ibro360: pls how do i rebuild power steering pump as i plan on doing such for my golf 3.

why would want to rebuild a power steering pump ?

based on UK standards i have never heard any mechanic saying he wants to rebuild a steering pump as long it is working fine leave it alone

as long the pump has enough fluid it should be fine if it dies most due to wear and tear get a replace

Piyke: Hello everyone,

This tread is for car DIY enthusiasts to share their DIY history or list planned ones. I guess (Siena's will fill the whole Nairaland cheesy)

Here a list of my past DIYs (on 2003 Accord 4cyl, LX, US spec)
1. Fuel pump assembly change (2011)
2. Oil and filter changes (Every 3 months)
3. Power steering o-ring change( this was to fix a whine that occurs each time the car was cold) 2011
4. Serpentine belt replacement. (2013)
5. Transmission fluid replacement (2013)
6. Throttle body cleaning (As needed)
7. Replacement of AC relay (2011)

Planned DIYs
1. Replacement of Automatic tensioner
2. Power Steering rebuild (replacement of seals. Current one leaks from one of the seals)
3. Coolant flush.

As you list yours remember to state the vehicle and trim. You never know you may solve a fellow Nairalander's problem.

I have now performed all above listed DIYs. That for the coolant flush can be found in this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/1541197/coolant-drain-flush-refill-diy

I will open a thread to deal with the Power steering rebuild and the replacement of my Automatic Tensioner. Watch out for it if interested!

ibro360: pls wer can i get d o-ring of honda accord 2005 V6,the power steering pump makes a whining noise every morning and d fluid reservior hav small bubbles.

To further nail the diagnosis, does the whine increase when you turn the steering to any side at startup?
Does the whine reduce after the car has heated up?
Does the sound return with full force after the car has cooled down and you start it again no matter the time of day?

If the answer to all these questions are yes then the most likely cause is PS inlet o-ring (This is the hose that goes from the reservoir to the pump. loosen the size 10 bolt and you'll find the o-ring). I got mine from the US but I'm sure if you take it to a parts market you should be able to get it. Best of luck. It would not take up to 10mins to replace

I bought a 2003 Toyota Hilux Single Cabin 4x4.

I planned things would happen to it.
Things happened to it.
Things are still happening to it.
Things will continue to happen to it.

Like education, modifications, upgrades and improvements are endless.

Such is evolution.

Recently completed DIYs apart from previously listed:

1. Fuel filter cleaning.
2. Servicing of right front wheel brake calliper: A worn seal was leaking brake fluid that made the handbrake light come on despite the handbrake not being engaged. Brought down the calliper, took it to Camp (Enugu) where the offending seal was replaced then I remounted it and bled the system.
3. Adjusted handbrake height (4-7 clicks): I have noticed that Accords unlike Toyota's need more frequent adjusting of drum brakes.
4. Inspected and cleaned spark plugs.
5. Attempted replacing PCV valve: Can you imagine, got a Berck and Arnley PCV valve (From US) for the I4 03 Accord and while fixing it the part broke angry on tightening. I just cleaned the old one with petrol and put it back. I am going to leave a 1-star review for the part on Amazon from where I bought it angry . Thank God the old one still rattles.
6: Cleaned EGR valve

Still plan the following:
1. Transmission filter replacement
2. Change brake fluid
3. Replace air cleaner element with OEM cheesy (Part already arrived)

For me, I'm more of an exterior guy. I don't do too many engine related DIY unless it's not too difficult. I use a 2008 Honda accord.

Changed my headlights with angel eyes/ leds . Also installed a hid ballast/bulbs underneath the bumper. Not easy AT ALL.

changed the logos to all red (front and back)

Installed under-car lighting (led)

Colored my brake calipers red..

LOL. I don't know. Probably tells you that Nigerians aren't too interested in this stuff.

Changed the display to a touchscreen GPS unit (from China) in my 2008 accord. Complete with map of Nigeria, video and audio player (through USB/Memory card) and reverse camera. Sweet...

Sir how much was the cost of the whole installment and I like the pics I am seeing it would be very useful for someone like me who doesn't know so many roads in Lagos.

I bough mine for RMB1500 (which was about 45k at the time) while in China. However you cannot get that price unless you're there. Go on www.aliexpress.com and they have many there. They quote crazy prices ($800 etc), but if you talk with the seller or browse extensively, you will get it for cheaper. Also insist on free shipping. Also they are of 2 variants based on the OS they run. This one i posted runs Windows Mobile and is cheaper, but i advice going for the ones that run android as they can be customized to no end.

E.g: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/-/32444076900.html

As for the installation, I did it myself at home. Once you know where all the screws and clips are located, its actually a piece of cake. If you don't want to, I can send you the link to a video on youtube so that you can guide whoever you decide to use (These panel beaters will just break everything if you leave them). If you drive the same car, i have a few spare reverse camera kits i can sell for a hefty profit..

2. Change brake fluid
3. Replace air cleaner element with OEM cheesy (Part already arrived)

All those planned, I have carried out. In addition, I've replaced my valve cover gasket, checked valve clearances, replaced vtc filter assembly, replaced vtec solenoid spool valve filter, changed secondary O2 sensor and a still have a few tasks planned. Will list them in a bit.
