look u can say what you want about Ugbade but Manu Garba has never made a negative comment about Success or Iheanacho. He was the first to say they could play with the national team, he even said Nacho could play at any club in the world. Manu is a coach who likes to have time with his players he even let the world know Iheanacho could be on the bench on his team and nobody saw it fit to meet Manu in a corner and say "oga take time o" so when he goes to New Zealand and does exactly what he already predicted could happen why blame him? Your blame should be forwarded to the NFF. How hard did they try to release a youth player without a work permit? how hard can that be? A simple promise of a National team call up and Iheanacho could have been in Nigeria all last season.
Negative utterrances and refusing to feature a player when it became clear he could change a game in the dying minutes, which one is worse? I did prefer him to introduce Nacho, thereafter, if he insults the guy I don't care. Feature the guy make im enjoy enough playing time like the rest of the other 'ordinary academy' boys he was banking on to do majic. Wetin concern football which has gone more scientific with majic

Alex Iwobi and more mixed signals from Sunday Oliseh

The Arsenal youngster is making the headlines for all the wrong reasons; by calling him up, the Nigeria gaffer has set both himself and the promising forward up for a fall.
By Solace Chukwu
As Sunday Oliseh’s reign at the Super Eagles helm enters its third month, there remains a sense of murkiness to his vision. He talks a good game, and has been typically forthright as to the end, but when it comes to the means, we are no more illuminated than we were on the day of his unveiling.
After that introductory press conference, I wrote of how Oliseh's mixed signals about Nigeriawere likely to land him in a spot of bother further along the path. His populist insistence on players only playing football in top-flight leagues, while celebrated as a break from the norm, displayed a worrying lack of understanding of the state of the nation’s football.
His latest squad earmarked for friendlies features one name, not so much a sore thumb as a poke in the nation’s eye: Alex Iwobi. The Arsenal youngster, only 19, has the distinction of being kin to Jay-Jay Okocha. He also is peculiar in that he is the only player on the list yet to play a minute of senior league football.
Iwobi is, however, highly rated in North London, and for good reason. Able to play anywhere in the band behind the striker, he showed glimpses of his ability in preseason as part of a Gunners side that demolished French giants Lyon at the Emirates Cup.
The obvious question is: is that enough?
The obvious answer is: no.

There is no shortage of talented youngsters who may be the next big thing. If we are being particular, how does one explain leaving Kelechi Iheanacho, infinitely more talented and involved with the Manchester City senior side, out of the squad for last month’s games against Tanzania and Niger? He has since gone on to score his first City goal, and while Oliseh has cited his current injury status as (a part of) the reason for his exclusion this time, it appears the theme of mixed messages will not end anytime soon.
This, coupled with his disdain toward perfectly useful players in lower leagues, make him a magnet for criticism.
Once again, Solomon Kwambe seems incapable of doing any wrong, in spite of his less-than-stellar performances in a Super Eagles shirt. Never mind that, at the time of the squad announcement for the trip to Dar Es Salam, Kwambe had started just one game out of eleven for Warri Wolves. If that is sufficient evidence on which to invite a player to camp, on wonders why a player like Anderson Esiti, impressive on his debut against Chad, has not been involved under the new management.
There exist in the English Championship two right-backs of admirable quality and potential: Dominic Iorfa, son of the local football administrator by the same name, and Moses Odubajo at Hull City, a solid attacking full-back. Oliseh’s snobbish, inflexible rule has shut the door on both, but left it open to a player his predecessor discarded.
By his decisions and omissions, one thing is clear: what is sauce for the goose is not necessarily that for the gander. This is, in itself, not a problem. A coach is not beholden to explain every decision—it is sufficient that his choices justify themselves. However, to wilfully take the high road, like Oliseh is doing, risks the sort of calamitous end from which there can be no redemption. Football is not exact, and cannot be predicted to the fine details, therefore the key to it is often to minimise risk, not plunge in headlong.

Is there any logic in Oliseh's selection process?
It is all well and good to say his intentions are good, and his aims are lofty, but he is not leading the blind. He owes it to a nation to not only be fair, but be seen to be fair; to have a clear process by which his ends can be achieved and his work appraised. By calling up the admittedly talented, but untested youth, Oliseh has unwittingly made him a lightning rod for the growing frustrations of Nigerian football followers—and rightly so. There is no alternate reality in which the U-21s is a more competitive platform than the Premier League.
The honeymoon will soon be at an end, after which it will not suffice to beg for unthinking trust.

Superb article with a lot of strong pointers and fact. However, the quoted section of that article is shocking. Someone is definitely pulling strings for Solomon Kwambe. Oliseh never watched him play more than a game this season (if Oliseh actually watched him play this season) but Kwambe makes his list.

This puts a big hole to the negative criticism Oliseh fired at Coach Keshi.

Solace Chukwu is one of my favourite football writers.

I wanted to comment on Esiti's exclusion, but I kept quiet so they won't say my own is too much. However it's glaring that Oliseh is failing already. He invited two super eagles materials from Portugal Shehu & Obiora. They both dont play.

He's busy chasing Iwobi who doesn't make the bench but the talented Alli who plays regularly for Tottenham is not looked at.

He was always criticizing Keshi for inviting bench warmers, yet he's towing the same line. Super Eagles wan tire me abeg.

It frustrates me a lot when I know it just takes little reasoning and sincere selection to turn Nigeria into a football powerhouse. You see the same cycle repeat itself over and over again.

Let us hope for the best because if we depend on adequate preparation we will continue living in disappointment.

Honestly, Sir Joseph is right and so are you. Solace Chukwu's piece is spot on. I read it myself earlier today and Honestly Solace made a whole lot of sense.

My goodness!!!! Just like u said Sir GoodJoe........................ "Little reasoning and Sincere selection"..... That's most of all that's needed to turn the Super Eagles into a dreaded and Mighty force again.

Sir Joseph1013, please Sir, do speak ur mind and don't hold back. I for one, like u, don't wanna go hard so early on Oliseh. But the truth has to be told and I hope Oliseh responds faster than sound travels (would hv used light but that would be too quick a response don't u think? *smiles*).

We all want what's best for the Eagles and All of Nigerian football.

I'm being soft on Oliseh rite now coz I feel he needs that "breather" for now as he just took the job.

But if he shows no sign of quickly getting things right then I'm afraid The "Solace chukwu" article will be no match for what I'm gonna put down on paper for oliseh to read.

This "snail-like", "I-think-I-know-what-I'm-doing", and "action before thinking" approach must stop!!!!!!

Oliseh! Nigerians are watching.............. And don't get mad if their patience runs out just 6months into ur stay as Super Eagles coach............ YOU KNOW WHAT YOU MUST DO.......... OR DON'T YOU?

I rather he not insult the player cuz football is a game and doesn't mean much in the big scheme of things. Manu Garba's job or any age grade coaches job isn't to win games, it is to improve and expose players. I am starting to believe those boys he played instead of Iheanacho where from Canada because we act like they were not also Nigerian they had the right to be in that match. All this what if is getting old he stuck with his same boys that won the super 6 and ayc are you saying Bulbwa is not capable of something special at the right moment or wasn't that Savior I saw thriving at the U-23 level you can add those 2 to the long list of quality players he has discovered. Yes he did a poor job in New Zealand but should that take away from what he has done and what he is about. Manu has been a great servant to Nigerian football one mistake changes nothing shoot I make at least 100 mistakes a day all that make me and I guess Manu is human.

There is a difference between a mistake and a deliberate decision to make the team not do well.

Manu Garba knew we were going out. He knew he should send in an attacking player to try and keep us in the competition and he clearly refused.

He knew the weather did not favor the players who trained in Nigeria and a summer weather in Germany for the competition. Yet, he refused to play players who have trained and played in winter.

He knew the German weather was a summer weather at that period and he carried our boys to train there for a tournament played in winter.

These are not mistakes. We forgive him because he did a great job raising two great teams we are proud of. The Yemi Tella's U17 triumphing team and the later U17 2013 team. That is why we forgive him. Forgetting is another ball game.

It is glaringly clear that NFF is a business entity run by businessmen at the detriment of over 170 Million Nigerians. The problem with NFF is that, every body there has his own player and want's him or her to play whether the Coach deems fit or not, that was Keshi's problem at a time. I don't think the trend will change with Coach Sunday Oliseh. Why? Because he was put there for that purpose. Remember when he announced that only those playing first team football in top leagues will get his look in? What was the reaction of most stake holders? Hahahahahhahahahaha
The Nigerian football is only designed to fail. Sorry but thats the truth.

How can you make such accusation, Manu was not trying to lose. I am shocked by this because this is months later and people are still bitter. This what have you done for me lately attitude we have is very wrong, people are not machines. If you watched the first game it was obvious that Manu was cold, didn't you se that hideous thing he put on his head during the second half.
Let me ask is Manu a German citizen does he frequently visit there? How does he take the blame for weather issues do u have proof he paid for those tickets? So im guessing i should blame him also for there being no light in my compound. Like i said age grade comps don't count even if we had won we would have been the only ones who cared.

the boy is even injured now, so they couldn't call him up if they wanted to. And like TheSuperNerd said, Iheanacho isn't in danger of being snatched, so whenever the coaches are ready, whether this year or in 2 years, he'll still be available, do you think England would be all over Ibe and Ali if they were fully British? You don't show your ace card until you've acquired those you need, but don't have. You should never rush greatness smiley

Though Alex case is different considering d fact that he hasn't play an competitive game for d english grade teams and also a tactical approach to get him play for our u-23 which may not happen if he isn't capped @ d senior level.
But I expect him to fight more on already established ones like Alli, solanke et al...
By d way what is eminike looking for in that list-he is out of form(a bitter truth) i expected O. MARTINS to make d cut n a replacement for E. Obafemi Martins deserves another call-up to the Super Eagles. The 14-goal hitman can't seem to stop painting the MLS red, pink, purple and black with goals. We could make do with such consistency and experience added to the young super talents coming through-(Oliseh better go after Dele Alli, Dominic Iorfa and Moses Odubajo NOW. And he better prepare Nacho's and Success' invitation letters for the next international breaks after the october friendlies. The likes of Awoniyi, Musa M, Savior G, Yahaya, Ndidi and co can come much later)- in addition to the established stars of the team(mikel, moses, musa, enyeama, omeruo-he's injured rite now but will be back soon- and a few others).

If Martins fails(I doubt he will) then we move on........ We are spoilt for choice in all departments BUT OLISEH MUST KEEP SPREADING HIS DRAGNET AND EXPANDING HIS "EAGLE-EYED" RADAR.......

BREAKING NEWS: OLISEH CALLS UP AMBROSE EFE TO REPLACE INJURED KENNETH OMERUO FOR THE OCTOBER FRIENDLIES. HE'S BEEN CALLED UP NOT AS A RIGHT-BACK BUT AS A CENTRE-BACK/CENTRAL DEFENDER.

Sorry guys but I just can't help but rant. The NFF is the real issue here people can blame the coaches but what surport do they have. If you ask me the NFF is like military rule they need to hand over power to the players. I want to know who votes, the rules should be if you don't have at least 10 caps you can't vote and maybe also credible journalist. Are we saying none of our former players is educated enough to run our football? If so that is sad. See this is why i don't blame Manu Garba because he was the victim of bad planning and leadership. People dare blame Iheanacho for leaving CHAN and going to Man City but the NFF had the power to even stop that deal just like Brasil did with Neymar. So why didn't they? Everyone knows it was Keshi's plan to take him to the world cup so why would the NFF just allow him walk. This new so called improved NFF have even ruined our beloved falcons all of a sudden they can't win a game in Africa. What about those poor U-23 boys, i pray what i saw was wrong but how sad is it if they really had to hand wash their Jerseys. So i ask how much worse would it be with an ex-player incharge?

So much to say I tell you but no need for me to beat a drum that produces the same sound others are already conversant with.

The Nfa, The Nff, The Glass house.......... Names associated with the most disorganized organization/body in The history of the Nigerian State. From my birth till now..... The Nff/Nfa maintains her terror and "chaos" status. I don't wanna go down this lane at all.

It's true we need a revolution in the administrative handling of the beautiful game in Nigeria. So many ideas have been birthed but still little or almost nothing seems to happen. Well, I still believe....... We must get things right and we shall and surely we will.......... I'm still young so definitely I will see that day come. Good people can't be hidden away forever.

Good news

The issue here is the NFF and not Oliseh, Keshi, Manu or any coach. The coach is just an employee and the employee is required to do as his employer says. It's a no-brainer why all the wrong people make the team. Oliseh was talking tough before cuz he wasn't aware of all the rot in the NFF, he thought the coaches were actually solely responsible for picking players. To some extent I don't even blame Manu, cuz the only reason why a coach who had taken a team to win the U-17 WC and the AYC is cuz of instructions. The U-20 WC was a bigger stage, you can take anyone to the U-17 cuz scouts rarely go for kids, but the U-20 is where the scouts are at. NFF wanted their boys to shine, unfortunately things didn't go as planned. Apparently, SUCCESS and IHEANACHO are NOT NFF boys

Why do our football system find it so difficult to breed good midfielders? Its always attackers; we have so many average strikers scattered all over the world, but when it comes to good midfielders, we hardly produce.

Are the other team managers that trained in Australia with Similar weather to New Zealand German Citizens?

If Manu Garba did not mention that he was going to Germany a place with Similar weather to New Zealand, then I will use lack of knowledge as an excuse for him.

But, he used the term Similar weather. That was a lie. If the researched similar weather to New Zealand, Germany would have not been the destination. They researched and chose a totally different weather.

When he arrived there and he noticed an unfamiliar weather, he should have given room for players who have played in winter conditions. Instead he benched them. Please, I am trying to forget but it is not easy.

ANALYSIS: Why Oliseh should shun Ibe, but get Tottenham’s Dele Alli, By Jide Alaka

Dele Alli
The debate in recent times has been the issue of Liverpool’s Jordon Ibe and the chase of other half castes to decide for Nigeria’s Super Eagles. Ibe has since declared that he wants to play for England, thereby rebuffing the invitation to him cby Super Eagles manager, Sunday Oliseh.

This I agree with you. I do not think it was solely a Manu Garba action. It might have been a choice he must make if he wants to continue working with these men. But, there was a deliberate action to hinder that team.

Maybe an NFF member told Manu Germany was a perfect place to prepare the team. When Manu Garba arrived New Zealand he should mame changes.
