Can you go travel to the US on a one way ticket and book your return when you get there without any problem at the POE. ( the person is not certain about the date of return cos she's still lobbying for more time at her place of work and she saw a cheap flight offer she wants to take advantage of).

Your friend should kindly book a return ticket and move the date later. At the POE, some cbp officers want to see your return date on your ticket and if you dont have it, you will be termed as one that dont want to return to his/her country.

Is there an annotation on the visa stating the date & location of conference? If No... He can travel anytime, with a return ticket, hotel booking & an itenary showing the places he intend to visit in the US...
But if there is an annotation on the visa, I'm not so sure what to advice, just wait for the gurus on this thread to give there opinion

@Ogbeche77, there is noting of such on the visa just the normal b1b2 visa. He just wants clarification so that when he eventually travel he won't be embarrassed or disturbed at the point of entry.

@Ultimatee,tell him to be ready to explain to border control officers why he didnt attend the conference, because they will ask, although, it is a B1B2 visa which guarantees your entry to the US for tourism and conferences but some border officials are sometimes skeptical if you don't use a Visa for it's intended purpose, there have been cases where some obtain visa for conference and they didn't go but now want to use it to enter the US and when they are asked series of questions and they are not able to defend themselves properly, they are refused entry...

New Zealand is close to Australia and their visa requirements are almost similar to that of the US and Australia, you will need a very good home tie to scale that hurdle, instead of going via the US, why not relax, work on your loopholes, give the visa issue a break and re-apply to New Zealand from Nigeria if that is your dream destination. Migrating to OZ or New Zealand,( student route would have been more preferable in my opinion)..

You wont be able to apply for New Zealand visa from the US with a visit visa, you must be either a green card holder or a US citizen.......

But, why u really travelling?? To jst visit or u intending to migrate? Cos i sense desperation in you. Why d change in itinerary so you'd enter the states. I'm sorry bro, but this forum is for applicants who genuinely wanna visit.

There is a lot of harm in trial. Your frivolous reason might put them on check against your next frivolous application.

Non Immigrant Visas are usually only issued to genuine visitors who wish to return home after a short period of stay in the US.

What is your real purpose of wanting to travel? Tourism or 'Hustling'?

i tink u all my main@reason is to travel to us n come back n continue my work i work in nalin paint company with a gud pay just to visits my friend for 2wk thats all.i have about 3m in my acc yet he denied me n didn't even ask me any question he conce on my friend father only,he only ask us if we have travel b4 we said no n he ask the father is we r one family he said we r we r his cousen n his son friend had it being he ask us question i would have like it,even the graduation iv my friend sent to me my accnt statemen,m recom.letter he didn't see any,
