sisiorente:
Hi NIV, Please I have applied for US Visa for about 5 times over a period of 6 years. The last time I went for an interview, a small RED stamp was pasted on my Passport during the Screening. It used to be BLUE at the initial interviews. Please what does that indicate? Does it mean I have been flagged, because I heard people are flagged Red after they have been denied 5 times? And Is it also possible for me to know why I have always been denied. Is there a possibility of getting a VISA if I apply again?

Hello sisoriente,

1) The color is random and doesn't mean anything;
2) We don't discuss specific cases on this forum;
3) If you have been denied five times in six years, I would discourage you from applying until such a time that your circumstances have changed.

Aqva:
Can a male visitor to d US use an opportunity to do a medical checkup or fitness check? There will be no recourse to public funds. The need to do a checkup is an after thought and not the primary aim of travelling.
If it would get one in trouble please kindly advice. Don't want any problems with the Yanks.

Hello Aqva,

You are allowed to seek medical care on a B1/B2 visa. However, you must disclose this intent to do so during your interview.

Hello,

1) Yeah, the possible cause was that you were found to be unqualified for the visa class you were applying to. There are no quick solutions. You must, as a whole, qualify for a visa.
2) You can, but unless something changes, the outcome will be the same.
3) Yes... but as we said, you will likely be refused if you apply so quickly after being told you were unqualified.

What if one falls ill in the course of being in the US? With a 2 year visa it would be impossible to tell when one may need medical care, not everything can be known during the interview. My own opinion.

Hello Vo, I applied and was issued a NIV while studying in the UK in 2014, since then I have visited the US twice from the UK. I have now returned to Nigeria and intend to revisit the US but will need to renew my NIVisa. My question then is; will I be eligible to use the Dropbox since my visa was not issued in Nigeria, or do I have to apply and book an appointment?

Hello Vo,

After filling my form, signing and submitting, I was to click "print application" and also click on "Create family application" but not sure what I pressed but my browser closed.
I opened the page again and the Print application was graded out so couldn't print my application and I didn't see where I could click to create a family application.
Please how do I go about filling the ds 160 form for my wife and kids? Can I fill a new ds 160 form?

Hello Reserved001,

Yep, as long as your U.S. visa has expired in the last 24 months you can renew through dropbox.

Hello zed7,

Of course emergency medical plan is understandable. However, traveling to the US with the intention of seeking medical care, or in such a circumstance where medical care is likely (being several months pregnant, for example), should be relayed during the interview. We are not going to believe you went on "vacation" during your third trimester and there were "complications". This appears to be purposeful deception about purpose of travel. Medical care in the United States is extremely expensive.

Hello VO,
I have explained my situation to you a week or two back. I was rejected under section 214(b). My question now is, march 16,2016 it will be 90 days since my visa application was rejected. It is assumed after 90 days my situation has changed. Are they meaning the information on my previous ds-160 has to change? Even if what was filled in the previous ds-160 happens to be the truth.

Hello VO
Please I want to confirm the process of getting a replacement visa after reporting a passport with valid US visa missing to LagosNIV@state.gov and getting an acknowledgement.
Does one have to pay the visa fee all over again and schedule an interview through the same process or is there any distinction in any way, given this painful loss of an important document with valid visas. The US visa has been used once and still had more than 10 months of validity.
Thanks

It will be a disservice to this forum if i don't give back. Few days to my interview last Dec(2015) i came across this forum when i typed 'likely interview questions' or something like that on google search engine. Since then I've not close d tabcheesy. I refresh almost every day to read new posts. Also i read posts on https://www.nairaland.com/2656320/usa-visit-visa-part-2/23#40900683. Have i gained a lot? oh yes!!. I cant remember the exact page on these forums that i first opened; but something i read changed everything(i think its Justwise or someone else that posted d statement;paraphrasing d end of d comment that all in all it's God's favour and to pray and pray) and i was calm to d day of my interview knowing i could be asked any question and should be prepared. It's my first time of going for a US interview even though i paid visa application fee in 2013 and filled my ds-160, i never submitted(its d same profile that i updated this time). And to not repeat same again, i scheduled an appointment before submitting my application. i've only traveled to one West Africa country cos of my job. Aside that, my pally is almost 'virgin'. I decided to book an hotel against getting invitation letter from relatives or friends. Got all d necessary documents and asked some friends that are more experienced to vet before submitting d application 3 days to my interview. I chose 10am for my interview.

Transcrpt(i will try and remember and write all d questions asked some not in particular order. D interview didn't last more than 2 mins!)
VO; gud morning(male)
Me; Morning(with a smile, but i didnt overdo it and i was a bit nervous it didn't show though)
VO; can u pass ur passport pls(i did with my confirmation& ppoto which he returned. Checked d stamps from my one W/A country trips on my passport)
VO; why do u want to go to d US
Me; i just want to visit there for d first time(i look at him directly; im trained to look at clients directly even when u are nervous)
VO; what do u do
Me; im an ----- consultant
VO; what is blah(i thot he didnt know d corporation since its a US one and im sure he saw d look on my face!! embarassed grin
Me; Its a US org(shocking he wouldnt know right tongue grin)
VO; no i mean what do u use blah for
Me; oooh(and seriously i was relieved but i wasnt expecting a job interview question to be asked while aplying for a Visa!) and then i gave d description of what d application is used for(i already filled this in my ds-160, guess he wanted to confirm if im telling d truth about my job&duty, VO typing and all d while nodding his head while i tell him what i know and do).
VO; U said u are going for 10 days
Me; yes
VO; what are u going for
Me; Vacation and i have my hotel reservation details here(i touched my parcel of documents, he didnt ask to see it)
VO; are u going to see some old friends while there
Me; it will be nice to see them. i will see if that will be possible once i get there(nods and he continues to type. I filled in my 2013 form that i will be staying with a friend, though i didn't submit d form back then and didn't schedule an appointment.)
Vo; are u going with anyone, do u hv kids
Me; no not at this time and no kids yet(said this with a smile, note though im in my late 30s)
VO; are u married
Me; no but im in a civil/domestic union(d name of my partner is on d application form i submitted and he continues to nod)
And then out of the blues(he stopped asking questions for few seconds and concentrated typing/flipping thru something on his system, while i took in my surroundings;was actually smiling at a small child behind that was been naughty as usual grin. Was a bit carried away when he asked his last question which i think was an after thought. Thank God, i calculated fast)
VO;how much do u earn after tax
Me;my salary is paid in blah currency& after tax blah amount (i only stated d basic in my application, i didn't include d expense which is d same as d basic. and its d basic that i mentioned too during d interview. I pay tax on only d basic salary. Expense is meant for my expenses; rent and so on. And if my statement account were to be checked its only d basic and maybe a fraction of my expense that will reflect, i wont be able to account for d rest. While filling d form i used d official exchange rate. I followed d advise i got here to always states what best reflects my position).
VO; (with a smile) ur visa is approved---------------(honestly i did not hear d rest of d statement as he handed me d white paper!!)
None of my documents was checked!!!

Though i couldn't travel last Xmas, didn't get my passport back on time(i got it back after 5 days of AP), had to cancel my plans and maybe will travel before Easter.

Thank you all so much!!! I've gained a lot from u all(always be truthful) cheesy cheesy cheesy
And sorry for my long epistle!!! Hope this will be helpful to others too.

Hello Abuja NIV Team
I was nominated to go for a conference by my employer.
I met the consular officer at the US Embassy Abuja recently on the scheduled date.
She asked why I was going to the US, where I was going and also asked what conference I was going for.
She then picked up a yellow form, ticked a portion of it and told me they will get back to me.
I wanted to show her a letter of identification and sponsorship from my employer but she said it was not necessary.
I thanked her and left.
The part of the form she ticked said my application needed further administrative processing.
I was not bothered until i went to check my status online on ceac.
To my surprise the status has it that they will return my passport when they are through with the administrative processing.

I was surprised because she returned my passport back to me at the interview venue. My passport was not collected. So which passport do they intend to return to me?

Please i need answers

Hello VO,
Alright. I understand your point now. I will retry again and be truthful this time around. If i get it. Fine. If i don't maybe in 2021 if i am alive i will try again for my masters. My first question today is concerning the embassy. When i went for my interview. In front of the consular glass, i saw a telephone there. What is it used for?can one comunicate with the consular officer with it?
Secondly, can i also be a nigerian diplomat with a bachelors degree in International Relations and Diplomacy?
Lastly, please i think the consulate in lagos has to re orientate its nigerian workers who stay at the gates and security check points. They are so rude. The day i had my interview i was provoked by two different staffs who use insultive words on me for no reason.

Best Regards!

LagosNIV:

Employment, family situation, levels of education, travel history... all of these are circumstances which can affect your application. Continuing to apply for the same visa without any real changes in your life will usually result in more refusals.

I would also discourage trying to come in a very short timeframe and lie about changes in your circumstances as this will usually be fairly easy to detect and damages your credibility greatly.

Thanks VO"Abuja/Lagos NIV" for powerful clarification. But sir, without being modest and with all honesty am employed as marketing personnel, married with a baby girl (1year plus) am graduate with certificate in marketing field. With this your point sir, are you saying traveling history must be included before getting visa as regards my own case? Pls help me out with answer....

Thanks.

GoodMorning VO

I am a married man with three kids. My third child is just about one month old. my wife wants to travel to US for summer holiday with my one month old baby. Another reason for her proposed visit is that she wants to spend time with her younger sister in US who is pregnant as now. I am a business man here in Nigeria. My question: Please what are the necessary documents that she needs for visa processing? thank you.

Dear VO,

Good morning and i trust you had a pleasant weekend.

Please i need clarification on this question.

My mom has 2 years US Visa gotten through dropbox after her visa expired.

She intends travelling at the end of February, 2016 to Return April 30th, 2016.

The issue now is that her visa expires March 28th, 2016.

She sent a mail to the embassy and she was informed that she can use the visa to travel and decision on duration is given at the Point of Entry.

Please advise, can she reapply now. Since she is still going at the end of February or just go ahead with the decison she got via the email response.

She doesnt want to have issues when she returns and reapply.

Thank you sir.

Hello ujan,

You will both need to complete the DS160 and pay the associated fees. Tell the officer your birth plans the moment they ask you about your travel plans and be prepared to show your financial documents, all correspondence between you and the doctors, and a budget for your estimated expenses.
