@justwise. Please I need advice. I applied for a student visa in August and was refused based on the following grounds:
1. That I have not provided any explanation why I choose to study again after 7years of finishing my 1st degree.(there was no column or section in application to explain this, which I would have done)
2. I do not yet have a living arrangement in the UK(I was asked but answered the interviewer that I intend to rent a private accommodation very close to school, and would want to inspect accommodation on arrival before payment)
3. That I did not know how much my travel costs will be (I answered interviewer if it was travel cost from Nigeria to UK,he said No but from my intended accommodation to school, and I said I wasn't so sure of the cost)
4. You have not provided any evidence of your personal financial circumstances with your application(i think I made an error in ticking "evidence of funds held by me" in my self assessment form)

I am been sponsored by my State Government and provided all required documents to that effect,i was given all 40points for the PBS and now been refused based in interview questions.

Please how can I tackle these discrepancies, and can I reapply with new evidences? Please advise on how to resolve these issues as I resume in few weeks and would want to reapply using the Priority service option.

Thanks as I await your response on this regards.

I'm going as a student. What airline does that? I tried but they were no flights that gave a return ticket for that long time.

airlines will do one year return tickets...however they usuallt cant book for more than 9 months ahead so book the furthest date they offer and when its close to that date n u have a better idea of when ur wish to return u can then change it..make sure u change it before the return date or u will have to buy another ticket.

I don't think it is your first question that caused the refusal because I also finished in 2008. I believe it was your financial evidence. They might have called the state government and didn't get the right answer from them. I really don't know.

when I travelled in 2013, I packed literally all kinds of food without any issues. No raw meat or the likes. At the border, I was asked for my admission letter , where I would be studying and staying ,and my passport was checked. In terms of prep, all I did was make travel and accommodation arrangement and made sure I had enough cash for my living expenses.
I hope this helps.cheers

You really don't have time left as schools resumes this Sept, you needed to explain that gap in your application using the blank space in the form for additional info.

If you are going as a student you should get a return ticket.
UKBA might cause problems with a one way ticket, but Nigerian airport staff will make your life very hard.

Only tourist are required to travel with a return ticket if you are a student (with a valid resident permit), you do not need to book a return ticket.

if you say so then..it's totally different in abuja as you have to take your certificate the day after you do ur TB test except u approach the doctor and explain/plead
to him that you have visa interview the following day and he will tell you to come by 5pm of the day you carried out ur test..

I applied on the 31st of July and a decision was made on August 10 but the decision and pick up mail was sent to me on the 13th of August. That should be about 7-9days.

Why will the Nigerian airport staff make my life hard? And besides my mom said I should bring groundnut for her, hope that won't be a problem with the immigration officials.

You must have read about the criminals known as Nigerian airport officials!
Also groundnut oil is freely available in the UK no need to carry in and risk it leaking everywhere.

In otherwords students do not need to book return tickets. I pray this is so though.

i think it is because u did not indicate dat AWARD Letter of your state government will be used as proof of funding in your visa application. And u wrote self sponsored. Dat was y u werent given as they thought u wil b sponsoring yourself with no proof. u could av also just told them u are a sponsored student by your state during d interview

Hi everyone, i just got my student visa to study for my masters in sheffiled hallam university. I applied on the 14th of august and submitted on the 18th at ikeja. I did make mistakes on my application, emailed UKVI and asked if i could cancel the application and was told yes but was advised to make the corrections in front of the document officer if they would accept it which they did. I also informed the VO of my errors in the cover letter i sent along with my application. I received an email this morning that a decision had been made and went there without waiting for a collection email and got it!. Although i said i had no intention of working there but was given 20hrs per week. This forum helped me a lot during preparations for submission and i use this opportunity to implore us not to abuse this system and others too so other Nigerians can have a chance to pursue their dreams. You guys rock!

A friend recommended this thread and I have been following it strictly. Am really impressed.
I applied for a tier 4 visa in January and was refused on the grounds of insufficient funds and this was due to fluctuations in exchange rate. embarassed
I got another CAS from my school and reapplied in August. wink
I submitted on the 20th of august at Abuja VAC and got a decision mail today(3rd September). shocked
Sincerely speaking, I have lost appetite since i got the mail. wink
Anyway,am optimistic that am getting visa this time around. grin cheesy wink smiley

wishing all other applicants goodluck smiley grin
#much respect to justwise, spkies and others.
Jahbless.
