NOUN was not targeted at the young people. Its mainly for people who are working dats why their slogan is 'work and learn'. I did n an MBA programme with them-each time I'm in the study center, I always wonder when I see young boys n girls who should be in a conventional university. I advice that for 1st degree go to a conventional university where u will be properly tutored. For post graduate degrees its ok at NOUN cos ordinarily one does not require much of tutorship except if your 1st degree is questionable.

@ chowlade, Nursing science has been given interim accredition as at march 2015.
Do more research before using the anonymity of Nairaland to commit defamation/ libelous acts.

Most of the points you raised are blatant ignorant lies that is meant to cause confusion and to destabilise the students and prospective students who will benefit from the institution.
NOUN was modelled from Indira ghandi open university in India. And surely, it is one of many around the globe that carter for working class that needs more knowledge. It is facing challenges but honestly not what you wrote here.

Major challenge of NOUN I am expecting to see in the poorly researched article was problems associated with computer and network.

Well let me start by quoting you wrongly on what you've see or heard about NOUN. Am a student of the gr8 institution and don't forget that this a established university during Obasanjo regime. With the current increment in school fees, I believe that no institution is left out of this in as much Nigeria education is concern. Also, about the conduct of the student, let us belief is a general problem because one or two students of NOUN are leaving a miserably life does not mean you should tag all students in NOUN. And moreover every institution has this same problem. Furthermore, on the study centers you mention, NOUN is an Open Distance Learning (ODL) which is totally different from conventional universities like OAU,AAUA,UI,NSUKA,ABU,EKSU,UNILAG etc. So there mode of operation is absolutely different Ma! That is why NOUN has study centers across the nation and mind you any NOUN center you see that looks shabby and dirty I think the director in that center must be call to order, as a patriotic Nigeria, you've the optimum right to forward a letter to them to renovate their environment. In addition, NOUN is purposely met for those already working either government work or businessman but who need a degree certificate to upgrade his or her level at work. So flush out those mischievous issues bothering your mind concerning NOUN. God bless!

Stop embarrassing your closed university. It's gotten and given. You have to learn your tenses well from your readily available reading materials before you go for NYSC and disgrace yourself. peace.

6. NOUN student doesn't participate in the compulsory NYSC
--- This has no educational or economic relevance. Polytechnic and college of education graduates are also barred from NYSC.

7. NOUN student are less Employed on the field due to lack
of experience
--- How?

9. Students do not attend lectures in Noun, they only read
their course materials which are not always readily available
for collection in their School library
--- Same as doing a correspondence course during the 30's to 90's or an online course. Its convenient for the working class and does not diminish the quality of education.

10. Young NOUN Students are easily turn into destitute. My
neighbors that are studying in NOUN, Smoke Weed/Cigarette,
Alcohol, Womanize e.t.c till they eventually graduate.
--- This is not peculiar to NOUN.

11.NOUN Student are not researchers.
--- How? Is this peculiar to NOUN?

. NOUN is not on Nigeria university rankings according to
the best institution in Nigeria. so therefore not competing
with the conventional universities
--- A lot of universities aren't. A lot of universities also don't cater to the working class.

14. There is total confusion in the System.
--- How?

You better do your research right before running your mouth. Lack of knowledge is a disease. You that graduated from conventional university, how many research works were you able to do while in university? Sebi na copy copy project yo do.I have seen many graduates that cannot spell their names and they finished from acclaimed almighty conventional universities. The thirst for Intellectual development varies from man to man. If you put some people for MIT. if they don't have quest for knowledge nothing can be done to change that. Well, its just a pity that even after all your write ups, NOUN graduates will become political and economic leaders in this country.

Take a look at today, Your President Muhammadu Buhari is a man whose Secondary school and Tertiary education is unverifiable, Obasanjo was an OND holder. Holders of NOUN degrees will enter into office you may never be able to enter, that's when you'll know that life isn't about running helter skelter to succeed, you just watch.

I will firstly want to know the motive of this post, if it is to condemn the system or complain to the right institution. That being said, I will also want to know if the poster is a student of noun or one of those outsiders who badmouth the system (and I am not sure she is because some if not most of what she said is not true). I will also want to know the source or sources of the poster of her research to know that noun students do not research. While she's answering that, has she been to Ilorin, Port Harcourt centers among other centers to know that noun students don't receive lectures. I doubt if she knows the meaning of Open University that she said course materials are not readily available. What are lie! Visit the school website and see all the courses materials. I know a lecturer of a conventional university who visits noun courseware for his lectures. And you said nysc , I have said it before and will say it again. Open university students are not expected to serve, students that are clamouring for it are only disturbing their selves or doing so out of ignorance. And you also mentioned students turning to destitute, now tell me which institution does not have smokers, prostitutes among others.
Like I said earlier, few of the things said by the op is right and many are wrong.
Again, I will want to know the motive of this post. If it is to complain to the right channel, I agree, if it is to condemn it, well na bad market.

I would like to tell you that there is an IR divergence-The USA's economy and the European's economy. In other words, always bear on the rise of EU every time. Expecting Janet Yallen to sound hawkish, hence, gradually hike in rate, say 25bp. By the year end, EU will go as low as 1.03... Trade with just 10% of ur live funds....
