Why must someone pay money as a way of showing he has accepted an admission, Is it legal or it's another way of extorting students?.
What's your Opinion guys?

mods kindly move it to the right section.

It's all part of their revenue generation.. You dey find customers/students for your school, you found them and instead of giving them gifts for choosing your institution among others, you then ask them to pay you for allowing and accepting them.

Anyway, it has become a tradition and will never stop. But there should be a regulatory body to be monitoring these fees because most institutions arbitrarily impose any amount they feel like at all times without questioning.

It can be stopped by the necessary authorities.

The Ministry of Education, NUC and other relevant bodies should look into this.

One thing About Nigerians is that they will complain that politicians are corrupt but they are also corrupt.

The collection of such fee is improper...

However, when a lie has been around for too long, it begins to seem like the truth..

Now I fear that if the regulatory bodies eventually stamp out the acceptance fee, the Universities will simply make it up in the school fees.

there are lots of illegal dealings in our academic environment.
Acceptance fee is not even that serious, in my school where I graduated from, when paying for sug due, you pay for bank draft also but they issue you only deposit teller without a draft, this is a school having Banking and Finance, Accountancy, Public Admin, Business Admin and Marketing departments, yet they throw such in our face without anyone asking questions, I once talked about it to my colleagues back then in school, I even challenged it during sug election manifesto presentation, but where we have so many people eating from the pot, no one cares if they have right to the meal.
Banks, DSA, Few Sug excos, Council of Heads chairman and some other people that knows the right people share this money at the end.
Sincerely, I will always prefer a hard-core politician than anyone from our Academic or Private(capitalist) environment to be elected into office in our nation. They will use terms to steal us dead.

This same question was addressed to the former Secretary to the Federal Government (Alh. Yayale Ahmed) by a former clerk of the Great Ife Students' Union (Akintujoye Penniela) at the level of Oduduwa Hall in OAU. The Secretary stated categorically that the fee is highly illegal and that there's nothing like acceptance fee in the dictionary of the FG.

Then look for an alternative

You are not the first to pay and you won't be the last

Focus on your books Biko

How much is this money you are talking about? I'm sure it won't cost as much as your phone smh

Grow up boy

You got it all wrong bro,
let's look at a case where the fee is 10k and 15k student where admitted, the school will make a whooping 150million and it will end up in some one's pocket. That's stealing bro.

what do you mean alternative?
we are talking illegal dealings, you are saying thrash. so you think an average Nigerian should be able to pay this fee. If you don't know, most schools now charge 20k upward, you can get a nice smartphone for lesser amount at fairly used. Add school fee to it, add unrefundable(refundable) caution fee to it.
it's either you are a dumbbo or eating from this corrupt act.
