esteem of myself, i own my own business.

That's the point, it's her personal make up bag, my male sensibilities wouldn't permit me to do it. if it were to be another thing, like a model, design proposal, I would have graciously oblige her request.

I guess she was beginning to perceive me as a rival, and was scared of my chances of taking over, because I was highly commended by her dad for a project I executed recently. She was supposed to handle the architectural drawings and specifications, but the layout wasn't working and the project was transferred to my desk.

You know women, her dad compelled her to study architecture, so she could take over from him. she is the lazy type and wouldn't have willingly go for architecture.

Guess she did it deliberately to get me out of her way. But she didn't know I wouldn't have accepted to be the manager, because it's her dad firm.

Just wanted to build my clientele.

It's all good though, thanks man for your concern.
