I'm a little surprised there are handful of people that don't know who Deinde Fernandez was. Truly there are many kids on Nairaland. In the 1980s and 90s, years before Dangote, Adenuga and Otedola becomes household names synonymous to wealth in Nigeria. The likes of Deinde Fernandez, Harry Akande and MKO Abiola wealth are the type you pray to God to bless you with. This is a man that held ambassadorial positions in many countries around the world, he was a deputy prime minister in a country outside his country of origin, a very highly diplomatic man respected all over the world, we were told he owned a private island, he owned cars that were owned by the royal family, this man defined poshness and classiness of wealth. With reasons best known to him, he didn't do so much on the home front (Nigeria).

There are Infact many kids on naira land. I remember having and reading the ovation magazine that did a complete edition on this man sometime around year-2000. it was wonderful. I read that edition, repeatedly for over 1year.
People here are using his demise to make derogatory statements like "vanity is vanity" or "we all die one day, rich or poor".

I say this to you loud and clearly. The quality of our death differ from one another.

Ndomie-kids, what u have read here in some posts are indeed true. This man was richer than Dangote as at the 90's.

Dangote's wealth skyrocketed from pdp's sit to power.
in fact, I WD tell you that as at early 90's, Davido's father, adeleke was richer than dangote. I was a neighbour to adeleke in the 80's and 90's. Dangote paid frequent visits to adeleke's house in G.R.A, Ikeja.
Adeleke was(still) a billionaire(in dollars) as at that time. Dangote was no where near adeleke.

I also want to add that the only man as colourful and flamboyant as this Fernandez I ever read of is Our great esama of Benin(universe), Gabriel Igbinedion.
He had his limitations in educationally. but that man is gutsy, colourful and extremely stylish.
You can help but love life around that man. Though he has his mischievous side. but you can't help but love&appreciate him.

Last bullet: The good life we leave year is not "vanity". it is "worthful".
