Taiwo Awoniyi: The New Bride of European Clubs
Meanwhile, Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi is hoping that the U20 star can bring his eye for goal to the senior team. Keshi has given the U20 striker the green light to lead the Super Eagles attack.
The 18-year-old scored a brace for Samson Siasia’s U23 squad in a recent All African Games qualifier in Lusaka, Zambia, and it would be only a matter of time before he makes his senior team debut.
Keshi told Goal that Awoniyi is ripe enough to lead the Eagles attack but must indicate his readiness to take that responsibility on the field of play.
“If you will recall, I gave Awoniyi his first call up to the Super Eagles sometimes ago because I know that he has the quality of a goal poacher who can deliver the goals when needed,” Keshi told Goal.
“But like I have always explained, playing for the age grade national teams is different from the Super Eagles.
Awoniyi is young and talented and has the quality of a good striker. So who says he can’t lead the Eagles attack? He just needs to be ready for the task and show it on the field of play which I believe the boy is capable of doing.”
However, father of Taiwo, Solomon Awoniyi, has said he used to beat his son to discourage him from playing football, but that he never knew Taiwo would play football to global level.
He said the football career of his son started during his elementary school days, noting that he (Taiwo) would always disappear from the house to play football and the whole family would be looking for him. Awoniyi praised the efforts of Taiwo’s coach, Rasaq Olojo, whom he said discovered and nurtured him.
He said the striker was part of the team that participated in a Coca Cola competition in Ibadan, which later earned him a trip to London in 2010, where former Nigerian football stars Nduka Ugbade and Seyi Olofinjana, spotted him in a competition Awoniyi was voted the most valuable player and came home with the award from London in 2010.
It however remains to be seen which team will eventually woe the Nigerian prodigy. Experts have however warned that he should be careful in his choice of club.

LoL....the beautiful thing about envy is that no matter how much you try to conceal it, like a flower in the spring, it will reveal it's self.

If Ugbade really felt so about Kelechi, you can imagine how his boss (who is now blaming the foreign guys for de-stabilizing his team) felt, he even took time to take a jab at Kelechi with the first team talk, such immaturity is disgraceful from a man old enough to father Nacho....it's obvious why we lost now.

You can never be a winner when you breed envy and pride within you. So, because the boy was making waves for City, they decided to literally stab his shine.

Iheanacho should be grateful to God, na so God dey expose pesin enemies. May we never encounter any Ugbade or Manu in our journey to success

Iheanacho, Yahaya, Isaac 'Promise' destabilized Flying Eagles – Coach

Nigeria U20 assistant coach, Nduka Ugbade feels that the technical crew’s limited time to work on the foreign-based players was the key reason why the Flying Eagles failed at the 2015 Fifa U20 World Cup in New Zealand, according to an interview with Goal.
Manchester City prodigy Kelechi Iheanacho, Tottenham’s Musa Yahaya and Granada striker Isaac Promise were all left to play mini roles in Nigeria’s campaign.
He blamed the lack of time for the foreign based players to blend in as reason why the African champions crashed out on the world stage in the second round after losing 1-0 to Germany.

Kelechi Iheanacho (r) controls the ball during the 6-goal thriller against Brazil.
“That was not what we expected considering what the team has achieved all through the year but at this point, it is very difficult to analyse what the situation is,” Ugbade said in an interview with Goal.
“The error we made was bringing the foreign-based players into the team and not having enough time to work with them. It really affected the team psychologically and it became very difficult to come out of it till we crashed out of the competition against Germany.
“For almost one year and a half, we had not worked together. The fitness level and tactical approach in U20 were totally different from what was obtainable at U17.”
The former Super Eagles player also explained why his team lost to Brazil and Germany in the championship.
“At the U17 level, it was training to compete while at the U20 level it was high performance. This affected our psyche. In our first game against Brazil, we were supposed to win because we created a lot of chances,” he continued.
“In terms of playing, there was limited technical ability on the part of individual players when compared with the South Americans, this really affected the team.
“Psychology comes into a game such as that coming from the belief that they scored a lot of goals in the group stage. The weather was too cold in Christchurch as well as the one in Plymouth and it affected us a lot.”

Fatai Alashe Relives Toulon Tourney Experience
Nigeria-born America U23 star Fatai Alashe has expressed satisfaction with his showing at the Toulon Invitational Tournament, where he helped the US finish third.
He said though he has played some games for the U23 national team before the Toulon tournament, the atmosphere and the tempo of the games were different.
“The competition was obviously a lot different,” Alashe said.
Alashe takes Earthquakes by storm
“I've played in some games for the U23s before, but those were mere friendlies. This wasn’t a major tournament though, but it was a competition and you could tell there was a lot more competitive spirit going into it, from every team participating.
“For me, it was definitely a good experience. I definitely did learn a lot and hopefully will be able to use that and continue growing.”
He scored in USA 3-2 win over Costa Rica in the bronze medal match.

Gent, Genk Jump into Race to Sign Saviour

Belgian champions Gent as well as another club in Belgium, Genk, have joined the race to sign Nigeria U20 and Olympic team star Godwin Saviour.
Saviour, 18, scored twice for Nigeria at the recent FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand and he is expected to play a big role as the country aim to qualify for next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Belgian clubs keen on Saviour
Gent and Genk, according to nieuwsblad.be on Monday, are ready to table offers for the exciting forward from FC Sports of Jos who also was on Nigeria squad to the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup in United Arab Emirates.
Incidentally, Saviour’s U20 teammates feature for these clubs – Moses Simon is with Gent and helped them to win an historic league championship this past season, while Wilfred Ndidi is on the books of Genk, who failed to make the championship playoffs.
Moses Simon’s appearance at the World Cup was restricted because of Saviour’s form.
Simon has already tipped his room mate at the World Cup to strike it big in Europe because of his professional attitude and talent.

Hamburg to Table Offer for Skipper Musa MohammedGerman Bundesliga club Hamburg SV will this week table an offer for Flying Eagles skipper Musa Mohammed, AfricanFootball.com has exclusively learnt.
Top scouts of the Bundesliga club have been monitoring Musa for several months now, but cooled their interest after they thought he had already moved to Turkey.
But further investigations have shown that is not the case and they are now expected to make a presentation to the board after which a formal offer will be tabled not later than this week.
Rosenborg chase Flying Eagles skipper
The player’s agent Adam Mohammed confirmed to AfricanFootball.com that Hamburg have contacted him, but declined further comments.
Incidentally, the agent also transferred Macauley Chrisantus to Hamburg soon after he top scored at the 2007 FIFA U17 World Cup.
Musa Mohammed, 18, from FC Hearts Abuja also has an offer from Turkey and top Norwegian club Rosenborg have also expressed interest in the player widely tipped to soon make his full international debut for Nigeria.
Last season, Hamburg barely escaped relegation from the German top flight after they finished a disappointing 16thon the table.

Why I called-up ‘club-less’ Alampasu – Siasia

The Chief Coach of the national U-23 team, Samson Siasia, has defended his invitation of Flying Eagles goalkeeper, Dele Alampasu, to the Dream Team VI in preparation for an All Africa Games Qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville.
Siasia, who was forced to respond after critics faulted the goalie’s call-up because he is club-less at the moment, toldSportingLifein Abuja, yesterday, that he had faith in Alampasu’s ability.
The Olympics silver medal-winning coach said Alampasu has had the quality of a good goalkeeper right from when he helped the Golden Eaglets to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2013 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He observed that it was this quality that won the goalie a place in the Flying Eagles team that campaigned in the last FIFA U- 20 World Cup in New Zealand.
“Let me be very honest as regards the issue of Dele Alampasu,” Siasia began. “I invited him based on what I have seen as regards his goalkeeping qualities. These qualities Aloy Agu our goalkeeping coach has also attested to.
“The issue of not having a club or Dele (Alampasu) not playing for a team now does not really matter to me. So far as he can prove himself in the training exercises we are doing and he is at the level we require, he will always be a part of the team.
“I don’t know this guy (Alampasu) from anywhere other than watching him play at the 2013 FIFA U- 17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. After this he was also in Manu Garba’s team to the New Zealand FIFA U- 20 World Cup.”
He continued: “The question I want to ask you guys is that, was he playing for a club side when he made the U- 20 squad for the World Cup? That is to show that Dele Alampasu has that quality in him that the coaches have seen to make the age-grade national teams. I should be seen not to kill his spirit but to encourage him. So I need to give him a chance to fight for a shirt in the team like I have given to others and will still give.
“So, it is important for me to help him complete the circle and also give him the opportunity to fight for shirts in the team. If Dele makes the regular squad, then it’s fine, if not somebody else will play in that position. Anybody that is close to me knows that when it comes to the national team’s selection of players I pick the players that will help me actualise my ambition and target for the team. No family affairs, no friendship in national team business, it’s strictly the best players that would make the squad and play”, Siasia explained.
Siasia recently called to camp eight players from the squad that participated in the finals of the last FIFA U- 20 World Cup to join the Dream Team VI that is preparing for battle against Congo in the qualification series for the 2016 Olympics Football Tournament. The players include: Kelechi Iheanacho, Musa Yahaya, Moses Simon, Musa Muhammed, Dele Alampasu, Taiwo Awoniyi, Kingsley Sokari and Saviour Godwin.

Awoniyi Will Soon Be in Good Hands Assures Olofinjana

by Samm Audu
Taiwo Awoniyi’s future will be guaranteed by the time he signs for a club in Europe, according to ex-international and owner of Imperial Academy Seyi Olofinjana.
Speculations have been rife about the future destination of Nigeria U20 and Olympic international Awoniyi especially after his recent five-star showings.
However, Olofinjana told AfricanFootball.com that every care is being taken to ensure Awoniyi’s future is guaranteed when he finally makes the big move to Europe.
“We can understand the high expectations surrounding the player’s transfer and that is the more reason we are putting everything into consideration before we commit on his next move,” Olofinjana told AfricanFootball.com from his home in England.
“What is uppermost is the boy’s development, where he will get a decent chance to grow as a footballer.
“We get offers from almost everywhere in the world for him on a daily basis, but we also all know that nothing can happen before he turns 18 in August when he can then sign a pro deal.
“His family is very much up to speed with what is going on and we expect him to now focus on playing for the Nigeria Olympic team before his next birthday and I believe with the amount of work we have put in, he will be in very good hands very soon.”
French club Monaco, FC Porto from Portugal and Red Bull Salzburg of Austria are among the clubs who have tabled offers for the striker.

Everton Make Move for OdubajoThe 21-year-old was a key part of Mark Warburton's side as they made a surprise run to the Championship play-offs last season, and is now attracting interest from the Toffees

Everton have made a move for Brentford's Moses Odubajo, Goal has learned.
The 21-year-old joined Brentford in a £1 million deal from Leyton Orient last summer, despite interest from a number of Premier League sides.
Odubajo was one of the star performers as the Bees made a surprise run to the Championship play-offs, and he now looks set to be playing top-flight football next term.
Both Everton and current boss Roberto Martinez have not been shy in raiding the Football League, with John Stones and James McCarthy plucked from outside the Premier League in recent years.
Now Goal has learned that Everton have made their move for Odubajo, who can play on the right side of defence and midfield.
Meanwhile, Seamus Coleman is again being linked with a move to Manchester United, whose attempts to sign Dani Alves and Nathaniel Clyne has failed to come to fruition so far this summer.

NFF Denies Abandoning Dream Team

Abuja – The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday criticised a report at which national speculated that federation has abandoned the U-23 National Team, Dream Team VI.
This is contained in a statement on the NFF website.
The Dream Team VI has been campaigning for a place in 2016 Olympic Games to be hosted by Brazil in Rio De Janeiro.
Ademola Olajire, NFF spokesman, said It was strange for the report to claim that the U-23 team was seeking to qualify for the All Africa Games, when it had since secured a place in the soccer event of the Games.
“For almost three months after the team defeated Zambia in Lusaka to earn a spot at the Games coming up in Congo, Sept. 4 to Sept. 19’’.
It said the NFF had never shirked its responsibility of catering for any of the National Teams.
The statement added that was not true that the team had been training and playing its friendly games in adidas kits, and that the officials were owed allowances.
The federation noted that team played a friendly match against Wikki Tourists in Bauchi at which they used NIKE kits.
It said that the report was a calculated attempt to set sponsors, NIKE, against Nigeria, saying this was not in the interest of the country.
It, then appealed to the media to always seek clarification on issues before publishing.
The Dream Team VI will take on the U-23 National Team of Congo in the final round, first leg qualifying match in Port Harcourt on July 19.

Amiesimaka Stadium to Host Olympic Quaifiers
By: Sammy Wejinya

The Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium will play host to two 2016 Olympic qualifiers involving Nigerian teams in July.
African champions, the Super Falcons will continue their quest to reach the Women’s football event of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero when they face Equatorial Guinea on July 18.
Nigeria’s Under-23 men’s team (the Dream Team VI) will then face Congo’s under-23s at the same venue 24 hours later.
The Rivers State Executive governor, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has now set up an 11-man Main Organizing Committee (MOC) which is includes former international, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka, Executive Committee member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Barrister Chris Green and headed by Boma Iyaye.
The governor says it is important for Rivers State to host the matches in hit-free fashion.
“We need this hosting to be a success because it will let the outside world know that they can invest in Rivers State.
“This is the first crucial administration that will be undertaking as it concerns bringing the world to Rivers State,” governor Wike said.
Iyaye says Rivers State is set to play the “perfect hosts” as the Falcons and Dream Team look to march into the Olympics.
“Nigeria did not compete in both the men’s and Women’s football events of the last Olympics and we want to see that it does not happen again this time.
“Rivers State has a great history of hosting the national teams and this will be no different. We did it most recently in 2003 and 2011 and this will be special as well,” Iyaye told supersport.com.
Also speaking ahead of the upcoming internationals, Amiesimaka explained that the choice of Rivers State as hosts represents a masterstroke by the NFF.
“Football is a very popular sport. We expect all and sundry to be part of it and considering the scale of the respective events, there is certain to be mass appeal so we require the support of all to make this a huge success.
“We want to use this unique opportunity to showcase the enormous potential of Rivers State in all ramifications,” he said.
The Super Falcons reached this round of qualifying while the Dream Team VI drew bye and will meet the Congolese who overcame Ghana in the first round of qualifying.

Tiago Abiola Ilori Eyeing European Success With Portugal U21s

The defender, who is still eligible to play for Nigeria at senior level, is looking to be fit enough for tonight’s European final against Sweden
By Lolade Adewuyi
Liverpool’s Tiago Ilori will hope to win the European U21 Championship on Tuesday night with Portugal when they take on Sweden in the final in the Czech Republic.
Still eligible to play for Nigeria via his father, Tiago Abiola Ilori, 22, has been a part of the Portuguese youth set up from the U18s and looks set to crown it all with a win tonight.
Even though he sat out Saturday’s semi final 5-0 whitewash of Germany through a thigh injury, Ilori could return to the starting line up against the Swedes.
Portugal are searching for their first victory at the U21s after failing to win it in 1994 when Luis Figo and co reached the final but lost 1-0 to Italy.
William Carvalho and Bernardo Silva have been in inspired form going into the final making Portugal favourites to lift their first title.
Reaching the final means Portugal have qualified for the 2016 Olympic football event in Rio.

Ireland’s First Route to Rio Closes After Australia Defeat
Craig Fulton’s Side Face Pakistan on Friday as They Bid to Finish Fifth and Possibly Qualify

Australia 4 Ireland 1
Ireland’s first potential route to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 was firmly closed in Antwerp on Wednesday as world number one side Australia ran out 4-1 winners in their World League Round 3 quarter-final.
For a long time, Matt Gohdes’s goal was all that stood between the Kookaburras and Craig Fulton’s Irish team. Had Alan Sothern’s juggling act seen the ball slip just inside the post instead of 20 centimetres off target, things could have been different.
But Australia always had the class. Five time world player of the year Jamie Dwyer killed off the game a minute after Sothern’s big chance, jinking in and out of two players on halfway to instigate a move and subsequently roared into the circle to deflect home the final touch of a scintillating team move.

You guys are doing an awesome job. Please keep it up.

I hope Man City look into signing Simon Moses. I feel the whole Raheem Sterling Drama is not worth it. Simon will offer more pace and skill to City and he will give Pellegrini more chance to carve Simon to his taste.

Turkish Club Hooks Flying Eagles Skipper

Flying Eagles skipper, Musa Mohammed, has signed a three-year contract with an ambitious Turkish club, Istanbul Basaksehir FK, africanFootball.com reports.
The team affectionately called IBB finished fourth in the Turkish Super League last season and will feature in the UEFA Europa League in the 2015/16 season.
The Istanbul based club has built a spanking new stadium and enjoy massive support from the Turkish government.
Mohammed almost joined another Turkish club Besiktas after training for several months with the team last year, but the top Istanbul giants officials failed to meet their obligations.
He has already arrived Istanbul after he took permission from Dream Team coach, Samson Siasia, not to be part of the team’s training camp in Abuja so that he could sort out his future.

If these guys had reached the finals of the U20 World Cup, most of them would have got very good offers even those that were signed by other clubs would have got new & better offers.

Yes like they say to the winner goes the spoils, if we won they would have been heroes but that shouldn't take much away from them they can still climb. As of now the market for Africans is not good I believe Alex Song is worth 5mil while Sterling is worth 50.

We have to remember that agegrade competitions are nice if you win but they really don't matter in the long run would Ozil accept to trade his world cup for Messi's u-20 and Olympic gold? I think not.
