Just heard from a reliable source that the Warri refinery would be resuming operations tomorrow and that crude oil has actually been pumped to the plant to commence refining of various products. Can anyone confirm this.
Rumour also has it that the refinery has been functional but top management in NNPC were instructed not run the plant so as to allow importation of products.

Bro, you might be right. A man from warri( urhobo man) once told me nothing was wrong with the warri refinery. I argued vehemently with him.Now see this.
It simply means he knew what he was saying. Mind you he is into oil and gas business.

The refineries are all in good working condition, the PDP government intentional closed down the refineries so that they can be importing fuel and inflating subsidy. Didn't you all read in the news that impatience Jonathan has ships importing fuel into the country? How will she make blood money if the refineries are allowed to work. What of Obasanjo that has refineries outside the country? How will he make bllod money if our refineries here work?

BabaNoRegret is the saviour, he has not given any instruction, he has not sacked anybody, he has not arrested anybody or invite anyone for questioning, no ministers, no head of parastatals but everything is falling into place at the mention of the name Buhari. When the head is good, the whole body will be fine. But when the head is drunk with ogogoro and is in London hospital, the whole body will be staggering and fall into gutter. It is well with Nigeria and Nigerians. Amen.

Just came across this..... Let us wait and see if the information is indeed factual.

Succour may finally have come for Nigerians, after months of harrowing experiences occasioned by the ongoing scarcity of petroleum products, particularly petrol across the country.
Strong indications emerged Tuesday, that the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) would within a fortnight begin production at 50 per cent installed capacity.

According to Daily Independent investigation, the first consignment of crude oil for production at the company’s bay arrived on Monday, a development said to have sent members of staff of the company into wide jubilation after seeing barrels of crude oil being discharged for the first time in more than two years.

A barrel of crude would produce 73.8 liters of petrol when refined. This means that the Warri Refinery, with an installed capacity of 125,000 barrels per day would now be producing 62,500 barrels per day (at 50 per cent capacity), translating to 4,612,500 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) per day.

Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Joseph Dawha had last week announced that the Port-Harcourt Refinery would next month commence production of petroleum products.

A source close to the WRPC who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that some barrels of crude have been received in preparation for full production.

The source who added that the establishment received crude oil consignment last in 2012, noted that crude oil supply to the refinery was stalled by the immediate past government. This, the source added, resulted in massive importation of refined products by the Federal Government in preparation for their full privatisation.

He further disclosed that all the machines for the take off of production were also last Sunday switched on in readiness for production works in the company.

According to the source: “Yes, it is true that the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company limited is set to commence the refining of petroleum products. The production will start within the next 14 days from now. All the production machines were since last Sunday switched on in readiness for the production.

“I also want to inform you that the management has received crude oil for that purpose this week Monday. For over two years now we have not received crude oil as it was being sent to foreign refineries from where they were been imported back to the country as refined products.

“This started soon after the alleged planned privatization of the refineries by the immediate past administration which was also said to have targeted the sales to its selected cronies thereby placing the workers of the refining and petrochemical company on permanent state of redundancy for the past two years,” he added.

The source also alleged that minor turnaround maintenance was being carried out by those who had been allocated the refinery but was immediately put on hold soon after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost the presidential election.

It was however gathered that technical staff of the company who have been idle are already on hand, anxiously warming up to resume production as the management is determined and working hard to ensure that the anticipated two-week target is met

The man is right.. Nothing is wrong with the refinery at all... Npdc just stopped giving them crude saying that it is cheaper to import than refine here

FORMER President of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Peter Esele disclosed yesterday that the major problem of the country's refineries is lack of adequate crude allocation to refine.

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, he said that the country's refineries are working, and wondered why crude is not being allocated to Warri Refinery often by the authorities concern.

"The Warri Refinery is not as bad as it is being painted. The major problem is that it has no crude to refine often. Port Harcourt Refinery worked for 21 days in November last year and generated billions of naira. What has happened since then? I cannot confirm, but there is a school of thought which says that the refineries are being painted bad so that they can be sold to some vested interests at a give-away prices.

"Why is crude not allocated to our refineries often, whereas we export crude often to refine abroad? Why do we believe so much in carrying crude outside to refine? This is a food for thought for the incoming government", he queried.
