Nigeria COIN -The excitement was paused midway for the decoration of a gallant Major, Muhammed Abu Ali, to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Abu Ali, an officer in the Nigeria Armoured Corps, actively took part in leading most of the recent operations in the most dangerous Boko Haram camps. His colleagues described him as the panacea to Boko Haram when he drives his War Tank (T72). The Army spokesperson, Colonel Sani Usman, described him as “hero of our time”. Lieutenant Colonel. patches689: If you haven't watched this video, you are missing some good quality Armoured P.ORN! The video is like watching the final of the world cup or champions league. Beautiful stuff! All land systems the Russians have are on display, excerpt for the Armata class systems. The T-90C, URAL & KAMAZ trucks,BMPT Terminator, Assault teams, Artillery systems, the Shilka used as an Area Defence weapon, mine clearance T-90 Tanks, GAZ Tigr armed with kornet ATGM, and lots and lots of Fun explosions. |

SOS Can anybody identify this ship Nigerian Navy engineers are building at the Naval Dockyard in Lagos? The only known public vessels currently been built by the Nigerian Navy are, - 40 meters NNS Andoni II MPV ( Naval Dockyard Lagos) - the last Tug-boat of 3 Tugs for the Navy ( Naval Dockyard Port-Harcourt) So what ship is this? It is clearly not a Tugboat, and it is also not an SDB sized vessel. As can be seen from the background, NNS Centenary and NNS Okpobana are currently docked. So, it is Lagos.

Henry120: My best guess I.D. is that it may be a variant of the Suncraft Sea Eagle, NNS Burutu class MPV. Nigeria was supposed to build about 8 units of the Burutu class locally, but the manufacturer Suncraft of Singapore, seemed not eager to transfer technology I think. So deal stalled. Also, some voices say Suncraft has foreign input from more than one country and tech transfer may be complicated.

agaugust: It's a decent guess. There hulls look quite similar. From the 5 Photos i've posted on this vessel, it does seem the Nigerian Navy found a way around the initial stall. The project is in full swing, with this ship at an advanced stage of it's build. Given it's current trajectory, i expect this build would have been completed by December of this year. It must say, it does look larger than your average Sea eagle. |

Henry120: I can't judge size from front view, Sea Eagle is big at 38 m... NNS Burutu side view...

These are the kinds of things i like to see. Local, even better indigenous builds bring me a high level of satisfaction that is un-herald. It annoys me when we buy things like MPVs, MRAPs and Assault Rifles from abroad, when i know we can build them. Look at MRAPs, they are amongst the easiest piece of equipment to manufacture, Nigeria should ordinarily have no business importing them. 1 Like |

Henry120: For an MPV, Sea Eagle at 38.4m is good size, many MPVs are 36m. Anything bigger than 43m is a waste in mid shore patrol role. I expect a cascade of new MPVs for Nigeria due to new need to fight oil theft by barges size of boats. NN already have a confirmed order for 4 missile armed IPV-MPVs 1 Like |

agaugust: My initial guess was the MPV would have been at-least 50meters, although we still cannot tell what particular vessel or it's actual length. As it is usual with my post, especially on indigenisation, it gives me great satisfaction that this vessel is been built right here at home. Nothing comes close. I know early this year, the JTF got 25 boats from local Nigerian suppliers, but all of them were between 10- 15 meters range. We already sent 3 ships to China for some sort of up-grade. In all our strategic medium term goals are on course. |

Henry120:henry thats hard majority of african countries have that ability even the simplest and cheapest MRAPS e.g what most middle east countries are doing using toyota land cruisers chassis but bureaucracy and the higher military echelon which has being surviving on kick backs is what is stopping its implementation |

africaken: Exactly, what the middle-easterners are doing with toyota chassis is just incredible. Especially the Jordanians and Emaratis. The Jordanians have a very nice looking RDRV, the al-thalab, that's what they call it. I was shocked when i saw it, very simple design. Perfect for recon and border patrol. These are builds that African countries, especially Nigeria should have no problem with. Here is the Al-Thalab......... It is such a so simple build, i find it generally annoying.
