Hi, Nice job you did here. If i may ask, where did you buy the vinyl film from. Was it here in Nigeria/Lagos.
Would you please give me the detail address too.
Been searching for a while before hitting this thread. Thanks

Hi, I bought it off Amazon UK. Had it shipped down through Mall4Africa. Total cost wasn't more than 3k.
It wasnt a large piece, just 1 foot by 5 feet. But it worked nicely for my needs

Dont just scan it parked, drive it for at least 10 miles so that any codes/warning lights that were cleared would reappear.

Bring it back and scan it very well. get a BMW OBD code list to interprete what codes come up. If none come up, you are golden.

If some come up, interprete and check the severity and fixability before handing over your cash

Hello All, please I am looking for specialist bmw mechanics in Abuja to try out.

There seems to be a lack of them in Abuja.

Im new to BMWs in Nigeria but not new to BMWs in general (10 yrs driving experience)

I'm done withe generalist mechanics. Specifically looking for one that can understand codes, diagnose drivetrain and engines issues.

Vehicle 330xi E90.

Cheers!

If the fixes are these cheap. I bet the owner wont be selling.
He must probably be tired of fixing and frustrated hence the reason for selling.
I once said on the thread that "a nigerian used bmw is like a hooker with HIV" to a large extent. E no dey show 4 face.Though i might be wrong.

I will buy a nigerian used bmw, only if my wife is the previous owner.

It would have been really nice to do a restoration project on this car. Just finished reading Tdie's restoration project on his Audi A4 and Shagati's bmw restoration project.

I, Shagati would buy it at that price and budget N1m for a slightly over the top restoration which would include wheels, tyres, pearl paint job and a full electrical revamp.

A fully functioning E60 at N1.6m is not a bad idea.
I would be careful with that a/c though. I've had a nasty experience trying to sort out a VW a/c before but that was years ago.

A/c compressor had a physical hole in it when I bought the car. Small thing I thought to myself.

Part 1. Mech A. (multi purpose A/c tech)
Bought the compressor, condenser (with incorporated evaporator) and dryer. Total cost incl labour etc = N220,000
Lasted 3 days. Took it back to Mech A.
Apparently he bought a Merc ML compressor and 'worked' it to fit.

Part 2. Mech A.
He bought the correct items this time. Fitted and fixed. Total cost = N140,000
A/c worked super cold!
Worked perfectly for 9 months. Took it to Mech B.

Part 3. Mech B (VAG a/c specialist)
Bought the usual suspects and fitted. Cost N180,000
A/c cold as ice during installation. Picked up the car later in the evening.
Nothing.

Part 4
Ordered brand new parts (comp. condenser and dryer) from the states. (Cant even recall the cost)
Delivered.
Fixed by Mech B.
Picked it up on a day there was traffic non stop from his place to my house.
A/c was so cold I was complaining to my driver.
Got into my estate, revved to 4000rpm, a/c went kaput.

Everytime the a/c went kaput, there would be black sludge in the system so there was a cycle of endless flushing. With compressed air, with petrol, with thinner etc

Bros Lomomike, if you don't mind, I am tired of typing.

Please pals, i have a car that has been running without thermostat. The check engine keeps coming up indicating "cooling system malfunction". After some research, I understood that the code signifies that the car is taking too long to warm up. That makes sense as the car has no thermostat.
So I tried to put in a thermostat into the housing and drove the car. After less than 5min of driving, my temperature gauge hit the red zone. When I opened the hood, the coolant in the radiator was boiling. BUT I noticed the thermostat housing barely got warm. If the housing is cold, the thermostat won't open and the fan switch won't trigger the fan, that is fast overheating for me. I removed the thermo again and the overheating dissappeared. Fan still runs intermittently, being controlled by the temperature in the housing.

The question now is, why didn't the water in the thermostat heat up with the engine? What are the possible causes?
Thanks

A lot of things can cause overheating.
1. Bad thermostat, even if you've bought a faulty one will still over heat.
2. Bad water pump
3. blown head gasket, warped cylinder heads
4. Blocked pipes,
5. Bad heater core,
6. Leaking radiator and pipes,
7. Air bubbles in radiator
8. Bad radiator cover
9. Use of water only in collaboration with high temp opening thermostat
10. Improper cooling system bleed job.

Just got delivered from a similar experience to yours with my Camry 2007. I discovered that there was a welded blockage on the AC discharge hose. Did you change any of the hoses in any of the four fixes you had ?

U will need more than just engine. A new set of wire which includes ecu.

The m54 engine is not expensive and is also very fuel efficient. Except u have abused it. It also less problematic. Instead of the proposed conversion, jst close eye buy the engine ur car requires b4 ur mech goes to church to do thanksgiving cos of u.

I recently bought a BMW 316i (2014). Nice car enjoyable ride, but i have some issues:

(1) I always put tracking system on my cars but now for this car, coscharis(where i bought the car) advice me not to temper with the electric system by putting a tracking system. They Advice me to use comprehensive insurance. So, pls, can somebody tell me if is really not safe to install a tracking system on my BMW or will the comprehensive insurance be a better option.

(2) No spare tire or jack! Does it really work? The BMW came with a run flat tire. How reliable it that? i haven't had a punctured tire since i stated driving the car, but what if when i have. BMW claim that, i can go 100km with a flat tire, that will give me enough time to drive to my BMW dealers to repair the tire. Pls, is there an easier way to deal with this issue? I honestly prefer the spare tire.

Hi Connectificate!
I don't really know abt fixing trackers causing problems or otherwise, but I know pretty well abt the RFTs, as I have traveled over 80kms at btw 60-80kmh on my way to kaduna with a BMW 530i 2005 with RFTs cause my spare was bad. And current I use a BMW 328xi 2008 whch doesn't come with a spare at all and RFTs are working fine.
