When my brother got to Tripoli around November and December 2014, he usually called me with this number +218928363481 but since january this year We've not heard from him and the number is not going through.

People have suggested diverse things. Like "you know Libya is a bad place, maybe he's in prison and can't make calls. " But I don't know exactly what is wrong or where he is and I don't even know how to find him.

I've been been thinking of what else to do apart from praying and hoping that he will return until I saw a similar topic here on Travel section of Nairaland, then I decided to share mine.

Pls if there is any way at all you can be of help to me, I'll sincerely appreciate because I don't know what else to do or where else to go. It could be that you know someone that can be of help, know someone that lives in Tripoli Libya and also have the person's contact , or have any information at all that can be of help.

It is a harsh fact but there is a trade in loading migrant people from Libya onto derelict ships to sail for Italy and Europe.
Many of these have sunk with a large loss of life, although some people have been rescued.
You should hold out hope, but be prepared as the reality of people trying that route which is very bad.

OP, please keep hope alive as the rest of us keep praying and believing with you that your brother will contact you/your family soonest and return home safely.

Frankly speaking, these online tales of missing persons really gives me the jitters. I can't honestly imagine why any sane human being will suddenly up and leave their homes to embark on such a high risk misadventure.
It is pertinent at this point and behoves on all on of us to use our various social media networks and all another useful platforms to educate the general public on the dangers of these kind of risky travels (to a supposed 'greener pasture') and why it is wise not to even think of attempting such.
So guys let's get the word out!

If he got in legally, I think the Nigerian commission over there should be your first contact in helping out source for information.

If it is or otherwise, you still need to stay positive. I believe you will hear from him soon.

For now no Nigerian commission in Libya cos of the serious problem going on in Libya and many blacks have lost their life during this crisis.....I lost 4 of my guys in Tripoli,Libya and some are still in prison but believe in God he may still be alive cos Libya no dey kill people like that unless na drug matter or na animal Musrata people...Keep praying

Why would somebody travel to a country that is war torn @op, so u didn't find out about libya before allowing your brother to go?? There is serious war going on and if he has the intention of crossing into italy,there is only one question I have, can he swim ? If he can't ,then I suggest u start serious prayers because over 1000 ppl have died this year alone while trying to cross into italy from libya,

likewise me too,I survived the dangerous high seas to gabon too , where we have rocks in the seas . The op and his brother must have spent close to 300k to 500k on a trip with less than 40% chance of survival.

If you know people there, perhaps you could ask them to see if they can find out anything about the op's brother.
