#10,000 is too much, our inlaw paid #100 it depends

Exactly!

Our tradition (Nnewi) is N100 and if the groom wants to dole out more money, he does it secretly and at his own will. I am waiting on the sore liar called @7Alender to tell me how his brother in-law paid N375,000 for drinks alone.

i will answer u gracefully, im from Otolo (dts all u nid 2 kno), and i ll say it agn, d drinks my bro-in-law bought totalled 375,000. tell me abt d standing order, because d last tym i checked, trad marriage list varies between 'umunnas', in my own, it is inclusive of umu okpu, umu ada, nwunye di etc shares. even at d end every man in d umunna still go home with at least 5 bottles of drinks, same with d umu okpus, nwunye dis, etc.

I DONT KNOW Y THE POOR WEST IS COMPLAINING OF COST OF MARRIAGE IN THE EAST.
WE IN THE EAST ARE NOT COMPLAINING.
WE ARE DIFFERENT, WE DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR CULTURE, WHY ARE YOU DEVELOPING HBP OVER OURS

YOU WANT US TO MAKE IT CHEAP SO THAT EVERY TOM AND HARRY WILL WANT TO MARRY IGBO GIRL. We know our women are precious, it is a thing of pride in other tribes to marry igbo. We know that..... Hence in my community, when we see suitors from other tribe expecially the west, we triple the list, we are wise......

For your infomation, no igbo man has ever complain that money made him not to marry. The more you try to unders4and, igbos, the confuse you become. Igbos are wise, Igbos are great

So, where in Otolo are you from?

I'm from Akbo Ezem, Uruagu, Nnewi... I no hide am. I need to verify your claims. Your claim is seriously outrageous and should be investigated ASAP... This is NOT Nnewi tradition. Your town is under Otolo (where Igwe stays) which is part of Aka Nnewi ano. Yes, marriage list is by Umunna but your umunna MUST follow stipulated rules (Omenana). Your Umunna CANNOT be doing omenenu... I know umuanna gets 6 cases of five different kinds of drink (including beverage), followed by 4 cases Umuada, followed by 2 cases Umu Okpu and the rest are just additional. So Nnayi, biko gwam... How does your total equal up to N375,000?

Please tell us what kind of drinks they bought because the three main group, nna, ada and okpu have been satisfied, so gini ka ogoo golu nke ojiri luo 375k?

Your people probably declared surplus that is why your in-law spent that amount. Seems to me your family wave their hand for the whole Nkwo Nnewi to assemble and witness the traditional marriage. Don't tell me that 375000 drinks is part of the list because it is an ear and eye sore there are still below average earners who still get marry at Nnewi.

It seems like he doesn't know Nnewi tradition... N375k for traditional marriage is a different thing but to tell me it's part of the list... Mba. Our people say, Obu ezi okwu na mmiri zolu, mana n'obolu ozu bu asi (it is true there was heavy rainfall, but saying it unearthed a human corpse IS A BIG LIE).

That's the point... It's not ONLY outrageous, but a LIE.

Tell me, list it on NL... What was on the list..? angry angry

The reason I am angry at you is because you called it "shitty culture", you could have continued your lies but insulting our culture is a no no... Please tell us what drinks your ogoo bought for Umunna. I am waiting.

The bro is mixing it up..........he probably thought that the wine and drinks for the club members, committee of friends and the other long list of friends are part of the traditional marriage list.

its not a question of how many ppl were invited, because d list must av bin handed out right frm d outset of preparations. my dad was even complaining, at d end his share as d brides father was a crate of star and a crate of gulder, while my mom got a crate of mineral and small stout each. come to think of it , if every member of umu ada, umu nna, nwunye di, goes home with 4-5 bottles of drinks, apart frm d ones drank at d occasion, hw many crates do u tink it will amount to? one thing i will tell u is, speak for yourself. thats all

I believe a decent family that want good future for their daughter will not use bill to send the groom away. But I think Igbo people should change this perspectives so as to help their daughters in getting married to a person they love instead of highest bidder.. Am a yoruba man and I want to marry an ibo girl, no matter what,I will never run away because I love my girl so much

Then he should call his father (no disrespect) or any of his uncles or umunna and ask for clarification. Later he would come out and say they asked him to pay N500k as dowry whereas Nnewi tradition makes it mandatory for the parent to accept N100 only.

Okay, we are getting somewhere... At least, you have mentioned the kind of drinks... Stout, beer and beverage (see my previous post). Even if each person went with a crate of beer (12 bottles) which is impossicant, how much is a crate of beer? Assuming ALL the persons involved were up to 100 (which is next to impossible), how much do you think your ogoo nwoke spent? angry

Btw, you're saying "drank at the occasion", which occasion? Bros, you're mixing akwa nkwu with iku aka and imego.

Funny. You must have been rolling with wretched guys. Like someone said, everything there is less than 200k. For your information a club night out with guys, you can actually spend more than 200k. So why would regular cash expense be a reason for late marriages? Compare the price of 20 tubers of yam to iphone 6 to be bought for the girl, her sister and her mother.
oh mr or miss youngy millionarie i see u always roll with d likes of dangote

but my advise to u is to go to another thread

#POVERTY...

Now I don't know if it is the family of the bride that is so poor that they wanna use this opportunity to gather enough for the rainy days.

Secondly, I don't know if it is the Op and those that will support his point that are so poor that they are scared of the challenge of getting married to an Igbo lady.

Still thinking

Either way u mayb correct.. The kind of relevance attached to a wealthy person in Nigeria is out of order

This get rich get rich mentality by every Tom, Dike and Harry is becoming very sickening

@topic these practices are supposed to be from the ancient times when women still has value and dignity
Not when the cleavage and the panties are right in front of you on the streets

Or when some b! tch dates 6 different guys in 2yrs with multiple multiple rounds of hot sex and becomes someone's " bride " someday eventually.. Lol

Its okay if it has to continue that way but the true value and purpose of this rites just like many other things are long lost

im talking abt akwa nkwu, meanwhile , by my estimations members of my umunna alone are in d upwards of 200, considering dt its a big one and even dose abroad will stil get der own share of drinks, long as der family members help pay deir dues for them. now if u hav 200 members in umunna, prbbly 170 will b married, giving us, 170 nwunyedis, den include d umu okpus. as i said , speak for urslf. meanwhile, my umunna dont include beverages in our list. u see? just drinks, palm wine and Hausa goats

Did you say umunna is upward of 200, 170 nwunyedi ? shocked shocked shocked

Bros, you dey confuse... Confuse dikwa gi n'isi...If your Umunna is up to 200, that means by the time they add everyone, they will reach a 1,000... shocked shocked Is that a whole village?

Well.....am an Igbo boy,but I am not fully in support of this part of our tradition.......I don't think there is anywhere in the world where 95% of the men there are rich. They should take into consideration the financial capability of the man in question and the future of the bride to be......but truth be told, there are many families who do not choke the guy with all these items that make up the list........just some who feel that they have to write their will into the life of their so called inlaw.....
