Woged2005:
Some Nigerian women abroad are practical disgrace to our country and to motherhood. I was in a mall few hours ago watching a very shameful display of public disgrace by a Nigerian woman (in her late 30s or so) arguing with her husband right in the line at the register..screaming and calling him unprintable degrading names. The woman obviously looks like she is the bread-winner (but I don't know) I wished I didn't greet them earlier so people wouldn't know we came from the same county. I must say the man is a cultured gentleman who stopped talking once his wife's voice went up. He even left the line and walked back and the lady kept screaming and calling her husband names, narrating to thin air things people don't need to know... and at some point screamed "..you will force me to divorce your azzzz..." wo! wo!! wo!! embarassed The most appalling is that their little kids are their watching. Can't this type of argument wait till you get home? I walked away in shame.

Please my sistas we are not the only ones that came to America and met 'Freedom' and 'rights' but the way some of us misuse it is shocking. Indians, and Chinese saw the same freedom too but use it to build 'empires'. Let's start showing some family values. You men, please be careful the type of women you marry and bring abroad. All this una one month Facebook friendship and arrangee hookup without proper dating and courtship is your undoing. Look beyond physical looks and appearances.

Hi-Fives tor all those naija sistas out there doing us proud, and representing good family values we are known for. God bless ya sistas!!!

It's unfortunate that a lot of us cant keep our tempers under control

But I have to say that sometimes the man has been agitating the woman for a very long time, until she is ready to burst...

Because some men are very cunning they will make the woman look like she is the one causing all the trouble, but really he is secretly pinching her under the table...

I am sure the woman in question could never imagine herself doing such a thing when she first set out for the US but pressures of life and work abroad, money stress, home sickness, isolation and other things can really change a person

Not condoning the lady's actions but its something to consider...

I grew up in Nigeria.
I've seen women tie their husband's collar screaming obscenities at them in places as public as Nigerian market.

Aggressive people are aggressive regardless of gender or location. When someone says you're behaving like a market woman, the implication is that you're being loud, rude and aggressive. Same way a guy is termed a tout or agbero if he's being unruly and violent. These example are common average everyday Nigerians. So pls tell me again what freedom or being in America has to do with it.

Ummm where is the gentleman Ness if he told the cashier not to ring up her purchase? ? That was plain and slyly rude plus embarrassing. There are better ways to prevent your wife from buying something. Not saying what she did was right but guys know your woman personality.

I think the man was objecting to something she wanted to buy and told the cashier not to ring it up, and all hell let loose and all demons left the gates of hell and raced down into the woman grin grin grin grin grin What can cause this type of uncontrollable Anger? I guess they are both used to belittling each other in public. As if she's his errant child and he her errant child.

Come to think of it, OP assumed she's the breadwinner, how is it that he's the one telling the cashier not to ring up her purchase. He controls how she spends 'her money'?

Hmmmm! Many posts here might be right. I don't know what's going on between them at home. Perhaps my shock is that I was raised as a home-girl not to raise my voice not to talk of screaming in the public. When I was a little girl I got into a school fight with a boy (because I attended a Co-ed). My mom was more furious that what if the boy stripped me and disgraced me in the public. Maybe i was wrong by saying that it was caused by freedom in the USA. but A lady should be a lady. Honestly I detest people who call names during arguments, be they men or women. It's just too petty. when u call names you are avoiding the issues.

There is nothing judgemental / busybodyish / gbeborunish about Wodge's post.

When that uncouth wife chose to shout out her private matters in public, she made her "ish" everyone's business.

The acute Angry Black Women (ABW) syndrome I alluded to.

No matter the class, the nationality, or upbringing - black women are always angry. It is innate. However, the level of anger differs from one person to the other. grin

One angry black chic still told me she was gonna fvck me up yesterday cos I was messing about with one of her friends. But I just had to laugh it off cos if I decide to smack her putrid mouth, then I'll become a bully. How do black women get so brave that they're not even scared of people twice their size? grin

And where the hell is "Shollypopzz" my frenemy?

This is the type of cause you ought to be championing - diagnosing why the average black woman is innately angry, rather than chasing patriarchy around like the three lost generations of black diaspora, the lost Kingdom of Atlantis, and MLK's dream that became a nightmare. grin

Darn! Sholly done change - you used to ride shotgun with me and ride for me, what happened? Sudden discovery of the evils of patriarchy? tongue

Op its not a nigerian woman thing, its the inability to control temper for some people(both men and women). I've seen men belittle their wives in public places, like shut her down like she's some dumb bimbo!

People should generally learn how to address their spouses not only in public but also in private.

When you are in Nigeria, the anger one display if not careful you carry it over.

Let say it's in the blood.
I use to carry umbrella to the market then, used for sun and to flog all those boys holding your arms ..and try to pull you along all in the name of "fine girl buy from my shop".

N'a my umbrella I dey take flog them.

Either passively/covertly or overtly, black women are just naturally angry. Why?

most of the ones I know are not aggressive. As for those that are aggressive I take it as their temperament.

But it is wrong to say the average black woman is passively or covertly aggressive, can we also say the average nigerian man is also aggressive?
About 2 weeks back, I was with a deputy vice chancellor of one of these federal institutions in Nigeria, I was really ashamed of walking/working with him when he displayed his lack of anger management skills. One would expect that with his pedigree and exposure he would put up a better attitude in face of pressure.

My point is, anybody can lack anger management skills wether male or female, black or white. Its basically about your temperament.

Lol, Jade, you might not be overtly aggressive - but I do believe you act passive-aggressive all the time. That's how black women are innately due to excessive testosterone.

Watch these two videos (watch the first one before going over to the second one - it's the same woman on both videos) and tell me what you think (hahahahahaha):

eheenhen so that's how it is now. You're now taking sides with Woged. Instead of facing the issue you're taking sides. That analysis of the drama that Woged explained can happen ANYWHERE be it hamerika, landan or ny-ji-riya. and for your information a lousy woman is a lousy woman regardless of whether she's in a free society or a caged society. It has nothing to do with her being in "hamereeka"

I'm not taking sides.

Fact is, the issue here is the woman's very big mouth. It matters not where she's located. Shebi you've heard the saying: "You can take someone out of the village, but you can't take the village out of the person"? That's exactly what's happened in the story Woged2005 narrated. Only thing is, this woman is not even village material, but bushmeat material.

I blame the man.he must have taking some sh!t for so long that got to this level.there is no justification for that B!tch's public disgrace of herself, her children and husband before a crowd.i wont even take that in private.see how messed up the American society is.see how the wests and its social laws have turned married men to wimps.its no surprise why they lament now.hope any bipolar b!tch that makes any sorta excuse for this is married to a "Real man" like him.expecially now b!tches are dying like flies.
