Hello Docs, I am on TB drugs, started three weeks ago so I am still infectious.
I just found out that the best way to dispose off my sputum is to put it in a container and boil. The nurse from the DOT center told me it was ok to put in the toilet and flush and that is what I have been doing since I started treatment. I am scared of harming my loved ones, is it safe to just flush the sputum? Or is there any other method of disposal you can share with me? Will greatly appreciate.

nmadu1: re excess saliva: it can be due to some medical conditions, certain foods. If it is to bothersome, do get it checked out, most especially your salivary glands to see if enlarged. Then get general check up and lab work ups.

Royal30: The numbers are normal compared to the normal ranges given. It is hard to say if ovulation has occurred from numbers. At what point in the ovulatory cycle did you obtain the test?

dazzle86: I think you are wanting to know if cyst can affect pregnancy? it is unlikely that the cyclic ovarian cysts would block your tubes to impede pregnancy. What is size of cysts and is it causing you pain or abnormal menstruation? Ovulation is simply when egg is released from ovary into the tubes.

yemixxxxxx: it is best to inquire about this from someone who works locally in your state, in Nigeria as I do not currently reside or work in Nigeria. I believe that you are likely have hormonal dysfunction. What do you mean by detox? If it is just hormonal profile that you are going for, there is no need for anything special like fasting etc.

dotcomnamename: it sounds like a lumbosacral pain, possibly could be herniated disc impinging on nerve especially if there is shooting pain and tingling/numbness in your lower regions. Treatment is simply moderate physical therapy exercises and pain control. Also: good posture. Take short rest, can use massage to relax it, cold/heat pack when actively painful. Also try: short term muscle relaxants--will need prescription from your doctor

Good luck

iamhistreasure: are you male/female? If female, when in your menstrual cycle did you obtain test? It will help with interpreting result.

hapiness44: do you have proper sanitary toilet systems? I means properly waste/disposal system? TB is airborne, meaning you will transmit to others via cough/sputum droplets they are inhaled, not ingested.

So, I would imagine flushing down toilet will not be a source of transmission theoretically--unless someone inhales it. Still though, everyone around you is automatically exposed to you just by being around you really. So, it seems pointless to worry about sputum flushed in the toilet TBH.

Are you actively TB? If so, you need to be in isolation. Or else, everyone needs a TB approved mask. They are at risk--point blank.

Good luck.

Dazzle86:
hello doctor. I had an ultrasound and was told my womb is normal. right ovary normal then cyclic cyst on the left ovary.

I will like to know wether the cyst will prevent ovulation from the left ovary.

Dr the size of the cyst is 31mm. I had some pain on the left side. but it's gone now. this is the first time I am having an ultrasound done and the report shows a cyst. Doctor does it mean I have nothing to worry about?

Thank you so much for your reply. Yes I am active, and I think I have been in 'isolation', also I try to cover my mouth when I cough and sneeze when I am around my parents, I am just trying to be extra careful, but with this, it sounds really impossible, because I still have to take food from the same pot, use the same toilet and bathroom, stay in the same parlor to watch TV with them . Please where will I get the tb approved face mask? Can I still get the normal face mask around? And how will they go about the test? Will it be a sputum test?

Doctors in the house, please I need expert advise of the state of health of my little niece. She is 18 and by march she would be 19.

Sometimes last year, she started having an epileptic attack. Its not a constant attack but it happens to her once in 5 months. This year I have experienced two attacks, first one was around march. She did brain scan and all the necessary check ups. Since then she has been on these drugs 1. Epanutin(fenitoin sodyum). 2. Folic acid.

Not until this morning, it happened to her again while she was bathing to get set for school. Thank God she didn't hit her head on wall tiles. She is stable now but whenever she gets back to normal, she always have amnesia.

My question is, can it be cured?

I pity her coz, we grew up together, she never showed any sign whilst growing up. I just can't fathom what could have caused it, please I need medical explanations and probably solutions..

Thanks..

Hello Doctors,
Thanks for the good work.
My friend was diagnosed of Gonococcal Urethritis, Swab Test result is as below:

Microscopy: Gram - Gram Negative Bacilli+
Epithelial cells +/hpf, WBC 5 -6/hpf
Culture: yielded light growth of Caliform Specie
Sensitivity: Nitrofurantin +++, Ciprofloxacin +++, ofloxacin ++, ceftazidime +, cefuroxine +, Augmentin +
Resistance: Gentamycin, Cefixime.

Urine analysis yielded no growth after incubation
XYZ is negative.

Doctor recommeded the following drugs which lasted for a week: Cyproflaxacin tabs, flagyl tabs, doxycylin tabs, PCM, leonart and Vit C.

The problem is that after one week of using the drugs as prescribed, my friend is still having uncontrollable milky discharge/slight pains when urinating. he went back to hospital and doctor prescribed Nitrofuratoin.
Unfortunately, after a week after taking that, the milky discharge persist although the pains has stopped.

please advise the best treatment

Hello Doctors in the house,
I try as much as possible to get at least 8hrs sleep at night, but the thing is when i wake up in the morning i feel tired and feel the need to still lay in bed. Anyways, i struggle to get up as i have to get to work. After i get back from work mostly around past 5pm, i'm so exhausted that the moment i jump on my bed i sleep for @ least and hour or two. I still go on to sleep say around past 10pm again and the whole cycle repeats. My work doesnt entail any physical stress, more like sitting down behind a pc.
My question is why do i feel tired and not well rested after about 8-9hrs of sleep. Also, i find it hard not to sleep immediately i get back from work.

Thank you

Hello Doctor,
I am 21 years old and on the 13th of this month my menstrual period began and ended after 4days. but to my surprise today the 28th another one started.
Please I hope I am fine and I need your advise.
Thank you.
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by Nobody: 2:53pm On Nov 28, 2015
dazzle86: 31mm is relatively small and should not impede conception. I don't really see cause for concern. Happy TTC

hapiness44: normal face mask isn't really sufficient. Some examples: N95, N99, N100, R95, R99, R100 etc. Google TB mask CDC.gov for more choices. I assume you are still undergoing treatment? Get tested at 8 weeks of treatment and after complete treatment (9months approximately). For resolution of active TB, your chest xray and sputum culture should be negative. Your PPD skin test will always be positive for having being exposed to TB.

cool83: If you are normal healthy person with no genetic immune deficient issues, then immune system can be improved by eating healthy balanced diet, managing or preventing certain medical conditions such as diabetes or HIV. And, also exercise.

cionon: studies show hydrotubation can be beneficial, but there is no guidelines or specifications as to when or when not to get it. I imagine it will be ok at day 26. I am not expert or gyn, so do consult with women's health professional. Happy TTC.

folake25: this is not normal. Are you on contraceptives? or anything thing on your history I should know?
Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by Nobody: 2:57pm On Nov 28, 2015
Floyd45:

You likely have disrupted sleep cycle or sleep disorder. Do you drink caffeine, smoke or any change in lifestyle or work times etc?

I think that staring at computer screen all day can indeed cause sleep problems.

first is to try to maintain a proper sleep hygiene- please google some ideas on this. But, majorly, just make your bedroom conducive to getting good night rest. No looking at screens hours before sleep, no caffeinated beverages, no heavy meals, no reading in bed, sleep on soft but firm mattress.

Are you heavy set in weight? Do you snore? Headaches? Any other medical issues?

I need thorough history (and he needs physical exam) to determine cause of this high blood pressure. It can be loads of things.

So, has he being seen by proper medical professionals or what have they said? Can you list those drugs that he is taking?

His headache, weakness needs to be pursued further. It is hard to say if all these collections of symptoms are linked together or separate entity because I do not have enough information.

Your friend can send me a PM if he so chooses.

She was diagnosed of gonococcal urethritis, but this test result does not show evidence of GC. In fact, this isn't the best test for it. Nevertheless, you can treat empirically for it.

Standard treatment for GC is: ceftriaxon.e 250 mg injection single dose/one time dose. OR Azithromycin 1g orally single dose .

She also needs to be empirically treated for chlamydia: doxycycline 100mg oral twice a day for 7days.

Two other things:

1. White discharge indicates possible candida infection. So, she can consider adding: fluconazole 100mg oral one time or miconazole cream or vaginal suppository.
2. THE SEXUAL partner needs to be treated
3. She needs to refrain from sexual activity until effectively treated.
4. Untreated STD can lead to PID and consequently infertility.

Good luck

Visit a gyn for exam and possibly to be placed on contraceptive to regulate your menses.

You can either wait it out and see what next month cycle is normal or abnormal. IF it happens again, then, time to pay a visit to a gyn doc.

Good luck

This result is remarkable for low progesterone and elevated estradiol. What is the story behind this test? Are you on contraceptive or TTC?

hadura29: epileptic seizures can be due to a number of causes: genetic, congenital, metabolic, brain injury and yet are idiopathic (cause unknown). It can manifest later on in life. There is really no cure especially if it is unprovoked. It is just controlled with medications. Some people can go into remission (typically after 5 years free of seizure). Since she happens to seize even with medications, she will need to be on anti seizure for life. And, she needs to be carefully monitored and observed so she does not hurt herself during seizure. She needs to have neurologist that follows her often. Do you know of any triggers?

dolazee: the contraceptive is suppose to stop ovulation so if no ovulation, no pain. One thing is to be sure that this is benign cysts. So, it only happens during ovulation?

royal30: it is essentially normal study. What's the purpose of this test, I mean why did you obtain one?
