I also really commend El sisi for containing the issue. lybia & Tunisia today are busy fighting ISIL as a result of a war caused by the United States and NATO.
If the United States knew El sisi was going to be the kind of man he his today, they would av not allowed him to be in power.
There is a huge difference between the Egyptian elites/ruling class and their military. Their military is highly experienced, and very disciplined. They came in when their country needed them the most and they are doing a great job. But the truth is US/Israel will never stop trying to bring Egypt down. Israel wants to be the one and only of the Middle East but that can never be possible.

Same way Egypt will never stop to see the downfall of Israel. Israel is a threat to their existence than the americans. Egypt is not just arming-up because of "perceived" foe(s) in africa, they are doing that because of intercontinental foe(s). The stationing of Antey 2500, Helicopter carriers, f16s and host of others are there to deter the "powers that be". I think El-sisi is someone that knows what he want and knows how to handle foreign posturing--diplomatically, military-wise.
It's even a shame that a "supposed" largest economy in africa can't up her ante in Defense Budget. I dont just get the "dwarf and pigmy" intellect we carry about in our own security and defense of the country and economy. Rubbish!

Egypt got $25billion loan from Russia and spent all of it on Russian military hardwares and softwares. $2.1billion was allocated to tackle Book Haram in Nigeria and the same people that budgeted that money were the same people that stole it. The Nigerian Air force sends officers on mission with Alpha Jets (flying coffins). The new terrorist groups in the Niger Delta have threatened to down those useless jets (meaning, those boys have MANPADs). I am sorry but I do not believe the Nigerian Air force can withstand an enemy with MANPAD. The country's military is a joke.

Joke is an understatement. Frankly, to be honest, Nigeria has no AirForce. The men and officers only make up the FORCE, THE AIR is not there. Without Air, the Force becomes dead.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE MOVES TO REINFORCE BASE DEFENCE AND PROTECTION OF CRITICAL ASSETS

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as part of efforts towards coping with the dynamism of emerging security threats, is adopting a new concept of base defence to protect its air assets and critical installations. Aside reorganising, retraining and re-equipping the Regiment Specialty to effectively defend NAF Bases against attacks, the Service has also employed the use of Closed Circuit Camera to provide surveillance around perimeter fences of NAF Bases while monitoring the entire Base from the Base Defence Coordination Centre. Under the new concept, effort is geared towards expanding the Regiment Specialty to be able to take over all ground defence duties with a view to securing NAF Bases and critical assets. The recent acquisition of 10 specialised Honker Scorpion Vehicles is in furtherance of this objective by providing guards with the capacity to respond quickly to security breaches. The vehicles possess armoured capability thus offering additional level of protection to guards.
Speaking during Commissioning ceremony, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Abayomi Olonisakin stated that the induction of the Honker vehicles will enhance the capability of NAF Regiment personnel to effectively contribute to the collective efforts at addressing the security challenges facing the nation, adding that “the procurement was a testimony of the importance the NAF attached to the protection of its critical assets and personnel”.
Meanwhile, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar has reiterated that the nation, and NAF in particular, cannot afford to lose its critical assets to the activities of insurgents, terrorists and militants. Air Mshl Abubakar stated that the NAF is therefore committed to adopt all necessary security measures to forestall occurrence of past mistakes. The CAS added that the deployment of the Honker vehicles is intended to significantly enhance the NAF Base Defence System as well as security of key and vulnerable points around the nation including the airports. Another major advantage of the Honker vehicles is that it helps to eliminate the system hitherto in place where guards were made stationary at their guard posts.

Dont mind those NLders celebrating mediocrity. See a situation where there's security breach at the base, is it Honkers and cctv that will defend the critical assets inside the base(s)? I was saying on the other thread that i was hoping to read something in the likes of antey 2500, pantsir and radar and someone is telling me we dont WANT that. That kinda "dwarf" intellect is what is keeping Nigeria back from her glory. Why dont you buy food everything you are hungry, why are you stockpiling Foodstuff in the store room? Are you not buying and stockpiling because of your WANT and not because of your NEED?
Two pantsir(or its equivalent) a base will give those "assets" better protection than those honkers. My Opinion Though.

Your last statement is totally out of point, 2 panstir or its equivalent will protect assets on the airbase. My question to you is are you protecting assets from being invaded through "Air space" or through "ground honkers". The panstir was specifically designed as a short range air defence system. They are very weak or has limited capabilities against ground targets....!!!!!!!

And has we speak today there decent types and class of CCTV, I hope u don't av the impression of those CCTV u all ways see around. And even inr developed countries there military base make good use of CCTV, only it's sad that such airforce base is just having such installation.

Defending our airforce base and it's assets, the panstir air defence system is out of the point. What we need are Tactical Radars for Ground Surveillance/ground surveillance radar installations @ every airbase.

There is no SENSE or NONSENSE arguementmmmm

But my bone of contention his in one of ur statement ; "Two pantsir(or its equivalent) a base will give those "assets" better protection than those honkers. My Opinion Though."..........

Which I av clarified that the panstir is not what we need to defend our airbase and assets, that's 100% mis appropration of assets .

http://www.military-today.com/missiles/pantsyr.htm. These may shed light on the panstir spec.

Alleged N8.5b Fraud: EFCC Arraigns Serving Army General, Akpobolokemi, Others........

A former Commander of the Military Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta codenamed Operation Pulo Shield and current Chief of Logistics, Defence Headquarters, Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Atewe, has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on an 11-count charge bordering on conspiracy, abuse of office and money laundering to the tune of N8.5billion.
The former JTF Commander was arraigned before Justice Saliu Saidu of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos alongside the immediate past Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi.
Also arraigned along with the former NIMASA boss and Atewe were Kime Engozu and Josephine Otuga.
‎This is the sixth time the EFCC would file different charges against Akpobolokemi for alleged fraud perpetrated during his time as head of NIMASA.
According to the prosecution, NIMASA, under the disgraced former DG, approved billions of naira to several military personnel, who were purportedly engaged to patrol the creeks to prevent pipeline vandalism and illegal bunkering.
The funds, it said, ended in private accounts through fraudulent means.
The EFCC said the defendants conspired among themselves to defraud NIMASA of N8.5billion using six companies – Jagan Limited, Jagan Trading Company Limited, Jagan Global Services Limited, Al-Nald Limited, Paper Warehouse Limited, Eastpoint Integrated Services Limited and De-Newlink Integrated Services Limited.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court that he was ready for trial with his witnesses and pleaded for accelerated hearing.
Counsel to the first accused, Mathew Bukar, however, prayed the court to grant his client (Mr. Akpobolokemi) bail, as he had earlier been granted bail by judges in the other cases where he is currently standing trial.
Counsel to the third and fourth accused, U.B.E Innaji also urged the court to exercise its discretion to grant bail in the favour of his clients.
However, the court rejected Mike Ozekhome, counsel to the second accused’s (General Atewe) prayer to grant his client bail on self-recognition.
After considering the bail applications, Justice Saidu granted bail to Akpobokelemi on the terms earlier given by courts where he is currently standing trial on corruption charges.
The second, third and fourth accused were also granted bail in the sum of N100 million each, two sureties, one of whom must be a senior civil servant of the rank of Deputy Director.
The other must be a relative who must have a property in Victoria Island, Ikoyi, or Lekki areas of Lagos.
The judge remanded the accused persons pending when they perfect the terms of their bail.
He, thereafter adjourned the case to June 24, 2016 for commencement of trial.

Military upgrades Nigerian Army 20 Battalion to special unit

Nigerian Army 20 Battalion in Serti, Taraba, has been upgraded to a special unit for military regimentation and training in response to heightened security situation along the Nigeria-Cameroon border and the imperative of entrenching professionalism in the military.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt,-Gen.Tukur Buratai, announced the upgrade on Friday  while fielding  questions from newsmen during his visit to the headquarters of the battalion in Gashaka Local Government Area of the state.

According to him,  Army headquarters would provide the required logistics and post more officers and soldiers to improve the status of the unit.

“This battalion is a unique one in a unique location, so we will make efforts to ensure that this status is maintained.

“We are making it a model battalion where we have full compliments of a unit at all times that will be well drilled in regimentation.

“We will immediately address the accommodation needs of personnel in this unit and more troops will be posted to this unit.

“Henceforth, young officers that pass out from the Defence Academy will be moved to this unit for regimentation training,” he said.

Buratai said the Army was leveraging on the near perfect terrain in Serti, which, according to him, is conducive for training and the building of the soldiers’ regimentation.

He said the authorities were working on reviving old practices that entrenched discipline and professionalism in the military.

“This is a very good ground for young officers in regimentation which will make them real professionals and that is what we are striving to achieve.

“We want to return to the practice where young officers and soldiers build a strong background in regimentation.”

Earlier at the Emir of Gashaka’s palace, Buratai solicited the support of the public to enable the Army secure the area.

He urged the community to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities as more terrorists escape from their Sambisa enclaves.

On his part, the Emir of Gashaka, Alhaji Mohammed Sambo, commended the effort of the military in securing the community.

He said that the people of the community and soldiers at the 20 Battalion barracks enjoyed cordial relationship.

Sambo assured the Army chief of more cooperation and support of the community.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Buratai is the second Army chief to visit the unit after retired Lt, – Gen. Martin-Luther Agwai in 2001.
