My mum applied for a non-immigrant Visa and was at the Lagos office for interview on Monday. She was told the visa was approved and her passport would be sent her in a couple of days.but she got a call from the embassy today inviting her for another interview next week Mon-Wed without specifying the exa ct date and time for the appointment.my question is-do you conduct visa interviews twice?how/where will she get information regarding this new appointment?

Hello barblaze,

She can come in at her convenience on the requested days for a follow-up interview.

Hello VO, Good work you are doing here., please I need your advise. I went to US for a conference which my company sent me. They were responsible for all the expenses. I stated my salary as 3**k. I also run an IT business which gives me an average of what I collect as monthly salary. We are planning a family vacation in US (wife and 3 children)and am the major sponsor. I actually have enough for the trip if we are given. My visa is still running so I don't need to appear. My question is how will my wife convince the VO of my other source of income because it is my monthly salary they will see on the system. I didn't not bother to talk about my other source of income because it was my employer that sponsored me moreover I was not asked any other source of income.

Hi VO,
I applied for b1/b2 visa with my husband in abuja for childbirth purpose but we were denied. I currently want to reapply in lagos this time (i live in lagos), hope applying in a different location will not pose an issue?

Secondly, my father in law is sponsoring the trip although my husband and i have a good account statement. Hope that won't raise eyebrows too. I will be applying alone this time. Thanks

Hello AbujaNIV and LagosNIV,

Please I have a couple of questions, asking for a friend grin

Is it illegal to buy a house(outright) in the US for the purpose of renting it out on a B1/B2 visa? Even though the buyer doesn't intend to live there.

Does doing this make you have strong ties to the US?

Is this a valid reason to apply to visit the US, i.e the person intends to state this as the purpose of visit during the interview.

Also, would you have any problems if you carry about $60,000 in cash? Any documents to travel with ?

Thanks.

Hello Dovent,

Tell her to be honest. Explain the situation as you have here and we'll adjudicate fairly.

Hello sumi48,

You can apply in whichever location is most convenient for you and it shouldn't have any bearing on the outcome. As regards your finances, I can only advise you to be honest and explain the situation during the interview.

Hello blessedfavoured,

Business is an appropriate use of a B1/B2 visa. You cannot carry more than $10,000 into the US without declaring it. For more information on carrying cash into the US, we recommend you turn to Customs and Border Protection: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/list

Dear Visa Officer, I got a mail from the embassy after administrative processing was concluded that i should drop off our international passports on any Monday or Wednesday. does this mean the visa has been approved or what? Also my child passport was 7 month plus before expiration as at when we attended the visa interview, but now the passport is 5 months and some weeks to expire. Should i still drop the passport like that or i should renew it? thank you

Thanks for your efforts and very useful responses on this thread. I have a b1b2 multiple entry visa that will expire in November which I have not been able to use due to (1) primarily work schedule, (2) was to use it last year but couldn't secure a release from my place of work because I had just returned from India where I spent over three months on training.

Now I intend to travel to US, before end of this month and return before the expiration of the Visa. Are there any issues or penalties on unused visa I should be concerned of? Kindly advise

Good morning VO, thank you for the great job you have been doing.
Please I would like to be clear on a particular issue. You have repeatedly mentioned that the documents needed for an interview are just the passport and the confirmation page. How about a case where documents such as bank account statement, letter of invitation are needed and there during the interview one is not with the required documents, what then is to be done?

Dear Vo,

I've been selected to attend social innovator summit after I've been selected as one of 100 promising entrepreneurs who will be attend from over 35 countries from around the world.

The conference/impact accelerator comes up between October 6-9. I'll need a non immigrant visa to attend this conference as specified.I planned paying for visa application fee tomorrow and scheduling an appointment next tomorrow.
Is 3 weeks a reasonable time frame to apply since the conference is between 6 - 9th of October

Kind regards

Hello there,

What's your advice regarding correcting a mistake made in filling the DS 160. While filling the form, California was mistakenly selected instead of New Jersey. The address now reads, Newark, California, instead of Newark, New Jersey.

Kindly note that an appointment has already been scheduled and canceling same appointment is not an option.

Thanks for you advice.

Sure, his fiancée can invite him. He will have to apply like anyone else requesting a B1/B2 visa though - the requirements do not change.

Just keep your appointment and bring both passports with you - we can update that information at the Consulate or Embassy.

If you were told that your visa was approved, and then it went into administrative processing, then the conclusion of administrative processing means that you are approved. Generally we won't ask for you to bring your passport back unless we are putting a visa in it.

I would recommend that you go ahead and renew the passport before getting the visa.

There are no penalties for not using the visa, just be honest about why you were unable to travel if you are asked about this.
