Since 2012 I used a couple of expensive methods to purchase goods off Amazon not limited to the following
1: Buy and Ship to American Address of a Friend arriving Nigeria in a week or two
2: Use Nigerian Shops who buy on your behalf and ship at exorbitant prices and +5% Black Market USD$
3: Use American re-shipping and forwarding agents such as MyUs.com

all the above did not exactly satisfy my hunger for original/premium quality goods. Rather than fight with Nigerian shops selling knock-offs or out-dated and on-sale goods for more than 5 times the price on Amazon. I decided to try Amazon today and viola!! they do ship to Nigeria using my GTBank MasterCard. I quickly placed an order for some items and checked-out my cart. goods should arrive this April 17 at most.

My Question is.. How are Nigerian Entrepreneurs going to match Amazon in pricing and quality. Jumia and Konga have only raised the hunger for online shopping without the capacity to meet it appropriately. but with Amazon in the picture.. won't Nigerians move their purchases elsewhere.. what happens to the affiliate marketing schemes and other online retailers like SLOT etc.

This is interesting, if true. You'd still have to deal with high shipping costs though. Buh, I should give this a try.

Nigeria is about 170million .....we ought not to be neglected like this
Its a now a matter of service and patriotism
If Jumia and Konga expand and increase their services , Nigerians would patronize them more

This has always been the case, for me. I've been able to purchase and ship to my Nigerian address on certain items, provided I'm prepared to put up with the excessive shipping rates and the possibility that the item may get impounded by the Nigerian Customs Service. Nothing new, there are still several other items, especially the highly desired ones from vendors such as Sony, Apple, Samsung and others that won't ship to your Nigerian address. You'll still need to rely on forwarding services like MyUS.com

As regards Jumia and Konga, I don't see such a development (when or if it happens) being a problem for them, the same way I don't think PayPal's full presence in Nigeria will hurt Interswitch smiley I am in the market for a home appliance which I've decided I'm buying from either Jumia or Konga even though it's about 15k less from Amazon. If you want a read on my experience with MyUS, and Customs, see: http://n3rve.com/myus-fedex-the-nigerian-customs-service-my-experience-ps4-order

Amazon has been shipping to Nigeria for a while now, but only certain items qualify for that. The shipping fees are also very expensive... they charge like twice what DHL would charge on a normal day.

So I'd advice anyone shopping amazon to use a friends address in the US and then have it sent to Nigeria via bulk shipping.

From the screenshots you have posted, this isn't Amazon per se but one of their verified sellers (1000 jewels) who is happy to ship to Nigeria. Some are not. This is a great improvement, but don't clap until you have received your items. Most online sellers tend to use standard post systems in order to make shipping affordable and subsequently, their prices attractive, but this means that the shipping is only as reliable as the postal system by country.

The benefit of using online sellers/agents lies in the quantity of goods purchased. If you are looking to go shopping for multiple items, then most online shoppers in Nigeria tend not to want to take the risk of shipping via the Nigerian postal system as the chances that some goods might go astray are quite high.

Please update us on how this goes as it will help a lot of people.

Ok
But reliability of the courier they'll use would scare them away. Is it NIPOST that can perform houdini on your shipped items and then give you stones neatly wrapped in a box or something similar?

Best bet is to use DHL though but as known are more expensive than even the middlemen shippers.

The option to ship to Nigeria depends on the retailer on Amazon you are buying from.
This has always been available sir.
