LOCATING APARTMENT 4A
Leonard and Sheldon's apartment 4A is one of the most iconic sets on television. The two residents mention that it is located in Pasadena at 2311 Los Robles, across the street from the Colorado Avenue Chevron station. While these streets and places do exist, the actual apartment is no where to be found.


COPYCATS
With the success of "The Big Bang Theory," it is no wonder that others wanted to capitalize on its success. In 2010, a show called "The Theorists" aired in Belarus. Before anyone could figure out what to do, the actors on "The Theorists" quit because they discovered their own producers stole the idea for the show from the American version.

AUDIENCE
Actress Mayim Bialik mentioned in an interview that the school where the major characters work is based on the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). In fact, students and staff of CalTech attend the filmings of most episodes.


MEANING BEHIND THE NAMES
Character names are based on actual people. Howard Wolowitz is someone the creator once worked on computers with. Leonard and Sheldon are named for legendary television producer Sheldon Leonard. Leonard's last name comes from two well-known scientists, Douglas and Robert Hofstadter.

COFFEE TABLE
When actor Wil Wheaton appeared on the show, he snuck away with a picture of one of the most infamous props on the show: the coffee table in Leonard and Sheldon's apartment. He posted the photo on his blog and pointed out that set designers paid close attention to detail when constructing the atmosphere. Magazines, such as Mental Floss, and several snacks, including Red Vines licorice, cover the table's surface.


LUCKY PENNY
Penny is a fan favorite, but her role was almost much different. The original character of "Katie" was to be played by Amanda Walsh, and would have been a much tougher character. When the audience reacted negatively to the character, she was changed, and Kaley Cuoco was recast in the role that we now know as Penny.

HIDDEN INJURIES
The show's leading ladies suffered through some real-life injuries while filming, but producers hid them well from fans. Cuoco, who plays Penny, broke her leg while horseback riding during season four. After missing a few episodes, she performed her scenes while standing behind a counter. After a car accident during season six, Mayim Bialik had to hide an injured right hand during filming.


LASTING SUCCESS
It is rare for a show to receive more than a one year renewal, and "Big Bang Theory," did just that. CBS awarded the show a three season renewal in 2011 which lasted through 2014. Low and behold, producers lauded the show once more with another three year renewal in 2014, guaranteeing the show will run at least ten seasons!

MUSIC ABILITY
The Theremin is regarded as one of the most difficult instruments to play. Interestingly, when Sheldon plays it on the show, it is actually Jim Parsons playing and not a recording.

. While having lunch at the University canteen or other eating scenes, characters don’t actually eat most of the times. Howard only pretends to eat the food by moving his mouth like he is chewing it, Sheldon and Leonard just play with their food with fork.Amy and Penny are sometimes shown eating food actually. They only talk most of the time.

. In one of the episodes when Sheldon moves in with Raj, Raj is watching an Indian movie. The actress of that movie is referred to as ‘Aishvarya Rai’, but it’s actually ‘Amisha Patel’.

. Although Sheldon does not drive, Jim Parsons gets motion sickness from riding in cars, and prefers to drive them.

. The Cheese cake factory doesn’t pay to be in Big Bang Theory.

. Barry Kripke (played by John Ross Bowie) has exactly the same speech impediment as Elmer Fudd – also a Warner Bros. property.

. Bernadette did not originally have such a high pitched voice. When she first appeared, she had a rather normal pitch voice and as her character began to take shape, she adopted the quirky high pitched voice which Melissa Rauch says she based off her mother’s voice “without the Jersey”.

. Amy’s apartment number is 314 obviously is a reference to pi which is usually rounded off to 3.14.
