Read before you comment. Nobody stops you from opening a new account with BVN inclusive but they are saying about account holders and not otherwise. Again, you can see the penalty:no atm, internet transactions etc. Failure is that you remain analog in the digital world and wors is that your account will be prone to diverse fraud. You will remain vulnerable and without walls of protection. Do it now and be among the 14 million wise Nigerians instead of waiting for an extention.

If someone wanting to open account can get a BVN after the expiry date,why can't an account holder get a BVN after expiry date?

If they block my ATM and online transactions on 30th june,what stops me from going on 1st of july to do my BVN and reactivate my atm?


Do you think its easy for them to cope?

They will loose many customers,there will be chaos,customers will flood inside the bank to use analog,more work for them,and most importantly do you know how much gain from online and Atm banking system?

I think you are correct. Nothing stops you from A emptying your Bank account now and opening a new one 1st or B wait till 1st go over the counter to withdraw your money. BVN would not prevent anyone from collecting their cash the old fashioned way.I still go to the Bank to collect cash as the ATM has limits in disbursement anyways.

There should be no deadline for BVN registration

The bank should have current customers do the BVN registration before the next new transaction can be completed.

There should be a BVN registration section that is open during normal banking hours for old and new customers.

Customers expecting the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to extend the deadline for the Bank Verification Number (BVN) exercise may be disappointed as CBN has ruled out the possibility.


Leadership reports that Ibrahim Mu’azu, director,corporate communications, CBN, confirmed that the deadline for registration is tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30, 2015.

He explained further that bank customers were given adequate time and that the bank expected they should have taken advantage of the period scheduled for the exercise to register.

Contrary to the speculation that customers who do not have BVN will be prevented from making transactions, such as payments and withdrawals, Mu’azu said only customers using remote access services: internet banking,Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and other on-line services would not be able to transact.

He also confirmed that over 14 million bank customers have already registered.

For Nigerians in diaspora to participate in the exercise, CBN has also directed banks to provide online platforms for those who have local accounts to register.
