Hello labasckey,

You are welcome to reapply. However, it is advised that you wait until your circumstances have changed some - meaning that your ties are stronger.

Hello VO,

My parents(both retired and not been out of the country before )applied for visa in March based on invite by an uncle who is a citizen both were denied on the premise that they do not have enough ties. This I do not understand because even though they are both retired, their four children(2 still in university) are in Nigeria so I do not understand what stronger ties they want. Also they both have thriving businesses here. Just want them to go there as a retirement treat....we actually stated that the trip is self sponsored.

Now I want them to reapply and first I want to know when they can reapply (their interview was March 16) and what do you think might be the reason for them been denied and what can be done to guide against another denial.

Thank you

Hello ekpotek,

The sooner the better. You can submit your application and passport via Dropbox at any time for a renewal.

Hello yattybanana,

You can select any location you wish. However, we would recommend that you research the 214b law that governs the officer's decisions prior to scheduling another interview.

Hello Gracydee-

Ties are verified in many different ways and although we cannot answer questions about specific cases, the officer may not have been convinced at that time of your parents' ties to Nigeria. They can always apply again.

Hello TenPassfour,

What the officer likely meant was to wait until you're able to show stronger ties to Nigeria. Ties are assessed on many levels and are broad, but the refusal letter you received should tell you more about the ties that the officers are looking for.

I've been a silent follower of this thread for years. It happened to be my third time at the embassy today and I bless God I am here to share a testimony. I got approved for a business visa at the Lagos embassy. I'm attending a conference in FL.

VO: pass me ur passport
VO: where are you going to in the USA
Me: west palm beach, Florida
VO: what's happening there?
Me: I'm attending so so conference holding at so so so......
(VO was checking through my passports' pages probably to see my travel history... I've been out of the country on various occasions)
VO: what do you do for a living
Me: I am the managing director of so so so company and double as the business manager. We are into so so so
After a few minutes of typing into her computer she brought out a white paper and that was it.

Thanks to everyone on this thread and ultimately God who granted me favor.

Dear VO,

Sure you all is well.

Need your help on this, Myself and wifey with our kid were issued B1/B2 visa in October 2015, and we were suppose to travel for vacation in December but father in law died, and we couldn't make our trip again cos Burial was in February due to preparation and all that.

The Visa officer asked if she was pregnant, but she wasn't at all in 2015, but she became pregnant in January 2016 with EDD September 19 2016. We felt she could give birth in America since we have the capacity etc having checked your site and the requirements to give birth etc, I decided to process application for my mum to follow her to help out, and during her interview she informed the VO that she wanted follow her daughter in law to give birth, and she asked for copies of our visas which I have already added to her envelope. At this point, the VO said we lied during our interview, according to her VO kept saying we lied.

The truth is this, wifey wasn't pregnant at all in 2015, she became pregnant in 2016 January, and that is why her EDD is 19 Sept 2016 they wanted to travel at 35weeks(19 August 2016). According to my mum the VO was calculating the period the visa was issued and now, if she was 3months pregnant during the interview, her EDD would have been April 2016, if she was like 2 months pregnant, her EDD would have been May 2016, and if she was 1month Pregnant during the interview in Oct 2015, her EDD would have been June 2016. If the calculation is done, the VO will realised that we didn't lie during our own interview, and I can understand why her application was denied, even though mum didn't lie also as she mentioned why she wanted to go based on the information we gave her.

I just hope that it will not affect our Visas, as it is not our intention to lie at any point. I have told wifey to forget about giving birth in America as I'm more concerned about our integrity and being truthful at all time.

VO, sincerely sorry that I had to bother you with all these, I just want to know the way forward.

I will appreciate your opinion about our situation.

Regards

Dear VO,

My family of 3 have a VISA interview schedule for next week but I am pretty confused. My B1/B2 Visa expired in March, now my wife is pregnant and she intends to deliver in the US, he immediate sister is a registered nurse in Atlanta and she is proposing my wife should come to the US for her delivery. However, in the DS-160 form, the VISA category I filled for myself, wife and son was b1/B2. Now the question is this:

1. Since she didn't chose B1 as her VISA category should we declare our intention of birth in the US to the VO at the interview?
2. Is it possible to cancel the VISA interview, refill a new DS-160 form, chose B1 for her and reschedule another interview for the whole family.
3. Should we go for the interview with the b1/B2 VISA category to either declare her intention to the VO.
4. What are the merit and demerit of the these options.

Your advice is highly valued. Thank you.

Hello JADESOLA15,

Your current visas are still valid and you may travel on them as you wish. Just be sure to tell the agent at the POE exactly what your purpose of travel is. If you plan to have the baby in the U.S. you must provide the agent at the POE with all the documents that demonstrate your ability to pay for the ENTIRE birth (you may not accept any public assistance).

Hello greatqs,

You should definitely declare your intentions for giving birth as soon as the officer asks you why you are going to the U.S. It is NEVER in any applicant's best interest to try and hide their true purpose of travel. People who hide their true purpose of travel from the officers or who lie about their purpose of travel are often turned around at the border by the agent at the POE. Please be completely honest from the start.

Hello pyx,

It is difficult for children to qualify without their parents. However, there are examples of children traveling with very well organized and documented tour trips. The parents will still need to appear with their children and explain the trip and show how their own ties to Nigeria are strong enough to overcome the presumption of immigration.

Thanks for your response. We will act according to your advice but my yet to be answered question is does B1
/B2 visa category qualify for Giving birth?

Because B2 is Medical and Tourism so I'm confused.

Dear VO,

Thanks so much for your swift and apt response.

How do you suggest I go about my Mum's application, can she reapply again? I really want her to stick to the same information that she wants to follow her daughter-in-law to give birth, we are just afraid the VO will say again that we lied about our intentions. We are even ready to if invited to show that we are capable of taking care of all cost that may arise from the trip.

Thanks

Please I applied for my US visa Renewal along with my wife and daughter, via the dropbox at the same time. The USA Embassy returned only the passports of my wife and daughter with US visas after 3 working days. Mine is yet to be returned. What could be the reason for keeping mine?

Thanks for your usual cooperation.
