Create job for yourself with the knowledge you've acquired

You are quite right bro. I learnt that Goggle in conjuction with some IT Tech firms are training IT savvy people on app development and other IT stuff with the possibility of assisting them with startup funds later on. Maybe Abimbola can fit into this program.

Upon his first class and oyibo degree, the mofo could not analyse that getting married and having children without a solid source of income is the worst scenario he could put himself. For that alone I will not employ the garage tout. He has failed to apply what he has learnt.

Very pathetic. If you don't have political godfather, omoh your own case na when God remember you if hunger never kill you by then. A third class graduate with godfather worth more than a first class graduate. This is because we place nepotism above merit.

Your post is misleading and unacceptable. Getting job has nothing to do with grades, in fact most of the brains in my class are teachers while the unfortunate less knowledgeable are in control of managers sits. Having a degree is not enough to landed a dream jobs, graduates should endeavour to get a viable skills. To my surprise I have an Harvard graduate that's looking for job.

Things are really bad at the moment in the country. He is not the only one in this predicament.

My advice is for him to start his own firm. Bad as it is business intelligence analysis is a lucrative trade now. The twist is that most organizations would rather outsource this part of their business to firms like PwC, KPMG and Delloite however I still believe that he can package himself, register a small coy and make presentations for business leads to mid tier coys in Lagos.

I mean just from the top of my head I can say that there is a dearth of information around SMES in Nigeria and helping finance institutions gather reliable data in this space for strategy and business planning is hot cake in Nigeria. Telcos, cards and mobile payment coys routinenly need info on consumer patterns to drive thier sales, marketing and product penetration and B.I is the right tool for this so without fear or doubt there are opportunities in this field of expertise.

He can also be doing business plans for small businesses that want to access funds. There are a lot of opportunities out there despite the economic downturn.

The poster can inbox me the contact details of the person for discussions on way forward.

On a lighter note, why rush into marriage with two kids when source of livelyhood is not constant. Thirty years in my own opinion is still an OK age for a single guy in this country

P.S. I am not asking the poster for details to give the guy a job, I just want to be able to push some fresh ideas towrds his way on the vast opportunities in the B.I space.

This is mental laziness jare, you have a first class, yet you cannot create a small scale job abi? You wasted your years in school...now I know why Brymo gave that epic advise...brah, start a small business while you wait for something 'big'. Please, don't rant about capital, you must have saved up something little from your 20 hours a week job ( we all did it, no be only you school abroad).

You missed the point, he doesn't need his first class to create a small scale job, in fact,
he does not need a degree.
While I agree that he needs to move on, it will be more difficult for him
since he was apparently more committed to his studies and has a high expectation of life.
Nothing is more painful than a shattered dream.
I just hope he has someone to tell him the basic truth.

Lastly, it is time for our society to change the mentality of "deserving a job after school" and
we should start encouraging more entrepreneurs, we don't need more graduates , we need
more skilled people because getting a degree for the purpose of securing a job is more of a
gamble these days.

If those with good grades can't secure jobs in Nigeria, what hope do graduates with average grades have? Read below the shocking and touching plight of a First Class graduate of the of the University of Greenwich, London, UK -who had to work in a motor park to hustle for cash....

This was shared by Abdullahi A Abdullahi on Facebook on June 1, 2016;

I have been feeling sore since yesterday following a heart-breaking scene I witnessed at the popular Area 1 Park. Struggling to stop rains of punches on his face was a young guy in his 30s. He was being mercilessly mobbed by two other guys who were cursing, using all sorts of obscenities.

I don't want moved me sha, but I had to alight from my car in rescue of this guy. I managed to stop the guys from their vicious dexterities on this guy but not without getting a slight scratch on my left ear.

In between shoving, I managed to push this guy into my car as I drove away to a distant into safety. I could hear the guys shouting after us, threatening to end his life if he dares return to join them. Distant away to safety, I asked the visibly shaken guy what the problem was and thus went into a heart shattering narrative that left me perpetually sore.

"My brother, what you just witnessed was one of the trials of life oh. Sitting with you here is a first class graduate of the University of Greenwich, London, UK. (September, 2011 – July, 2014)

BSc (Hons.) Business Information Systems. I am jobless and stranded. I came into Abuja yesterday for an interview; I finished the interview and ran out of cash. Because I didn't want to be seen as a beggar, I decided to join this guys calling for passengers. In three hours, I made N800. So I decided to gather at least N2000 that can take me back to Lagos. That was when these guys pounced on me, demanding that I register as a union member with N5000. I told them my predicament but they insisted of taking my phone."

"My name is Abimbola Kareem, married with two kids from Lagos state. Im not just a first class product oh but a proficient person. I am highly dedicated Business Systems Analyst with working knowledge of Business Intelligence, Web and Information Systems development and general products marketing. My understanding of system analysis got me the scholarship from the NNPC to study abroad. My brother, I came back and still can't get a job oh."

He saw the tears in my eyes and he too joined in the cry. It was an emotional time for me. In my car is a total stranger pouring out his heart to me. I stopped my tears and decided to give him hope. I could see hunger in him but he swore he wasn't hungry. With the little stipends on me, I drove him to Jabi Park and he boarded a vehicle going to Lagos. We exchanged numbers and I left him more shattered.

This morning, He called me to show his appreciation and his wife also prayed for me. I asked that he send his CV, which he eventually sent this evening. As I type this, I have his very rich CV with me. I don't know where to take it to but I have this strong feeling that if I share this story here, someone somewhere may help somehow. We can't afford to waste such a product. Share this story as far as possible until someone employs Abimbola.

sad Sad story. But when will you learn? Even those who have jobs are losing it, being retrenched almost everyday. And yet people are still coming with BIG degrees feeling as if the society OWES THEM a job just because you have a big degree. With his field of expertise and professional training, there's a lot he could do for himself with it. But they'll never learn. Many are still going out to get BIGGER AND BIGGER degrees and then come back DEMANDING a job!

When are you going to get it into your head, WHAT WE NEED NOW ARE SKILLS AND ENTREPRENEURS, People who CREATE JOBS not people who are looking for jobs. We don't need BIG DEGREES anymore. We need BIG SKILLS and JOB CREATORS

I totally agree wit u bro.. It's high time we change our orientation 2wards Job creation instead of Job search...

He claimed he was given a scholarship by NNPC to study in the U.K.

Why didn't NNPC employ him?
Why didn't he get a job in the U.K. where he studied?
Why is he having problems getting a job in Nigeria?
How could he be stranded and out of cash? Is he not smart enough to plan his journey.

I've never seen or heard that a First Class graduate had problem getting a job. There's absolutely something wrong!

He either does drug or has a mental issue or sucks at job interview.

With the way things are right now in the country, its not by first class again o. Thats sad though because if someone goes to school and does not do well, they will talk. Now, look at someone that had first class o. What mentality do we expect those little kids out there to grow up with? That let me just go to school and manage to graduate? May God help us.

I just want to thank NNABROSS for speaking my mind. Formal education and it's degrees has turned out youths and this country upside down. Every one is now dependent on the few who had the guts to be an employer of labor rather than an employee. The number of unemployed graduates are now so much that employers have taken great advantage and shows no respect anymore. First your ability was d only criteria. Later it became about first degree, it graduated to having second degree, then unimaginable years of work experience, now the trend is AGE before you can get a good job, and yet our youths are still craving to enter into higher institutions. That seems to be the only way out in this country. Our curriculums are outdated and not entrepreneur oriented. Salaries fall everyday in the private sector but you dare not resign cos even before walk out the door someone is ready to replace you and is grateful for that amount. Now coppers are so much that this failed government can no longer handle to the extent that service is now put on hold for the very first time. Even places to serve temporarily are scarce. Imagine all the money spent in the university or college of education if it was poured on a learnt trade, by now, for those 4,5, or six years spent in school, you would be a guru and employer of labor by now. May God grant the upcoming generation wisdom

Change your mentality my dear. Who owns the company where he's to work? Who's resigning his or her space for him to occupy? Things haven't started getting worse if we continue to make tertiary education our utmost priority!

All these Yoruba people are always looking for who will help them. Always begging for help. That's because they lack proper network and the wicked nature of their people. An Igbo guy with a first class degree from the UK will get a job, even if it's with one importer at Alaba-Lagos ,Aba, Enugu or Abuja. This is because the trader will like to brag about having a first class degree holder working for him. He may not earn much, but it will be a good start. It's still better than doing 'Agbero' at the motor park.

Networking is the key and Igbos can network very well within themselves.

Why did NNPC that offered him the scholarship not offer him a job or provide employment?
Thereby directly and indirectly benefitting from their investment, plus the society gaining and him employing other people?
Too many questions and no answers!!!!!

Create Job, create job and create job. How is he going to create the job? A hungry man that can't afford just N2,000 to pay transport back to his base.

No be person wey don eat dey remember to give hungry person.

He can create job... Out mentality of searching for white color job has blinded is to opportunities around and people fail to see that these jobs are not enough to go round.

I was a first class civil engineering graduate and I created a small job with a friend through the help of nairaland immediately after my NYSC, now we have more than 10 people working with us directly or indirectly.

Bigger degree should mean bigger brain processing power and ability to see opportunities that average people can't see. First class graduate from a British school should have what it takes to compete and create opportunities for less fortunate Nigerians

Must everything be about ethnicity? I agree with you that igbos have more network because of their entrepreneurship culture, I was in the east and was baffled by the high level of development in the informal economy. State like anambra have so many traders and small scale business holder than the whole of North central and one can see how much less dependant they are to federal government or white collar job.

Lack of adequate skill is one of the major problem and reasons for massive unemployment in Nigeria. Modern day educational system train people that can work but not those that can create job
