He should equip himself very well by taking the Masters program, then he'll get many of such opportunities afterwards. He should also know that in the job market there very few jobs at the bottom but so many people scrambling for it while higher up the chain there are more jobs with fewer people struggling for it.

minimum wage in Canada is $11, not 12

Take the Job now. Why? You havent even gotten your visa....shey na only admission you don secure?
Start working, then begin visa waka, if e pure then and only then do you have a choice to make.
Masters in canada does not mean automatic job, I gree. But the land is greener.
Your course of study was not mentioned so I cant assure you of the level of success on your career path in Canada.
But N180K is nothing compared to what you'll earn in Canada.
Quoting the guy who said Naija masters guys in Canada dey clean toilet....minimum wage is $12 per hour. Equals $1920 a month. Equivalent in Naira? Over N300k. Yes tax and all, but even after that, e still plenty pass N180K
In between, I'm in Canada. Did a Post Grad in Software Development. Working now. Any day and anytime, I'll advise the next man to come to Canada

I can't remember your speciality but in Canada you could quickly make 5k/month...

***This means that you could be earning almost the equivalent of N1 million naira / month soon.

This means that what you made in 4 years @ N180k/month in Nigeria...U will be able to make in 1 year....

Of course subsequent years will bring improvement on both scenarios BUT The Cannada Option in 5 years may be equivalent to 20 years sweaty labour and aging in Nigeria....

Your parents can also go over and visit and COOL DOWN after working soon hard to train you.!!

,,,,,....... HOWEVER .... If it is an INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED MNC .... Work for A Year...... BUT DO NOT LOOSE THE ZEAL TO STUDY WHEN U START DATING AND BAKING CHEAP WOMEN IN NIGERIA !!

THIS IS THE BEST "conservative" ADVISE BROTHER!

DarkFive:
Please Take the Masters for two reasons
1. Canada is a lucrative country looking for young professionals, if his smart he would get better offers there too.

2.Even If you take the job 5years , down the line you would start yearning for a masters degree,so now you stil have age on your side.

Go for it!! Don't short change yourself...Take the leap of faith

I think your friend should take the job and go for Masters in a few years. Reason is having a few years of good multinational experience under his belt will make it easier for him to get a job after Masters in Canada or if he returns to Nigerian rather than competing for entry level jobs again.

Also he was able to get admission to Masters now, hence with a few years of good quality experience he will definitely be able to get admission in a few years and probably in a better university.

Minimum wage varies across Canada. It depends on the province.

I used to think like this too before o bro, but look at the economics of the system.

one person can just wake and say oya oya single account for all parastatals without considering the implications.

one person decides to take forever to set up cabinet & implement policies so organisations can understand the direction they are facing.

Mark my words, the above two actions will lead to serious shedding in the months to come.

Ask your friend to run to Canada na person wey never waka dey talk say an him papa farm big pass.

Get the masters, get a good job opportunity in their system. possible citizenship (abi where Nigeria passport wan carry you enter?)

Canada is a country of hardship and Nigeria is a country of honey and gold right?

I don't get all this first class citizen stuff we always talk about. unless you are rich in Nigeria you are not a first class citizen at all.

There are people who make it Nigeria same as there are those who don't, and there are people who make it in Canada etc. same as those who don't.

The environment in Nigeria is suitable for some and isn't for others, same as the environment in Canada or US etc. is suitable for some, and not others e.g. yourself. Do what works for you and let others do what works for them.

pleiades45:
nigerians and masters and yet not one thing is manufactured in the country. you better get rid of your white man or is it black man mentality. i have been to canada and it is a land of hardship and coldness and high tax. you better take that job and remain in nigeria where you are a first class citizen. you have been warned. the other side is never greener. it looks greener but it is not

Take the job first, do 2years and then go for your masters.
Advantages:
1. Gain first level hands-on experience in an organized/Enterprise environment
2. Build a network of friends, from coleagues to superiors to HR, these will prove usefull in the future
3. Since your parents are sponsoring your studies, use the money earned to invest for yourself
4. If you decide to return after your studies, the company will likely consider you with a higher position

Oya, I don talk my own.
