That is still way less than half of what these doctors were earning before coming to camp. Like you said, there are many in this country earning way more than doctors so instead of berating them, why not set the bar higher for yourself?

Lolz it isn't low esteem. I am proud of what I do at this very level. I am high. If not for nysc I would be working and going about my masters now. I aim for something high but you've got to strt smwer abi.

Lol. Sorry I said that anyway. In my own opinion the only set of people enjoying in this country are probably the politicians and successful business owners. All others, including the doctors, are earning way below what they should be getting at every level. So I feel we should attack the situation instead of ourselves...

When you're fast asleep, they're busy somewhere saving lives. When you're off for leisure, they sacrifice their leisure and family time so that no lives are lost. And they work round the clock just to make medical services available to you. Not to mention the rigorous years of training they underwent back in school.

There are many reasons to that, 1. Coper Doctors are workers, in some places they head a clinic that manage d health of a full community. Being honest doctors are under valued in Nigeria. Also note that during internship a doctor is paid over over 5 times what nysc pays. Doctors are the real people giving full service during service because they can easily run a PP and earn good cash

Am a nurse/midwife..I undertook more than 50 deliveries within 3months in my nysc..
I worked more than any corper doctor in my hospital ppa but received little while corper doctors earn the money 95k+
I think there is injustice/discrepancy in nigerian scheme of service..this is exactly what is going on now in nigerian hospitals..if you are nt a doctor you are nothing..it's nt like that abroad..
Even if doctors spend 10yrs in university they are serving nigeria and everybody serving nigeria should receive the same pay

Nice point. But how can we attack when we are jubilating over the hype of one side over the other? That's why I said we need change our mindset. The govenor who increased the salary isn't a doctor. Now we the populace need to rise and say no. But will the doctor corpers who are beneficiaries join? No, bcoz they blv its in their favour. I thank God for them o. As humans dey rejoice but such acts only kill our society in the long run. Nice point once again.

Engineers when dem dey send go rural primary schools go teach elementary science na you wan use compare doctors when dey hospitals to save lives... And are exposed to all manner of viral diseases? When I served, I was always complaining about the difference in the money paid.. But after some thinking, I had to understand that these guys are putting their lives in the line just like other doctors out there... In fact the money is relatively too small... Don't ever compare a doctor to an engineer in the Nigerian setting.. Most of these engineers graduated without knowing what a screw driver is in the real world

Medical Doctor corpers are paid higher in service because they are meant to safe life think of my surgery practical they had to work on. Moreover, they are always busy with their career of the time.

Listen,u cannot pay a corp doc 150k,nd pay an engineer 5k under the same system created for unification,equality and exposure... What msg r u passing to every other area of specialization?? Fyi,we build basically gadgets and devices meant to AID the work of yol docs much better.. @chiefmidwife. I suppose you took shifts while the doctor told the whole day while on call. I also suppose that prior to taking all those deliveries, the doctor had clerked and examined the patients as well as others you didn't have to take their deliveries. Again, if there were any complications, the doctor took charge. I recognise the enormity of work that health workers in general do but some are so myopic that they never look beyond their space to see what others are doing. Every health worker does a lot and should be paid well but none does more or takes more responsibility than the doctor.

Funny.. Actually they get a whole lot more in multiples even. But then the fact remains that they are much more readily absorbed into the system as they are ready jobs as relative to others from other discipline but people from other discipline have a high sometimes higher earning potential than health workers it usually just takes a while..

Yeah you're very correct, other professions have higher earning potential in the long run e.g Accountants, engineers even bankers.

I don't get,how is it 1/20?yours is 6yrs while hers is 5yrs,A year difference doesn't make it one-twentieth of it nah.I totally agree with the fact it's kind of inferior to medicine,but that difference in relativity is just too much.

its funny how you guys reason..on average doctors spend 7+years in school plus 1 year intership then service and are exposed to various hazards eg lassa fever ,Ebola and They are still expected to treat ...A corp member died in kaduna because of this same lassa fever.would you willing risk your life for 19,800?
Besides most doctors earn close to 200k before service so going for service to collect 50k is a serious sacrifice..its never too late to go back to school if it affects you 2 much

pharmacists, Nurses, med lab scientists all work when Drs are working. These medical professionals also spend 6years in university: internship included.
